  1. Fortunately, Gig Performer allows you to run multiple instances :-)
  2. No - that's not correct - don't confuse the current upgrade pricing from GP3 to GP4 with the cost when GP4 was first released. GP4 has been out for almost three years so that current upgrade pricing only applies to customers who bought GP3 a long time ago and never upgraded. If they had bought GP3 within 3 months before the GP4 release, they would have gotten GP4 (along with all updates to date) for free. Otherwise, within the first year or so, the upgrade price was nominal (I forget exactly but somewhere around $30). I think we've done a great job providing tremendous value for the price we charge. That said, we understand totally that many users just like to "dabble" and in such cases the value may not be there for them.
  3. Why would a new version coming out bother you?
  4. Yes, he is --- he used to use MainStage and he switched to GP a couple of years ago.
  5. Uhmm, had you changed something in your OS right before your show and didn't test your plugins? We always encourage people to never change anything, including any OS updates, within a week or two of a show explicitly to avoid issues like this. Quite independently of any registration issues, you never know what actually might get broken by OS updates. For example, many plugin manufacturers are strongly recommending that users should not update to macOS Sonoma just yet because of issues with plugins. Curious though, was Halion previously registered and just had to be reregistered (if so, why) or had it never been registered?
  6. Try a powered hub -- who knows how much current the interface is drawing and how much power is available from your computer. Is your computer plugged in or running on battery with a battery plan that might not be providing enough power to USB?
  7. Are you using a powered hub? What else is connected to the same USB port?
  8. Easy to set that up with Gig Performer .... 😇 (Disclaimer - I'm one of the GP developers)
  9. Indeed -- I was wondering why you kept referring to the demo version!
  10. In recent versions of GP, you can get a list your complete list of plugins (at least those that GP found) as a CSV file, which you can then paste into Excel or another spreadsheet making it easy to manage and/or keep track of them.
  11. If you just want to load VST plugins into MS then there are lots of plugin chainers that can act as hosts for other plugins --- e.g, Patchworks, Metaplugin as well as some free ones. That said, Gig Performer can load AU, VST2 and VST3 plugins directly so no need for the extra complexity and overheard of a plugin chainer. (Disclaimer, I'm one of the GP developers)
  12. Uhm....normally it's the other way round. If it wasn't, we'd never have bothered to invent Gig Performer :-) Just saying :-)
  13. That's a lot failures. While I can see why exactly why you would be very skeptical, (and I'd probably feel the same way if that happened to me), I think one has to be very careful to remember that anecdotes are not data, in other words, it's not reasonable to generalize based on a sample of 1 (or even 2 or 3 :-) ) Classic examples of "infant mortality" and "old age" respectively. The former is clearly detected quickly but of course how old is "old age" is more problematic and that's maybe the reason to carry a backup machine if feasible.
  14. (A) Because many people don't understand the actual risks (B) Many people feel better having such coverage © They're encouraged to by Apple (you should own Apple stock!!!) (D) Apple Care covers a lot of things beyond internal failure --- I believe you get coverage for a certain number of accidental damage Extended warranties have become a huge profit center for companies. You almost can't buy an eraser from Staples or a battery from Amazon without being offered an extended warranty! (A) Ability to retrieve older versions of a file (B) Ability to restore to an earlier version of OS X if a new version breaks something (that has happened to me) © Corruption due to malware / ransomware and (D) of course because computers CAN fail! Sure - yet an airplane is clearly more complex than a car but the statistics indicate that it's safer to fly than to drive. Doubling (say) the risk of failure is very different when your original risk was 0.1% vs 10% (say) In other words, while the risk may very well be higher in relative terms, the actual risk may still be very tiny. As I've noted before, if the risk of failure was significant, you wouldn't have hundreds of thousands of musicians performing on stage using laptops.
