Derrick1642607670
Reading the Deleo article about using unique chords I realise I can't do much more than major, minor, 7th, and 5th chords. Does anyone have a place on the web they reccomend for learning?
BillWelcome Home Studios
Trucks turned me o to this one.. http://www.guitarzone.com/gcodex/gcodex.html But I learned most of my chords by watching other people. Derrick1642607670
Ehh new question how does one "listen" to a chord and figure it out? I have a video of someone playing, not close up, and I just cannot get this chord, so I resorted to using the recordings of random chords and I still have no luck any help? Thanks
A String
Ehh new question how does one "listen" to a chord and figure it out? I have a video of someone playing, not close up, and I just cannot get this chord, so I resorted to using the recordings of random chords and I still have no luck any help? Thanks Well, first I listen to the lowest note in the chord to help me find the base. Then, I add the "flavour". You will learn to recognize major, minor, seventh, ninth etc. all by ear. For the complicated ones, you just strum the chord that is your best guess, then adjust the notes until they match. You can also deduct which chord is being used by following along with the inversions that have been played previous. This can often be an indicator as to the current chord. A String
Hmmm....well...It's a d#Maj7 with a suspended 2nd and a fifth in the bass. I'm not as good at this as some of the guys here, so you will want to definitely check this with them, but I would write it:a#/d#Maj7 sus2 Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music
Phil W
It's the E on the top that makes it weird. The middle four strings play a common Ebmajor7 shape - then you have the fifth in the bass, no big deal - but then that open E creating a kind of cluster sound. If I had to notate that I'd call it EbMaj7b9/Bb http://philwbass.com

I understand the A shape goes up barred giving C, D, E and the E shape goes up barred giving G, A, but am confused on C, G and D. Do you just barre like the A and E shapes? A String
I'm a moron! Sorry Derrik. I put sus2, beacuse when I was trying out the chord, for some reason, I was trying it on the D Maj7, not the D#Maj7. Doh!
