mdrs
So, today I eat crow. As a slight aside, I've often uttered my opinion that PRS axes are some of the best, but to me sound tone neutral. Well, it turns out that at least in this instance, I WAS HAPPILLY WRONG!! LMAO!! A good friend sent me these links late last night, and entitled the e mail "GREAT TONE". Eliot is a GREAT guitarist himself (actually Eliot sounds very much like David Grissom....no kidding, Eliot rocks!!). So, you MUST take a look and listen to David Grissom. The finest tone I've ever heard out of a PRS This guy can flat out play. And, serious tone to die for. Check it out, and have a great Sunday. Here's some info about David; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Grissom Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. mdrs
David's got a great web site, with excellent photos of a pretty decent group of guitars he's got, and a pic of his pedal board, and what gear he uses. http://www.davidgrissom.com/home/ Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Dr. Ellwood
Thats why I like my McCarty's, with the Klon, I get that body/amp artifact trail on the end of notes if I use the front pick up http://www.thestringnetwork.com
Gifthorse
I'm pretty sure Dave Grisham uses Dr. Z amps. Whatever the Marshall type Dr. Z is. I think he is awesome. Nice feel. http://flagshipmile.dmusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/gifthorse
Rampdog
WOOF!!! If I didn't look I'd peg it as a Gibby with some tight Buckers on it... If it ain't fun...why do it...? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=778394&content=music
mdrs
Eliot, who sent me these vids, has been trying to get me to buy a Dr. Z for a while. I've played thru one, and it was a wonderful amp. Since I don't play out, however, I TRY to only buy old amps. If I was playing out, the Dr. Z would be very high on my list. I played a custom shop thinline Tele thru it what I THINK was a MAZ-18 combo...??2x10?? or a 1x12. It was totally fat and sweet. http://www.drzamps.com/maz18.html Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Jarv
David Grissom is without doubt my favourite guitarist of all time, never a wasted note. If you haven't got the Storyville albums I can't recommend them enough. Check out these older videos of Grissom showing what you can play over a simple backing:
Greg B.
Grissom has tone for days. I need to check out more of his stuff. Avoid playing the amplifier at a volume setting high enough to produce a distorted sound through the speaker-Fender Guitar Course-1966
Zuben
I met him when he was playing with Joe Ely. Nice guy and very personable. Most of Ely's band members are laid back like Joe is. If you get a chance, Check out both of them Joe, the last time I ran into him, was playing with the Flatlanders. (maybe 2 years ago) I have done some session work for New West records back when Joe had reincarnated the Flatlanders. New West has some preety good talent playing on their label.
