  1. >> Has anyone figured out a way to toggle teh effects on and off? Maybe with external MIDI? Midi work with a midi controller that is able to send sysEx midi messages: - the only sysex-midi controller keyboard actually available is Roland A series (imo A900 it's THE 2nd tier keyboard 'lower' manual' for the VR ...) - a PC, laptop, tablet + 'app' that is able do send sysEx - if you are the lucky owner of an Android phone or tablet and do not principally 'deny' using it with the VR, I can explain you a easy going way to control VR-Midi options >> the only way I can think that might work is to set up side-by-side registries of the same sound, right, as the VR has no 'seamless transition' between registrations, toggling can cause very ugly sound artefacts, especially with all FX that have a 'reverb' (just yesterday evening I tortured my band mates with some registration switch 'explosions' ) another idea: same sound on lower AND upper manual in split-mode: Delay only acts on upper manual, so you can play the same note on upper or lower, with or without Delay. Possible trap : on lower manual none of the other FX (OD, tone comp, MFX) will work. If your sound also uses e.g. a MFX, it will sound differently on upper and lower manual
  2. ok, I'll do the 'quoting' the 'old way' > 1.) The board can still read the USB stick - it loads my user registration files and saved audio loops. in YT you wrote that you'e still on firmware 1.03. For upgrading to 1.12 you must first upgrade to 1.11, did you do that? anyway, as long as it's unclear if the power unit is out of order, don't upgrade (don't do it on battery neither) > 2.) I've been running this board on batteries only all morning and the issues I've had seemed to have disappeared. I'm thinking a defective power unit may be the root cause of my problems. THANK YOU! to be sure that this is the reason: - counter-check: if you switch back to the power unit, does the failure re-appear? - run the Vr on batteries for some more days - and use it (tap on it ...) > Just to clarify, would the power unit be the actual cable with the adapter on it that plugs into DC in port in the back of the board or is the power unit you referred to or an internal power supply component of the keyboard? yes, the 'wart', the external power supply. You can purchase the original one (probably molto $$$) or any generic unit with the same specs and the same plug (the inner contact is negative, the outer is +9V). You can also use the 'Ripcord' USB power supply cable, search https://v-combo.webspace.rocks/gear for 'power supply' > but understand if this conversation is in the wrong spot don't worry, your questions are perfect in this thread BTW if you can access facebook, there's a very active group for VRs (called "Roland V-Combo VR-09 / VR-09-B / VR-730")
  3. Hi, here we are from YT That all does not sound too good Hmm, some things to try though .... 1) Question: is your VR principally able to read-write from/to the USB stick? (Audio-Files, upg-files etc?) 2) You might first try this ( just put the 2 housings together without mounting all the screws): run VR on (fresh) batteries instead of the power unit : there are some reports that a defect power units caused dropouts and 'bizzarre behaviour' f
  4. Hi, that sounds interesting because there's an idea that pedals with high resistance (500 kOhm) could work better on VR (not yet 'simulated'). So I looked for the resistance data of the Nektar: it's ca 11-12 kOhm - which is identical to my M-Audio pedal. As there is no mystics about simple 12 kOhm voltage divider potentiometers, VR09 for sure behaves the same with both pedals. My M-Audio became 'usable' only after the 'mod' described on the website. It now uses its entire 'theoretical' travel (ca 3cm at toe side - before the mod it was 1 cm). So if you wan't your Nektar to be a good VR09 exp pedal, do the 'mod'
  5. Hi, the website progressed: VR09 'keybed mod', 'Leslie jack mod'. More stuff about VR-midi, 'VR gear', VR bugs+workarounds etc https://v-combo.webspace.rocks
  6. V-Combo 09/730 website: https://v-combo.webspace.rocks Note the latest post about how to use VR registrations for playing the 'hidden' GM2 sounds
  7. EDITOR new minor upgrade v1.12.12: Most work has been done on 'help' menus (QuickInfo). There are some stabilizing bugfixes and a few new exotic features like 'V-Piano damper noise' (yeah, VR piano gets damper noise and improved sound), 'Chord Intelligence', Midi-TX channel editing with upg-editor, etc. V-Organ section got a new 'default' setting for Leslie parameters (close to the 'real thing') and shows 'rpm' and 'seconds' for Leslie speed and de/acceleration instead of abstract numbers.... The upg-editor received a function for preparing the VR for playing the 'hidden' GM sounds using VR registrations. For technical reasons it's actually not possible to publish the new version on ctrlr.org but you can download the 'standalone'-exe and the 'panel' plugin (zip-file) from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-b8H_k9iyuWwrCm2gsX-9guoV9zg7lPT?usp=sharing
  8. @ Baggypants / expression pedal modd: sorry, did not find the time to take photos and write a manual. Hope to do it this month
  9. just copy the entire upg file to the stick, plug the stick in VR compartment and use the VR menu 'Media' to either load the complete registration set or individual registrations
  10. 4 info (for those who don't follow FB): expression pedal modd. We recently 'discovered' the reason for the 'on/off' behaviour of expression pedals attached to the VR09/730. The biggest issue: the VR uses only 1/2 of the pedal hub (electrically speaking, the VR reaches full volume at ca. 2.5 V out of 5V of the voltage divider) This is valid vor ALL pedals (even the legendary Yam FC). If interest is here, we can publish a little modd (finally 2 resistors soldered into the pedal or the jack). The modd turns even short hub pedals like EV5, M-Audio etc into something very usable
  11. thx @ all. Glad if it's usable for others In deed it's a lot of work, but it's pure pleasure to discover this keyboard (seems that something from scientists curiosity still not has been erased by 'business' ) For info: The Quick/Info popups have formatting problems on low res (HD, HD+) monitors. A bugfix version 1.12.12 is in preparation.
