  1. "As They Made Us" with Dustin Hoffman. It shows some family dynamics involving a dysfunctional family as the patriarch becomes terminally ill. I am a sucker for these types of movies, especially as deals with aging issues as I am getting up there in years myself.
  2. While sitting up all night waiting for the launch of Artemis I (which was scrubbed due to engine issues), I was playing the "Moon Tunes" play list provided for launch parties and ran across this one which I had forgotten about and fell in love with again:
  3. Probably the recreational use of one is what inspired its design.
  4. It looks like a lot of fun. Since you mentioned a video, I thought I would go ahead and share one here: Oskar Sala - Live Konzert 1991
  5. Oskar Sala (July 18, 1910 to February 26, 2002) was the creator of a predecessor of the modern synthesizer with the Mixtur-Trautonium in 1948. This instrument played sounds that had never been playable before. You can read the Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oskar_Sala
  6. 1985 - Farfisa double key board combo organ (pass and ended up trading it a couple of years later due to limitation of sounds) 1986 - Arp Axxe (would keep and loved it but key-bed went to crap, so bought a second one and slaved them together but ended up trading later) 1987 - Arp Omni (pass and loved it but again had its limitations and got traded later on) 1988 - Korg MS-20 (pass and it also got traded due to the patch cord learning curve which drove me nuts) 1993 - Roland E-16 (still have it and still love it as it can do just about anything) 2015 - Micro-Korg (still have it and love it due to being light weight and easy to transport but keep it near my computer to play with other music) 2019 - Moog Little Phatty (still have it and need to explore it more since it has some interesting sounds the others do not have) The three I still have are keepers for me.
  7. I remember perusing malls in the 1980's and a little bit in the 1990's, but first hubby (guitar player) and I preferred to buy our gear directly from Mid City Music. I am not even sure if they exist any more. I got my Roland E-16 from an actual music store in Portland, Oregon, in 1993 (Christmas gift from my husband who just passed last year). I loved going in that store. When we went back for a visit to Portland in 2016, it was gone. My MicroKORG and Moog were purchased on line. There are no music stores in my town with the nearest ones being 100 miles away in Boise. The times surely do change and can be very sad indeed.
  8. I admit that I have at least one Android app that would be nicer to have on my P.C. I will do some checking with the others I mentioned just to make sure first. I wonder if Microsoft Paint, Windows Media Player and Windows Photo Viewer will stay as they are. Thank you!
  9. Just a couple of days ago as I was booting up my P.C. and a big splash screen came up asking me if I wanted to upgrade to 11. I declined the offer. I really do not use Microsoft Office or other apps. Even though I ran the compatability test a while ago to see if it would do well on my Inspiron machine, I do not believe it knows if it will work with my numerous third party programs including Apache Open Office, NCH audio and video editing software, Mixxx deejay software, Corel photo editing software, Sony at home and Nikon camera software, and so on just to name a few. The idea of having to reinstall and possibly have to pay for again all of those means a no go for me for updating. Interestingly, I do have a Windows 95 program running on 10. It is a little yellow sheep that walks around on your screen, goes to sleep and even falls down if he gets up too high. You can even get him from the Microsoft store: https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/esheep-64bit/9MX2V0TQT6RM?hl=en-us&gl=US
  10. I think I said on here before that I would sit at the church organ in the 1970's and play "Inagaddadavida" to the bewilderment of the reverend teaching me classes to be a youth minister. In the eighties, I jumped on the new wave train with Gary Numan being my biggest influence. In the nineties I branched out and played a variety of genres which included reggae, house, techno and even some sixties rock. Early 2000's came along and I was into the alternative rock sounds. I still find myself there but these days, I will hear a song that will reach out and grab me by the soul, wanting me to not only fill myself with it but to join in that fulfillment. More recent grabbers the last couple of years have been Nine Inch Nails, Bush, Whitesnake, Marilyn Manson, and my most recent needing to play a harmonizing string sound to "She's So High" by Tal Bachman. I guess for me it is less about left turns and more about an interesting and fascinating maze.
