Thomann's is especially good if you can keep your purchases under the custom's limit (around $800).  I ordered an item from them on a Monday and it arrived from Thomann's on Wednesday.  Because there were no customs duties I saved about 40% over purchasing in the states and it probably arrived faster as well.  Thomann's also has a 3 year warranty where in the US it is typically 1 year.  They do send Euro style plugs so you have to purchase a Euro two pin to US two pin converter (generally about $3).  The power sources are generally 100-240V so that piece doesn't really matter.

Can the converter be bought from them too?

And how exactly can you be sure what the fee will be ? (Customs)

And around 800$ can be iffy... What is the hard cutoff number?

There have been some decent ones.  Cinesamples (not really for me as I don't do orchestral composing) had an unprecedented sale, not sure if it's over.

That IK sale is very good if you are just starting out and in need of a lot of different plugins.  Heck B-3X alone is normally more than the entire Max bundle price I think.

LA Scoring strings is on sale for 150, but no more strings for me until I use the ones I have more!

For anyone needing drums, 8dio had 3 kits on sale for 20 bucks each (I got one, and 15 bucks off doing the "refer a friend" thing).  Superior Drummer is $295 at Thomann, which believe it or not is a very rare sale and the lowest anyone remembers seeing it.   Also the lowest, BFD3 is $49 right now--I'd jump on that but I don't like what I'm hearing about instability on Macs, and that product has changed hands several times.  I don't really "need" drums in any case so I'm exercising new-found restraint this year!  (I might pick up Sun Drums from SonicCouture if it were to go half off though!)

Not to steal this thread's thunder, and I'll remove if desired, but a great place to spot deals is on reddit:   look for "By Grabthar's Hammer", audioproductiondeals reddit.   The folks at vi-control have a thread going as well, they are of course focused a bit on sample libraries.

Is Thomann legit?  The overseas company?  I've been scared to order from them before... Their prices are low compared to here... Always seems sketchy to me.

Boot time is my second biggest gripe with the Kronos. My biggest gripe? ...

At one time I owned 3 Kronos. (Kroni? Kronoses? Kronoon?) Kronos 2 61, Kronos 2 76, and Kronos 1 61. Was going to sell the Kronos 1 after buying a pair of 2's but the going rate was so low at the time I just kept it as backup. Started selecting sound libraries that I wanted to install. Contacted Korg about the ability to install sample packages on the three machines and was told that a sample pack can only be installed on one machine. They are locked by machine id, not customer id. I really wanted flexibility on which sounds were coming from each keyboard but according to Korg I would have had to buy sample sets for each one. I sold the 76 and the Kronos 1. Will sale the Kronos 2 61 as soon as I save up for a Fantom 7. I hate Korg's method of sample management. Don't have that issue with Akai.

Well it's completely understandable why they would lock the samples to a single machine.  But I used to hate that as well.

With that said, it's no longer an issue.  You can now license the samples on multiple machines.  I think up to 3.  But may say 2 to be safe.  (It's more than one though.😁)

I missed out on a great deal on a used Kronos 2 with a case yesterday...it was on the guitar center site for less than a day, had it in my cart but then had a work zoom meeting and it was gone afterward.  Argh!  Congrats if one of you nabbed it.  :)    I'm trying to decide between a used Kronos 2 and a used Fantom, 61 key...pros and cons for each for my uses.

I'm a bit leery of the original Kronos simply because they might be as much as 15 years old at this point, otherwise I'd go for one of the ones they have on there.  Plus I admit I like the wood sides on the 2, and the price for the one I missed was only a bit more than the originals.   There's still some nice deals for the Kronos 2 88 on there but I'm not sure I'm manly enough to deal with tendonitis loading that thing.  If I can play piano on my Modx7 I'll have no issues playing on the Fantom or Kronos 61  :D

I got a UPS with "voltage regulation" (not sure if a 60 dollar UPS really has this, but hey!) after some dodgy power at one gig caused some really weird behavior from my keyboards.  I don't always take it out but sounds like I'd need to if I got the Kronos.

How much would the Kronos have been?

