  1. it's your laptop there are sometimes problems either with fanaticised anti-virus software or with older Macbooks that do not handle up to date 'security certificates' anymore. Your case seems to be firefox specific. Maybe try another browser or apply the 'fixes' mentionend on the website below. If this does not help we can add a 'link' where at least you can download the editor software. https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/pr-end-of-file-error/
  2. the 2000 (??? stopped counting...) GM/SoundCanvas sounds are cumbersome to use (although there are very fine sounds as 'Suitcase', PhaseRhodes, all the vintage synth patches ...), but the extended 'VR registration savable' layering (and 4 zones split) are a big plus: recently layered 2 Alto Saxes from 'standard' soundset and hidden Atelier sounds - much fatter and realistic (solo sax) sound than any 'single' patch. In exchange one has to deal with bad Grands and a rather cheasy & buggy organ ....

  4. * update editor: local control was a shot in the foot - so no local control. Reworking of VA-synth still has not come to a satisfying result ... * VR + 'realtime Arpeggiator' hack with VR09 + Windows laptop + 'BlueArp' VST + ELEMENT vst-host :
  5. thought about the same for a brieve moment, for 'upgrading' to an all-in-one board with usable acoustic pianos Under this aspect it's probably a good choice when compared to VR 'factory-only' options. BUT the short gas attack was followed by 'grouding': with its hidden options VR is an unbeatable beast, I'd miss the dbeam, I'd miss the joystick-leslieswitch - and as it's combined to a stage-DP, the horrible VR-APs might be annoying as such, but in the real world setup they aren't used anyway.
  6. No CC for rotary nor drawbars. There's a list which CCs the VR understands on the indicated website (scroll to 'classic midi signals'). solutions: - a 2nd app on ipad that translates VR sysex to GSI-CC (and vice versa), like TB MidiStuff (5 bucks), keystage, lemur (+/- 20 bucks) - Midi Solution box (for VR -> Ipad), 150-200 bucks -- Apropos new Editor : sorry for the delay, yet another series of 'hidden' features saw the daylight and asked for being integrated (brand new from last 2 weeks is local control and bass-to-lower layering with some 'ATELIER bass note accompaniment' magic ) -- https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/midi
  7. TEASER editor v1.12.17 (soon to come....) - integration of '(Gaia) Sound Designer' (the former CTRLR VR SYNTH panel) into standard ctrlr Editor: an upped GUI for manipulating 'VA-synth'. - integration of new 'hidden sounds' from ATELIER Organ GS soundlist and Roland 'Sound-Canvas' (from Roland SC modules 8820/8850/D70) - bugfix of 'VA waves' in editors V-SYNTH (broken in a previous editor release) - many bugfixes Example: 'hidden' Sound Canvas sounds of VR VR_jodel2.mp4
  8. APs of 730 and 09: identical. The action makes a subtle difference (althought I tried VR09 with different midi-ed actions... famous VR700 Waterfall, SK-1 Waterfall, DP Hammer-Action ... well, don't expect wonders... a shitty Grand is a shitty Grand) F-0X organ: basically the same 'timbre'. Finer overtones on a very subtile level (headphones+careful A:B-ing). Rotary like VR09 + VK-8 style rotary MFX (which implies menu-diving) (+): Roland fixed VR700/09/730 organ retrigger bug - as I'm obviously the only person in world who got grey hair about - forget it (-) only one 'part': no upper-lower split, no (pedal)-bass.
  9. CTRLR Editor: important Bugfix Release v1.12.16 (please install) VR09/730 EDITOR v1.12.16 adds 'virtual midi keyboard' + important bugfixes: - added virtual midi keyboard (left main menu [V-KEY]-button) - Bugfix UPG Editor : multi-select 'copy': fixed crashing when 'insert range' passes registration 25:4 - Bugfix SOUND-KBD Panel: fixed broken SLT sound load (myfault made it dysfunctional in previous release ;)) - Bugfix Sound-DIALs: fixed buggy 'patchlist refresh' + optimised handling - EDITOR Windows-Standalone ('exe'): fixed all heavy issues when initialising at EDITOR startup (this release is 'quasi mandatory' for all users of the windows standalone ) https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/editor-vr09-730
  10. For info: found 2 bugs (disfunctional green 'Synth-mode' and porta/tune pots sending wrong values): the fixed editor is on the v-combo server, please download again
  11. key action is a master piece of mechanical design - one of the best ever build. Real (big) drawbars also add to 'man-machine-interaction'. Must say: the 'freed' MFX and the cability to add 'same category sounds' (e.g. two brass patches - with tuned MFX) result into big sounds in a band mix (imho 700 has, compared to new VRs, less refined waveforms but the much punchier DACs). Weight is a big handicap - it weights as much as the sum of VR09 + (hammer action) digital piano Personally I also hate the 'puralistic number scheme' of (song) Favorites without the cababilty to give them proper names - resulting into outdated 'paper sheet notation' and numberless accidential overwrites of Favorite x-y numbers ....
