  1. Thanks Morizzie ,I have no aptitude for computers , everything that was set up on my youtube channel was done by someone from work , the only thing I know how to do is to upload the videos onto my channel .

Here ya go. - Nice playing!

  2. I didn't need it, but for the price I couldn't pass it up.

Had to join you on this, Jake. Still can't understand this deal. Wondering if it's too good to be true. Even so...

Anyway, I'm just going to hang it on the wall. It should do that just fine.

    Dave,

I found out about this over at Talk Bass...... at first I hesitated, but Ebay and my CC company will provide relief if it falls through. Even if it craps out I blew less on this than lunch at DD for the wife and me. I actually plan on de-fretting it to go with the Jazz I bought a few months ago. If it comes out nice I'll probably give it to that student I bought the Mustang for 2 years ago - she should be graduating next year and I know that she still plays.

Maybe wire it up as a lamp?

  3. ... The only downer I have experienced is with the 1.2.0 update they took away the animation in the cabs section and replaced it with the front wooden box - no joy. I have a support ticket in with them asking to make it a toggle since my Mini 5 experienced no ill effects with it running. I hope they make it an option because it's so much easier to see an animation of spinning horns and baffles than trying to explain what a Leslie does...................... especially with drummers.

It"s still there. Go to Cabs, then hit the keyboard icon at the top.

The SK setup is not correct in the Leslie switching between stop and fast, and the app gets out of sync with the SK. Select stop on the SK, then fast (both SK and app speed up) and then again. The SK shows 'stop' lit and 'fast' unlit and the internal sim is slows to a stop. The app will have switched 'stop' off when it went to fast and is now running at chorale speed.

    John,

I was hoping you were correct and i just missed that tab, but no joy. In the updated notes section (7.1.1) there"s a statement that describes the animated cab as having too much processor draw on older iPads. Trouble is I"m using a mini 5 which is Apple"s latest processor and I didn"t have any issues running the animation. I think IK just decided to blanket all the minis with the same configuration. Regardless of the keys tab being visible or not, all i get is the closed cab view for all models of amp and cabinet.

Paul at IK is the contact person I"ve been in touch with and understands the problem. He went back and forth with the dev team and hopefully they can work out a solution. I wouldn"t mind if they left it on constantly instead of a toggle, but I"m hopeful that they can restore the animation with the next update.

    Thanks for your reply.

  4. Thanks for posting your videos, they helped me decide that I want this. I have tube Hammonds, but I"ve used either an SK-1 or a Nord to get me through gigs for a number of years. I have an HX-3, which I like a lot too but using an iPad would be extremely handy. I am still going to wait until I get my iPad Mini 5 to purchase the app so I"m glad I have some breathing room. I played on an M3 and B3 (still have both) a lot, and I"m thinking of splitting my SK-1 73 key into two, with the top part using 44 keys and the remaining keys going for the bottom. Not sure how that would work but if it did, it would be great. I really like the key bed of the SK-1, so thats a plus. Another post mentioned using Neo Keys and Ravenscroft apps - that sounds like a good idea to me too. Not to be redundant, but the fact IK Multimedia came out with an update, this soon, and with good features speaks well to their intentions and makes the price seem reasonable.

I just noticed myself the re: in reference to the vids: You're quite welcome. This app is so deep you won't get tired of it , and I can safely say I have it maybe 95% identical to my personal B sound wise. One thing you may not be aware of is that since this was developed with HS the IK team is quick to point out that an SK model would be a great controller keyboard for B3X. There is a drop down menu that supports "SK Series", as well as "XK Series" , and "XK-3 Series", so you should be good to go once you score your iPad Mini 5. The only downer I have experienced is with the 1.2.0 update they took away the animation in the cabs section and replaced it with the front wooden box - no joy. 5. I knew I had some pics of my older stuff. Here they are in no particular order:

The MTI Rotophaser that actually moved air:

The home made stomp box controller I made when the original plastic one went tits up:

Wow! You are the first person I've ever seen who had one as well. I had the MTI Rotophaser too! I ran my Crumar T2 into a 12 inch PolyTone Bass amp to drive it. It was all I could afford then. I eventually found a Leslie 147 with a preamp pedal for $125.00 in 1981 under a blanket in the back corner of Red Bank Music. Drove it home down the Garden State Parkway sticking half way out of the back of my Plymouth TC3 hatchback. Eventually got a Yamaha EM-150 mixer so I could mike the Rotophaser and run my Juno-6 and Moog Rogue into the mixer and send a feed to FOH.

