  1. Yes I read that the artifacts have been eliminated. I'm heading in to get a new knee in a week and while I'm recovering I hope to have time to do the updates and spend some serious time tweaking the HX3 and trying it with the new Drawbar Module. I already really like the HX3 and with the updates, I expect I'm going to like it even more.
  2. the updates are quite an improvement, Craig, not in the tonewheel set which is already fine, but the C/V, overdrive, and of course the leslie sim. Like the Mojo, no exteranal leslie simulator is needed. Re read hardware's post's in this thread. He had a Burn and a Vent and sold them both. Dave, I quite liked the Leslie sim and I never would have thought of using my Ventilator or Burn, however I was one of those guys who could hear the digital artifact that was present in that release. I could hear it in the horn when the upper Drawbars were pulled out.. I had to dial that out and then the sim sounded a lot better. But I could tell that it's definitely a good sounding sim.
  3. Mine didn't sound good straight out of the box, if took a bit of tweaking to get a reasonable amount of bottom end, but i got mine in June/July timeframe, and reading the version updates, a lot has been improved with recent updates and my release may have been a bit of an anomaly (my HX3 wasn't even configured with R/L stereo Leslie sim output which I would think should have been the default).. That said it didn't take much to get it sounding pretty great..! But like everything new if took a bit of time to figure out the interface and what parameters did what (the nomenclature is a bit different from other clones).
  4. I have both the Mojo and the HX3 module, and I think that these two are definitely top of the heap, when it comes to hammond clones, IF you listen to JUST them by themselves without any assistance from a tube preamp or a ventilator pedal, or whatever people seem to have to add to Hammond SK's to get them sounding good. Maybe this will change when NAMM rolls around (some hints have been dropped about something new from Hammond, but Hammond has been disappointing me for quite some time now).. However, I think that in the future we are going to start judging hammond clones NOT on how close they can come to the sound of a Hammond, but more based on the variety of Hammonds that you can sound like.. So basically on their "tweak ability". So not just on how authentic they can sound, because all clones can be made to sound authentic, but how many people can you satisfy with the editing options you provide and how easy it is to achieve the different sounds that each of us want. In this regard, I think that right now the Mojo is way ahead.. The Mojo windows editor is awesome the way it sets out the various parameters, starting with choosing your tonewheel set right through to adjusting the matching transformer (something that no other clone has, which is like a drawbar offset). To be honest I have not spent as much time editing my HX3 as I have with my Mojo, but my impression is that the Mojo is superior in this regard. Also, there is a warmth that is characteristic of the VB3 software (upon which the Mojo is based) that I hear in no other clone, including the HX3. My HX3 is not up to date, and I will be updating it and spending more time with it over the next few weeks.. So we will see if my opinion changes once I've tweaked it a bit more.. That said there is an complexity to the tone of the HX3 that gives it a very authentic sound, and I do really like the overdrive, and the HX3 is very satisfying to play. My comments are about things that some others might not hear, and I recognize are quite subtle things. There is no question in my mind that the HX3 module is going to sell quite well.
  5. Christian, I have a lot of stuff to do before I get to this, so don't worry. I haven't updated my HX3 model at all since I got it 6 months ago, and I just received my Drawbar controller from you guys, which I haven't even tried yet.. I'm really busy at this time. I will try to make sure that the HX3 is current if/when I get to this.
  6. Luis, if I get a chance to do this I will... thanks for your thoughts on the HX3/Burn combination!
  7. Thanks Bill, I used the HX3 this summer with a horn band at the Beaches Jazz festival here in Toronto, and I got a lot of complements on the sound (I used the HX3 with my Kronos, and set up the HX3 to replace the Kronos CX3 engine), the guys I was playing with really loved it. However, the guitar player from my regular classic rock band dropped by to hear us and he said that based on what he was hearing the Leslie effect wasn't as pronounced in the mix as I usually was (when I use my Mojo and play with him). Now there could have been a number of reasons for that (it obviously depends a lot on the FOH mix) but my guitar player knows hammonds, he's used real Leslies, and he and I bought our original ventilators together (we were early adopters) so I trust his ears. It was very interesting that he picked up on the difference in the Leslie sim.. Honestly, my HX3 is very bright, and I think the low rotor isn't coming through as much and that was what he was/wasn't hearing.. I have to get the new update loaded in and make sure that I've got the outputs set correctly, then start playing with my Leslie sims (vent/burn/HX3) and really see how they compare. Beyond the simple animation (sense of motion) there might be a sweet spot where the overdrives match up really nicely making one combination better than the rest.. However, it would have to be a noticeable difference for me to drag a Burn or a Vent to a gig these days.. I no longer have to do that with my Mojo, and I am really trying to streamline things.
  8. And the Master Volume is absolutely AMAZING! No more clipping of my GSi Burn's input. Thank you Carsten!!! OB1, Do you find that the GSI Burn improves the sound of the HX3 module noticably? I have the Burn and the original Vent and I haven't bothered even trying either with the HX3 because the HX3 sim sounds pretty good to me.. To be honest, my HX3 module has been put away for a couple months, and I haven't updated it yet or really tried tweaking it much beyond what I did the first week I had it. I have the new drawbar controller on order (it's in transit now) and I'm expecting to get back playing with the HX3 once the controller arrives. If you have a spare minute to respond let me know your thoughts on Burn vs the HX3 sim.. Thanks, Craig
  9. Based on the readme notes of this newest version, it's not completely resolved yet, but Carsten advises what it is and how to minimize it. I had already managed to get rid of it, but I did this accidentally as I was just tweaking the overall sound more to my liking (from the factory the HX3 came very bright!!). I thought it was funny that in the comments he said "those of you with young ears" might hear this.. My ears are 60 years old.. ;-)
  10. Well if that's the case TKN, the HX3 should work fine as an organ engine replacement, assuming that it can transmit using the shallow trigger point. The SK CC set in the HX3 should make it really easy to set up and get working with your SK. I do prefer the VB3 V2 Mojo organ, but the HX3 organ is very good too. BTW, when I use my HX3 I plug my expression pedal directly into the HX3 rather than into the controller and rely on midi expression transmission.. It works better I think. Just a tad more responsive.
  11. Christian, I think that Carsten is already aware if it, and it might already be fixed.. This is based on what I recall Ken Hall telling me when I reported it to him. I purchased my HX3 from Ken, he was selling them here in Canada. This may be old news!
  12. Yes, with the SK you will have the high trigger ! (had the SK2 and Sk1-73 before getting the UHL) That makes them great controllers for the HX3. Nord, Numa don'f do it.... But what about sending high trigger point via midi, but simultaneously using deep trigger point for an internal sound like an acoustic piano.. Can the SK do this??
  13. The HX3 does have a built in SK CC set which maps the SK controls to the HX3 functions. I'm not sure the same is true with the Gemini.
