  1. I'll have to check tomorrow, the batteries in my tester have crapped out. I take it that whatever reading there is, is what I should set the switch to? I think that it was set on 8 ohms, but my 6 year old might have switched it.
  2. Myles, I recently got a Carvin Valvemaster (Series II) 2x12 combo. It is in great shape and sounds amazing. It says that the 2 speaker jacks are parallel. One is for the internal speakers and one for running a separate cabinet. I don't plan on using a cabinet with it, so what should I set the switch to for the internal speakers? BTW, the speakers are 8 ohm Celestions. The positive wire goes from the jack to one speaker, then another wire to the other speaker. Same with the negative wire.
  3. I personally have found that alot of VH songs are fairly easy to play, but extremely hard to make it sound right. His phrasing is what is hard for me to nail. I think that it goes back to that "in the fingers" thing with Eddie. But having said all of that, yes, I think that "You Really Got Me" would be about the easiest to play. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" is another that is a little easier also. Good luck CD!
  4. It will all boil down to personal taste but the Duncan amps can have reliability issues and the modules on the convertible are hard to find .... Westwood Music in West L.A. was the only place I ever saw any and that was years ago. Throwing my two-cents in here, of two people I've talked to in person over the years who had used those SD Convertible amps, both used them in gigging cover bands and BOTH cited reliability issues, and then some. Thank you both, Myles & Cav.
  5. Myles, I'm back on the road again to getting another amp. The '94 Fender Concert that I got on ebay was damaged and they are going to refund me, so here I go again. I am going to get used, cause I can get more amp for the $$. I am looking at the Yamaha T50C (Soldano designed), the Seymour Duncan Convertible (60 or 100 watt, either one), and the Carvin X30 or X60. I have played each one, so sonically, I know what I am getting. Do you have any thoughts on any of these, good, bad, or indifferent? Reliability, potential problems, things to look out for, etc. Thanks and have a great holiday.
  6. Myles, I just bought a 1994 Fender Concert (the Pro Tube Series one) without the footswitch. The stock switch has 3 switches on it, channel/gain(boost)/reverb. Can I use a Peavey switch with only 2 switches to at least switch channels?
  7. One more thing...What do you think about the Weber MASS attenuators and the Weber Load Dumps. I am considering one or the other to run with my Valve Jr. head. I'm not hell bent on an attenuator cause I know that its not really that loud of an amp, but it would be nice to quiet down my 410 cab and be able to play the amp wide open when the wife and son are in the other room. Thanks again. Greg.
  8. I want to build or buy a 10" or 12" speaker cab for my new Epi Valve Jr. head. How can you determine the ohms of a speaker if it doesn't say on it? And what are your thoughts on getting a broken combo and gutting the electronics and using just the speaker as an extention cab? I'm thinking about this as a lightweight alternative and alot easier than building. I have a Peavey Classic 410E cab that sounds great with the head, but it is not very portable and extremely loud. Thanks for you help.