OK Doc, here are some more memories. I broke the stupid foot controller the second time I stepped on it, so I made a wooden housing patterned after my Leslie preamp pedal. This was moving air, but no adjustments for speed or balance. Maybe this where the Leslie 2101 came from ( I have one of those also).

  7. IIRC, I think the price changes on March 1st. I don"t want to set off any false alarms, but I think that info was posted on IK"s website. Hopefully someone has more accurate information, but I do know the 99.00 was an intro price. I"ll try to find more accurate data.

Here it is, at the bottom of the page - says March 2020, no date specified:

  8. Because I was doubling on bass back in the day I had a Tapco 6000 mixer into the power section of a tuck and roll Kustom 250 bass amp with a pair of 15's in the cabinet. Keys were a Wurli 140B, and then a Univox Organizer with the funky draw bars. Around 1979 I discovered the RVS II , which was made by Yorkville and was one of the first dedicated keyboard amps- it even had a rotary simulator usable on any of the 5 channels. Great amp, bulletproof, and heavy as hell.

Loved the sound, dont miss the schlep.

  9. James,

Of course I can't play anywhere near James Oscar Smith's capability, but B3X can come thisclose to the 888000000 sound. When you mentioned the "Root Down" album if I recall correctly the cover had a 900 series Leslie instead of a 122. I used a little bit of the stomp eq to come close.

  10. Just downloaded the 1.1 gig update for B3X. If you go to the "Advanced" page you'll see they added split capability for a single keyboard. Choices are:

    Off

    Pedal/Upper

    Lower/Upper

    Pedal-Lower/Upper

    (Old style on left)

Also added support for slower iPads, and AUV3 support.

Haven't tried it out yet, just wanted to give a shout out to all interested.

  11. The first organ my family owned was a Wurlitzer 4300 spinet, which had one of these setups built in. A pair of 6' with a spun aluminum counterweight, mounted in the rear of the cabinet (which explains all the sound holes in the rear panel). A bogus Leslie sure, but it did sound like the real deal, and it did move air.

  12. Shortly after the Earth cooled I recorded this. 22 years ago I was dragging a Korg X5, a Roland R5, a Stage Guitars (from Arlington, Texas) Jazz Bass, and a VHS-C camcorder with a resolution of squat. More hair, more teeth, more strength, better eyesight, and more talent. The years haven't been kind, but at least now with B3X the organ sounds a helluva lot better........

  13. Music is doing just fine in the younger generations. Even though I retired 2 years ago as a music teacher I still keep close tabs on what the current status is, and it"s great. I taught in an urban district, and the budget wasn"t the best, but there were 73 music teachers in that district when I hired on 23 years ago - now they"re up to 77. ONE DISTRICT. Plus, additional programs like Little Kids Rock and Quaver are turning kids on through non traditional means.

On a personal note my You Tube stats took a decent jump recently due to my B3X vids. I checked my stats page and looked up demographics. Most of my views were in the 60+ age group, but 2nd place was 35-40. One comment seems to sum up this thread nicely. It came from a 19 year old who thanked me for displaying my technique on squabbling. He now fully understood it and feels confident he can add it to his arsenal of keyboard tricks. I replied by thanking him for carrying on the tradition of Hammond organ performance, and was glad that the B-3 experience wouldn"t wind up being a preset on a rompler in the future.

    We are O.K.

  14. Here's my solution, not pretty, but functional for my needs.

As Another Scott stated the NE4 isn't great for a master controller. I took his suggestions and tried getting KeyStage to do what I wanted, but after a weekend of frustration, I gave up. Since I'm just requiring B3X out of the iPad I've resigned myself to adding another tier to my stand and using a controller keyboard dedicated just to B3X, and using the NE4 for everything else. Here's what I've got:

    http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL96/792815/4063775/414373925.jpg

    http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL96/792815/4063775/414373926.jpg

Basically the NE4 stays pretty much as is, and the Graphite and my Midi Expressions pedal interface run into a powered USB hub (seen on the left edge of the Nord) and pass through the Camera Connector into the iPad, then the output goes into my Key Largo, along with the NE4 and my bass guitar. I've got two Yamaha FC-7's for expression and volume, but I'm going to try a Hosa splitter (1 TRS split into 2 TRS, 5' long) to cut down to 1 pedal.

The Graphite gives me the control surfaces I need, and I can still use the NE4 organ split for bass if I need it.

Like I said, not pretty, but it does function as I want, and now I do have a backup in case either board goes down on a gig.