I have a new LCD driver board coming from the UK (got lost on the first attempt) for an old Kronos put together from all the Kronoseses I've fixed up in the past for people.
It seems to all be fine apart from a few faders and knobs missing, touchscreen works, just can't see anything! Oh, and all I have is an 88 keybed chassis, not a 73 which this one is 😝

Sounds like everything works! I will probs persevere and make a rack at some point! I did do a few designs during the 'no-gig time!'

This will be my 4th Kronos. I'm sure there's a massive reason that I just need one somewhere in my rig!

But… having said that - if it ends up having more issues than I have time for, I may have to get a 61 Nautilus! (convincing myself, 'cause it's in bold)
Put the Kronos finally to rest.

If you did a Kronos rack, I'd love to try one and help promote it.  Lol.  I know a ton of people that would be dying to have one. 😂😂😂

I really like the idea of Nautilus as a slightly scaled down Kronos at a lower price. But it would have been nice to continue to have the Kronos available for those who want the aftertouch, KARMA, and full control surface; and there should have been an update to bring the new sounds of the Nautilus to the Kronos (and maybe, to the extent that it makes sense, some of the interface enhancements). Maybe they still intend to bring out a higher end workstation that is a more complete and enhanced Kronos replacement, but at least for now, they don't have something that can fully go head-to-head against the Montage/Fantom/K2700 if you care about control surface and aftertouch.

Definitely have to consider the fact that Kronos came out over a decade ago.... Montage and Fantom are MUCH MUCH newer... And to be honest Kronos STILL beasts them in terms of sonic potential and maybe even onboard control.  Fantom is the only of the 3 that can sit at the table with Kronos though...overall.

Kronos had to end at some point.  But yes hopefully something else comes later on for us to use and enjoy!

Exact same here. I played the 88 in the GC and thought...well not for me.

I'm a Yamaha fan but a similar cross brand comparison -- why I would buy a Montage while they still are in production.

    @dalpozlead @Dave Ferris

the keybed in the Nautilus is the same as the Kronos....so what problems do y'all have with the key action? (Or did you not like the Kronos keybed either?)

and the build quality is one of the selling points .... Especially as a step down version and the price point.  Comparison boards from Roland and Yamaha pale in comparison in that area .... All plastic.

Nice features on the Nautilus. I think they are a great instrument if you don't own a Kronos and want to get into it. I wouldn't though, be selling my Kronos for one. I don't really consider it an upgrade, but it seems entirely rational in today's world that Korg have progressed to this type of configuration. At least there are less moving parts to wear out, and still retaining the functionality in some form. 👍

Retained functionality in the majority of form.  IMO Korg was the only company of the big three that didn't release a step down version of their "flagship"... Korg waited till the end of Kronos life to do it.  VERY SMART....

and then to release it and they be basically the same minus Karma, and some controls, but at the same time ADDING some things that Kronos didn't have... And shaving close to 1000$ off the asking price.

But it does come down to functionality and user preference.  What works for some may not work for everyone.  So I def understand where some people would want a Kronos instead.

My mint condition Kronos 2 73 arrived last week, and I just sold my Kronos 61 for more than I paid for it (used).

You bought it new and then sold it for more used than you paid?  If so, that's a lick!!!! Congrats!

Congrats on the Kronos 73.  I got a few videos for those too.  I love mine🥰🥰🥰

    Kronos is King!!!

Umm, question:  Could a Korg Nano-Kontrol 2's buttons be programmed to turn on and off programs within a combination, much like using the scene buttons? I know the faders can be programmed for CX3 organs.  Thanks.

The faders on the Nano Kontrol can not be programmed for organ faders (currently) but I'm working on something.

And yes possibly on the mutes.  Let me check that though and get back with you.

I have had mine for 16 months. I enjoy it a lot- mostly the bread and butter piano/B3/Rhodes sounds. In particular, I think think it sounds better than several of my VSTS.

How have you gotten by with making drawbar adjustments to the cx3 patches?

Kronos 2 on reverb are being offered at about the same price as a new Naitilus.  Thanks for sharing!

That's great!!!  Kronos is still KING!!!!

The only problem with making an investment like that today is if something goes wrong, parts are dumb scarce.

But yes that's still great news!  I love my Kronos too!