  12. V-Combo EDITOR: v1.12.11 '4-9-LIVE' MAJOR RELEASE - STAGE view for live performance - Multi (4) Zones setup of VR keyboard - upgrade to 9 voices (+ 2 'bass' voices) - MIDI-Mapper for triggering actions like 'V-SYNTH patch load', drawbar control of virtual organs etc - V-Piano controlled by damper pedal for enhancing stock VR pianos (no miracles though ) - VR registration program change edit in UPG-editor - kolossal adding of QuickHelp and Info popups Download CTRLR panel-plugin or MS-Windows-standalone (it's still free-free ) https://ctrlr.org/roland-vr09-vr730-v-combo-editor http://ctrlr.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VComboEditor_stg.gif http://ctrlr.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VComboEditor_sx.gif
  13. VR09: sending registration program changes , GM2 easy setup, facebook group (1) registration program changes: When studying again and again the VR09 documentation we struggled over the following line: "You can specify the program change numbers that are transmitted from the MIDI OUT connector when you select a registration" wait....'MIDI OUT connector'.... could it be... is it possible ... YES: in fact, BANK-PC changes can be send for each registration - but they are only transmitted on the 5-pin Midi sockets, not the midi-USB ! This allows: - triggering songbook software (e.g. MobileSheets for Windows) - triggering external keys or DAWS/VST Unfortunately it's not possible (until we hack this) to send registration program changes TO the VR. Howto: load a registration, on VR open 'menu', goto to 'MIDI', set "Send PC switch " to ON + set bankMSB, bankLSB and PCnum (attention, PCnum is from 1-128 corresponding to midi values 0-127), save this back to the registration: now when loading this registration, the VR sends the MSB-LSB-PC program change. Tip: Midiman/Midisport boxes are inexpensive and work fine for connecting the 5-Pin midi-sockets to PC-USB and other keys Note : 2020 EDITOR updates will probably add an extension to the UPG-File editor for changing the PC/bank numbers. (2) GM easy setup: you can easily couple the VR to itself (without using software/hardware midi routers) for playing GM-sounds: - connect 5-pin Midi out with Midi-in using a conventional midi (patch) cable - in the VR menu "MIDI' set TX channels for upper/lower/bass (e.g. 7 for upper, 6 for lower, 5 for bass), eventually save this to a VR-registration - In the EDITOR 'GM2' tab, load a GM sound to theses TX-Channels - play note 1: 2020 update will eventually see coupling EDITOR GM registrations to the VR registrations note 2: I really recommend discovering the the VR GM sounds, there are tons of acoustic sounds but particulary the VA 'oldschols' synths//strings/choirs pepped up with chorus are really FAT (3) it's worth registering (maybe with an 'anonymous account') : https://www.facebook.com/groups/496867330478287
  14. v.1.12.10 'XXmas release' : https://ctrlr.org/roland-vr09-vr730-v-combo-editor intermediate update: for new features and fixed bugs, click new 'version info' button on the V-KEYBOARD tab 2020 will (hopefully) see new exiting features: - 2 additonal 'bass-voices' increasing multi-timbrality to 9 voices ( + organ + GM-voices) - 4 zone split (yeah!) - coupling of EDITOR to VR registration program changes (see next post) to load deep synth sounds saved in the editor - better integration of GM2 part Demo: 4 zone split with bass-voice and organ bass (load registration 1-2 from UPG-file): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gVYI6uyKe-2Q2YGgOUfLkohnYGzxgIwi Merry Christmas and a happy New Year "XXXX"
  15. So, sweet aficionados of the good old V-Combo 700, if you think it might be time to kick your outdated VR700 and buy some new cool stuff - think twice ... because - here's what you can do with the VR700 EDITOR what you weren't able to do with the VR700 before: * access the VR700 sounds and parameters in an easy way instead of cruel menu diving and number counting in the WDOAT (worst display of all times) * enjoy the Hammond style organ with 2 drawbar sets and (customizable) presets * use the lower keys of the VR700 to switch the organ presets like the big Hammonds * add additional effects to ensemble sounds like filter, ADR envelope, virbrato, special FX etc * freely assign a (normally hard wired) MFX=EFFECT out of 256 available to any ensemble sound and change multiple MFX parameters (like Roland VR760) * change the rhythm drum kit and customize the drum sound * use the proprietary EDITOR registration instead of the VR-Favorites with 2048 registrations, custom naming, saving