  12. Hello, new (stable) 'official beta' release of VR700 CTRLR EDITOR: - Editor V-SYNTH section with hacked 'hidden Cosm MFX' (78 'identified' and highly customisable Cosm MFX saved with 'Favorites'). examples for MFX are fully customisable 'Sympathetic Resonance' for Grand Pno (including 'lid angle', 'resonance filters', 3-band semi-parametric EQ etc), per-patch EQ. numberless Delay/Phaser/Flanger FX, Rotary-Sims, Amp-Sims (N-stack, Jazz Chorus etc), LoFi/Telephone/Turntable FX etc etc etc. - Editor V-SYNTH allows to 'detune' two identical layered sounds (like in multi-oscillator subtractive synthesis) for generating 'fat synth sounds' or 'octave-shift' of layered sounds (like two brass patches) for 'fat' sounds. - graphic redesings - many (really many) bugfixes (todos for 1..03 'full release': update the intergrated web-usermanual, redesign of syx-im/export and 'Editor registrations') Download from here: https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/roland-vr700-v-combo-editor
  13. korrrrekt unfortunately ctrlr.org has been abandonned by its owner and we, the 'panel developpers', cannot upload new panels anymore. For this reason CTRLR based editors for VR09/730 and VR700 are continued at https://v-combo.webspace.rocks Once made a 'on-the-run' (excuse timing-messed playing) demo of a layered, 'detuned' and slightly MFXed synth patch. Dunno if it's the DACs or the waveforms, but 700 is capable of deep retro Marillion style sounds *love*. vr700_editor_synth.mp3
  14. doubt 5S '2.0' is on Casios marketing plans for the near future, apparently they dropped the 'classic stage key' segment (personally no grieve about, it's their decision and 5S will serve for many more years ...) VR700: funny - weeks ago I took it to rehearsal instead of VR09 and it kicked in - organ sound, drawbars - but also acoustic piano: after some work on the 'hacked' sympathetic resonance MFX playing on parameters like semi-graphical 3-band EQ, lid opening, etc - the initially thin and boxy Grand transformed into a decent and full sounding AP The actual editor version is marked 'beta' (e.g. the integrated html-manual is not yet updated) but the functionality is stable. All settings of 'free Cosm MFX hack' save to Favorites, so there's unlimited possibilties for sound creation, e.g. adding amp/speakers models (guitar stacks, JazzChorus etc) to EPs or 'double-layer' a synth sound, detune each layer aka 'oscillator' like in analog synths and add MFX ... etc etc etc. Yeah, and maybe there'll be a redesign next year to make the editor more user-friendly https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/roland-vr700-v-combo-editor
  15. and I'll stay faithfull with 5S BTW, your sig shows a VR700 - for info: there is an editor for Windows/Mac for easier 'UI', unlocking of 80 MFX and some more hidden features.