  11. I made some ring tones for a couple of people just using my digital mixer/recording software and saving as *.mp3. Two were for my comedy partner. One was a monkey screaming (Morpheus the mortified monkey was our mascot) and the other was Dawson saying, "Oh, yeah, oh, yeah". I am sure that one got some interesting reactions as to what was going on. The other was for another friend who had done paranormal/metaphysical shows with me and was a sound effects thing I created for the intro to the show we had done and my echoed voice saying, "Stand by for incoming multi-dimensional transmission". I used the last one on my old phone and forgot about it when I got this phone last year, so maybe I should load those on and use instead of the guitar riff one in the default list. I would look forward to being out in public when my phone rings and I get those looks from people going 'What the--?" 🤣
  12. I commend both performers who kept going on these videos. The singer helping the key board player recover with such pizazz and the boy who simply saluted the flag in a very patriotic way. I doubt I would have had the creativity or the impetus to continue after either a failed stand or broken cymbal. Way to go to both!
  13. A tree fell in the forest but no one was there to hear it.
  14. We never had a piano, but I would tinker around on one if alone at school, and even the church pipe organ (I recall waiting for the minister to take classes and playing "Inagaddadavida" on it) at 16 years of age. My mother had two very interesting instruments, one a Stylophone and one an autoharp. Much later in 1985 I would happen on a Farfisa combo organ and that was my first keys I owned which would lead to a variety of various synths afterwards. My first piano belonged to the school, however, and I accompanied the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for their Christmas play on it at 16 and will always remember that as where I actually started.
  15. Lindaru came from a Star Trek forum in the late nineties I had belonged to. I needed an extra-terrestrial sounding name, so I did Linda+Ruth-th (my first and middle names). The avatar started in 2015 when I teamed up with a fellow comedian I had done cable access comedy with on a Portland, Oregon, television station. The head-phones on the smiley are because that was how I always was with my husband in the next room, trying to keep him from being disturbed while I either played music on my key-boards or listened and/or watched things on line, or produced our comedy shows on Spreaker. Smiley for comedy, head-phones for being respectful to hubby who passed in January 2021 (RIP). I just keep doing things with my head-phones on to this day even though there is no one in the next room to disturb except maybe some crickets. 🤣 Our Spreaker comedy is Awesome Insanity Surfers, so I am also known as that or just Insanity Surfers in other on line locations.
  16. This thread reminded me that my real world synths needed some care and love, so I was up until 5:00 a.m. playing my MicroKORG with gusto, standing, grooving, doing stuff that my Magix Music Maker while seated in one position, could not do for my soul nor my body. Thank you for this. Sometimes we need to be reminded that the old days and the old ways are what got us to where we are now. The only thing 8 bit does for me is remind me of going to video game arcades.
  17. My Facebook has been from the Twilight Zone since yesterday. Went into my group for classifieds and events in my county and only the posts from eight years ago showed up. Refreshed, restarted, still same thing. It straightened out yesterday afternoon, but then nothing would load other places on Facebook. Also, I would click another link from my bookmarks and instead of going where it was supposed to go, it would go to Facebook. When I backed out and looked at my bookmarks, the favicon for the site was Facebook. I would click on the link again and this time everything would be fine and the favicon would revert back to what it was supposed to be. Also, I have BitDefender A.V. and occasionally it would tell me Facebook was not safe since it was not "https". I have the latest Chrome browser on a Dell P.C. running Windows 10. 😵
  18. All this and a nano-riff of "Chopsticks".
  19. Then there are the collectors editions only available in certain places around the world such as BA.3, BA.4, BA.5, XF and XD. The "XD" version is quite laughable, really.
  20. I have heard this model can cause problems with power due to "spiking". Hopefully it does not "catch on".
  21. I got an E-Mail, too, and am back. See some names I recognize and looking forward to meeting ones I do not! I am 65 now. Sheesh. Time sure flies! Also, trying to figure out how to edit the signature line that says "This account is closed".
  22. Happy belated and make the whole month yours! 🍻🎂