of additional EFX (envelope, filter, extended rhythm controls, vibrato settings, foot switch, etc) * save your customized sounds (e.g. your modified pianos, enhanced strings etc) to the EDITOR single sound register * switch the VR-Favorites from the EDITOR * vice versa switch the EDITOR registrations from the VR700 using the favorite-buttons and/or the control foot pedal (limited to reg. 1-64) * switch the 2048 EDITOR registrations by external software or hardware controller * use the quick access footswitch configurator for live play * use the synthesizer work mode to customize ensemble sounds using the drawbars and GAIN+REVERB knobs as 'faders' for filters and envelope * use the enhanced EQUALIZER * reorder the favorites in your Favorite backup ("UPG") files with the 'UPG EDITOR' * play with the builtin sequencer (Windows only) and add programs to the external program launcher Project website: http://ctrlr.org/roland-vr700-v-combo-editor you can download the - EDITOR panel plugin for CTRLR-platform - a standlone EDITOR EXE for MS Windows - an interactive document (open zip-file) for your web browser those who installed the BETA version: you MUST delete the old registration file (V-Combo700.vreg) in your 'Documents'/CTRLR folder (see interactive doc for details) Some views of the EDITOR (there is more...) The main panels: http://ctrlr.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/VCombo700_kbd.png the organ with 2 drawbarset and presets: http://ctrlr.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/VCombo700_org2.png the 'synthesizer': 256 'free' MFX + parameters, filters and envelopes: http://ctrlr.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/VCombo700_syn.png
  16. Hey there err, no firmware upgrade (sorry guys), but a HOTFIX release 1.12.9 of V-Combo EDITR and SYNTH http://ctrlr.org/roland-vr09-vr730-v-combo-editor http://ctrlr.org/roland-vr09-vr730-v-combo-synth fixed bug: the DEL-button of the SYNTHESIZER registration deletes all registrations and editor settings
  17. @ Eric: thanks, I add this to my bug collection and check this when work on the VR700 editor is finshed f
  18. MS windows does not allow several applications to access the same Midi port. You have to use 'virtual' midi ports, e.g.: VR09-port => BOME => virt. port => Reaper AFAIR the pro version of Bome is shipped with virtual ports. For complex multiplexing, try (freeware) CopperLan: VR09-port => CopperLan => virt. port 1 => BOME ................................... => virt. port 2 => Reaper ................................... => virt. port 3 => ....
  19. add. info: TechnoToys Omega midi toolset (sequencer, arpeggiator, drumcomputer): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JQ0K48NLQVNNCCfN6zlMVpxNbDEJBEOp TT Omega is free for use (development was abandoned 10 year ago). Best midi software if you do not want to go VST. The ARP X8 is a mighty tool for playing realtime arpeggios on the VR (can be synched to VR-Tap-Tempo) The toolkit installs on Win10 and is stable without latency problems. The programs can be included to the Editors 'external program' lauchner

  21. great, I sent you a PM. Thanks a lot
  22. Hello somebody (David?) could do me a favor and test an editor-feature on Mac-OSX ?
  23. you mean when moving e.g. the 1"/cutoff fader we send a 'set cutoff back to 0' message back to fader? This does not work , the sound (cutoff) will jump back and forth. Some major aspects had been discussed in https://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2930444/112 - post #2930444 Switch both organ + synth on, mute the organ (level to 0) and use the drawbars and the drawbars sysEx they send to control other parameters, but the drawbar sysEx only have a value range of 0-8. Btw. in editor 1.12.8-yet-to-release the D-Beam can be set to (cutoff)-filter (+ other new parameters like rhythm fill in ... )
  24. > i need to assign, for example, parameters of OSC to assign on faders of the VR. That i can change the parameters from the VR in real time. Or to assign, for instance, poly/mono button on any buttons on the VR. this was discussed earlier, that's not possible, the faders and knobs of the VR are not programmable. Example: you could theoretically match the sysex of the 16" drawbar to an Osc parameter, but it will also change the ATTACK of the sound. > OR in any VST if i could assign anything there on the faders, knobs, buttons of my VR-09. to use the VR as a pure controller for a VST, you have to transform the SysEx from the VR to your VST input. If your DAW has no transformation module, BOME will be your friend.