  16. I don't think that the 'pro' market (that we more correctly should call 'gigging musicians' market) is very relevant. By observation the synth/stagepiano/stageorgan corner of a music store is a very lonly place - clients are usually grouping around home DPs
  17. last Friday our local store received the 7000 'mustard' so I dropped the pencil andI rushed to give it a try Here I 'add my mustard' (german saying ;)): Look: uff, it's tiny. Especially when it's standing on that 'airy' Casio stand in the middle of the hall Color: very 'extra' - more 'deep'/intense as one expects from pix/vids Chassis: face-to-face the eye discoveres much more details of this art deco/bauhaus 'architecture' - very special and unique. Pedal unit: ultra-sturdy. Feels like full metal. Not comparable to cheap 3-fold 'attachable' pedal boxes ++++ Action (haha, everybodies big questionmark): first: playability near the fall board is like on PX 1k/3k action: in a range of 2cm (1") from the fallboard it's not playable. Even when hammering down the fingers it was impossible to reach max velocity. Out of this area it's playable. The overall feel is _very_ different from PX1k/3k: it rassembles much to Roland PHA-50. When 1k/3k is a bit 'sluggish' (one feels and hears the hammers rebounding against the keys) there is nothing like that on the new action. There is zero tolerances, everything is 'solid', key rebound is fast (and quiet) and repetition (key repetition point is ca. 5mm above down position) is ultra-fast (absolutely no compare to old PX5s/560 actions). And indeed, it's even quieter than I expected. Smart or unsmart - 2-sensor does not allow sustained playing above the escapement (for the few human beings able to do this ) ++++ Grand sound: while on new Roland 'X' models I don't appreciate some overly-sharp 'artificial' timbre in the decant, PX grands (all three) are a rather 'pleasant'. Decay is 25sec for middle-C and ca. 35 sec for lowest C (which is ok). There is subitle decay looping and in some circumstances (certain intervals/triads) it superposes for a bit strange beats - BUT (!) this is when hunting the loops on my over-resolving headphones - one won't hear anything of it when played via onboard or off-board speakers/PA ++++ EPs: 2-3 'barky' EPs but the rest is rather 'smooth' - imho that suits the 7k and its customer segment (I don't see its place in a loud rock/R&B band...) ++++ natural (solo) instruments (violine, trumpet, etc): well ... horror. This is 'unlistenable' 80th sound quality. OK, the saxes might work, they use a lot of blow sound ++++ synth sounds: that's still Casios strong point. Fat. Ultra-rich. Colourfull. But remember it's only 'patches' - don't expect anything like old PX hex-layer synth ++++ UI: very chique ... and 'spartanic': heavy menu diving and 'confusing' at a 2 hours 'on the go' test without consulting the manual - anyway I don't think it makes much sense trying to customise the PX without using the App. ++++ There had been spontaneous lust for 'tuning' the sounds with 'free MFX' (e.g. on the EPs): unlinke 6k, 7k does not provide this feature - so if one likes modding sounds the only recommendation can be the 6k. ++++ Thoughs: for those who still expect a successor of PX5S/560: forget it. Apples and oranges. The old are 'stage-piano-synthesizers/workstations', the new 7k is not. Simple as this. A part from its main purpose - the living of a stylish flat/penthouse/loft/blabla - one can imagine it as permanent piano in a fashion cafe-bistro, on weddings, accompagniment piano for an elegant chanson/Jazz lady-singer etc. - and in these situations it's THE eye-catcher (the total opposite of all those boring 'technocratic' plastic bombers that we get from other brands) - and there is nothing wrong about it
  18. ah ja, there've been 1 or 2 reports of antivirus software not loving the site. De facto there is no reason - the website only contains pure text and some jpegs - no archives, no videos, no executables (which are anyway not allowed by the hoster), it does not ask for passwords nor credit card numbers ... Editor: it's just a tool to access the 'VR hidden features', the 'added value' comes from Roland (even if this was an unintentional 'accident' ) - and yeah, without those hidden features I personally would have swapped from VR09 to Hammond SK1 (because of its by far better organ sound and more pleasant pianos)
  19. VR 'GM2' sound engine: worth to be used during the work on ctrlr editor the 'internal GM2 engine' of VR came under heavy investigation The GM2 engine is a sound engine independent from 'VR keyboard engine and can be played using an external key (e.g. master controller, keytar, ...) The advantages might be: - no risk of the external key 'messing up' the VR settings as the GM2 engine is independent from VR engine - VR GM2 sounds can be assigned (layered) to various zones of an external key - VR GM2 engine has own types of effects (different type of chorus, classic midi vibrato etc) - VR GM2 engine has A LOT of sounds not available in VR engine, for example (complex) synth sounds or usuable 'CP 70' electric grands - VR GM2 engine also has all 'synthesizer-sounds' of VR SYNTH section and the entire range of 'ATELIER' and 'Synth Legends Tones' of the VR-engine => how to find the GM2 sounds: a) with the aid of ctrlr editor editor: it shows an overview of all (yet known) GM2 sounds and can (temporarily) load the GM2-sounds from GM2-engine into VR-engine for 'exploring' and 'testing'. If you found 'your sound', read "bank select + program change" numbers shown in editor and transfer them to the external (midi) keyboard. b) by browsing program change 'ranges', examples: msb lsb program 0-15 0 1-128 : 'Standard Roland GM2/GS' sound set like in HP and LX pianos 117 0 1-128 : VR synth sounds (all VA-synthesizable sounds from VR SYNTH and PIANO section) 117 1 1-128 : SLT (Synth Legend Tones) 80-95 0 1-128 : ATELIER soundset: get program changes from 'ATELIER organ midi implementation manual' and add '80' to the 'msb' values 120 0-1 1-128 : 'official' VR GM2 DRUMKITS (see Roland VR midi implementation manual) 121 0-1 1-128 : 'official' VR GM2 sounds (see Roland VR midi implementation manual) => midi 'effects' applyable to GM2: VR GM2 engine accepts a number of classic midi effects like chorus, reverb, vibrato, portamento, expression/volume, transpose, filter, envelope, mono/poly .... see 'List of classic ...': https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/midi
  20. Hi, news about VR: * 'pishing warning' of v-combo website: 'Big Brother' Google erratically put the webstite onto their 'black list' databases After protest it was removed within a day * VR 'half damper' functionality: we've been informed that VR detects 'half damper' (like send from Roland DP10): this is correct, I could also use 'half damper' plugging in the expression pedal (same electric circuit as Roland half damper sustain pedals) * VR 'Twin Rotary' as 'standalone Leslie': after switching 'VR rotary' off, MFX Twin Rotary can be used as a proper 'Leslie', reacting to fast-slow (wobble-stick) switch, rotary speed config settings etc. In absence of the 'VR rotary amp sim' the sound gets very crispy with a lot of overtones. This can be helpful for a 'clear Jazz organ' as well as rough Hard Rock organ (example: it's per se impossible to bring VR organ near to the 'Born to be Wild' B3, but with TwinR it at least comes a tiny little step closer ). Details for setting up 'Twin Rotary-Rotary': https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/organ-settings * MFX 'Twin Rotary' as Chorus/LFO effect: TwinRotary can be used as a '3D' Chorus or 'Tremolo' effect: the influence of 'rotary config settings' on TwinRotary makes it the only 'customisable MFX' on VR Details in the 'tips&tricks' section (search for keyword 'Twin Rotary'): https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/bugs-tips-tricks
  21. Roland AEx (Active Expression) sounds - howto Some of the VR ATELIER sounds (accessible through ctrlr editor) show the name prefix "AEx" (like "AEx Strings") What is AEx? AEx sounds are sounds that variate when using the expression pedal: the expression pedal not only changes the level but also modifies the sound/timbre (that's why 'active expression' ) For AEx to work in VR the AEx-sound must be loaded into the KBD-voices UpperManual:SYN1, SOLO or LowerManual:SYN1 (AEx-sounds do not work in other voices nor in GM2 engine) As ctrlr editor was programmed using the 'full Atelier sound list' of the Atelier organ top model (AT900) but the VR itself does not contain the entire set, not all AEx sounds are functional though. But some are - examples of working AEx sounds: - AEx Strings, AEx Violin, AEx AltoSax: pushing the expression pedal makes the sound not only louder but also brighter - AEx PianoStr, AEx EP+Str: moving the expression pedal in the 'last milimeters' fades in/out the strings

  24. ah, that's cool, mpn now allows to upload videos. Here's something that had been published in the FB group. Certain - no ambient noodeling will ever touch the heart of the organ artist - but could give an idea what the VR is capable of 3 sounds from VR "GM2 engine", loaded into 'keyboard-layer' by Editor and played on VR09 keys. Sounds evolve as 'they are are', no (realtime) modding apart from pressing keys bathyscape.mp4
  25. ctrlr.org actually is at a still stand. The new editor release is downloadable from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_CJVGF0tACCxr1m0Y5yw7YLWEg1bvMF0?usp=sharing (for more details visit VR09 main thread "Roland V-Combo VR-09")
