  1. Looks like some version of a table stand, but I don't recognize it and I've looked at every stand that I can find online. I'd like to know what it is.
  2. The Niners are the only team with a 3-0 record. Sure there are several other teams that are 2-0 and the Niners are the only team to win 3 games because they played last night on Thursday Night Football, but still ... Yeah, it matters who's still playing well and without injuries late in the season. But as a 49er faithful, I'm sure enjoying the start of the season so far ... Purdy was described by one commentator last night as playing a very "pedestrian" game "for a good quarterback." I'll take pedestrian for the win. And there's also McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle. Brandon Aiyuk was out with a shoulder injury last night. I hope he's back soon because he made some excellent plays and 2 TD's against the Steelers. There's some good players and play-makers on this year's team.
  3. I've always said good musicians can play at low volume. If you can't play at low volume, you're not very good and you need to learn to play your instrument better. I'm in 2 regularly rehearsing and gigging bands. Both bands rehearse at low volume. At last night's rehearsal, we talked about starting this Sunday's afternoon gig at low volume so by 3rd set volume creep will get us up to party volume, but not ear-hurting. Every time we play at low volume, we notice that we play better. Pros can play at low volume and play well; amateurs can't.
  4. I don't load in that much gear for a gig, but I do add $10,000 of value to my 17-year-old Camry Hybrid
  5. 49ers are 3-0. But hey, pay no attention to Mr. Irrelevant ... nothing happening there
  6. Sitting in a car on break at a gig, sharing a "smoke" with the drummer .... I forgot where I was going with this ...
  7. Ok. Performers should not diss other performers. Musicians, singers, actors, dancers, comedians should not diss other musicians, singers, actors, dancers, comedians. Other creative people - artists, writers, directors - should not diss other creative people.
  8. I'm biting my tongue. It's wrong to say anything negative about videos of another musician's performance? I can't go for that.
  9. Apologies for going off topic but I just had to say that when I see Stage 4 in a subject line, I think terminal cancer diagnosis. I guess I've seen too much of that. Carry on ....
  10. These terms are new to me. Can anyone explain east coast vs. west coast synthesis?
  11. Your old digital keyboard that doesn't exactly work perfectly is not worth much. But your old tube amp that doesn't work at all might be worth a lot.
  12. I use the Vox voice on my Electro for that vintage cheezy organ sound. There's a Farfisa voice but it doesn't sound right. When I use the Vox sound, my band members call it the Farfisa sound.
  13. I wuz gonna say - they don't even get the signature riff right in Day Tripper.
  14. I completely agree with Tim Wat. (I think that often happens.) I use my pair of old K8's for stereo keys. They're on short stands. I don't usually go to PA. I mostly play in small clubs with audience size less than 100. Even when I've gone direct to FOH in larger venues, I still use the stereo pair of speakers on stage to be heard how I'm usually heard to myself and other band members. Only once has FOH sound engineer asked me to turn my speakers to face me because he didn't want to get anything coming from the speakers in his mix, he only wanted the direct sound. I've been playing with my pair of QSC's as the only amplification for keys for several years now. I'm happy with it. I also double on sax and that goes to the PA with a wireless mic.
  15. I'm sorry CowboyNQ but I'm with the bar manager on this one. If it really was whiskey in the bottle, what you did was illegal. If it's a stage prop with tea in it, it's still a problem because you're leading your audience to believe that you're drinking real whiskey from the bottle (that you brought in). You're doing something to make the audience think that you're doing something illegal (though you aren't). In decades of gigging bars, I've seen everything. I saw a bar owner go ballistic when he discovered that the drummer in the band I was in was drinking something he brought in himself. The bar owner said he could lose his license. That band would never play there again. I would have told you to stop right away - it doesn't matter what's actually in the bottle - you have to stop. If you don't stop, you're outta here.
  16. Thanks for that. Brian Augur is one of my musical heroes.
  17. I tried Stockholm at 2 gigs so far. Generally, I don't prefer any of the Rhodes-type EPs. I'm a Wurly guy. I liked the Stockholm when I tried it at home through speakers. It has some nice improvements over Nefertiti. It barks a little more when pushed, and I can hear more bell tones when played softly. But - and it's a critical but - at the gigs it just doesn't cut through like the Wurly does and I found myself turning the knob to go back to my Wurly sound. It has more of an edge and cuts through better, and it barks when pushed. This is my personal taste, your live playing situation and gear/sound system/band may make a big difference. BTW, I also finally got around to loading the White Grand which I really like. I turned on the string resonance and the long release, which were fun to play at home, but at the gigs I discovered that those effects made the piano more muddy, less definite in the band mix so I turned them off and stored it that way. It's much clearer and crisper, especially for banging on those rockin' piano 8th notes and triplets. For reference: I'm playing old blues/rock/R&B with guitar, bass, harp, drums, and I double on keys & sax. 4 of the 5 on vocals.
  18. 2 of the best sound engineers I have ever had the pleasure to work with have been women. Yes, they are few and far between in the sound engineer world. Maybe they have to be so much better than men in order to get the gig. When you're working with a sound person who really knows what they're doing, you know it right away and it's very satisfying, very confidence-building in your own musical efforts.
  19. Few years ago, my band did a killer set at a festival. There's video, can't wait to see it. Looking forward to using a clip for promo. My keys are set up with 2 speakers behind me so everybody on stage can hear me. Sound company is pro outfit, paid a lot of money to run sound for the main stage for 2 days of festival. We get the video a few days later. I crank it up to enjoy the good show we did. There are NO keys in the video. No sound from keys whatsoever. None at all. How can that be? We heard it on stage. But no, the sound company did not have keys at all in the mains so no keys in the video.
  20. Old joke: Q. What do you call a guitar player without a girlfriend? A. Homeless.
  21. Good point. Not a battle of the bands. And you have to pay $75 for them to look at your video? It's even worse than I thought. I have a friend who likes to call me up to go for an In-And-Out burger. It's her favorite treat. I'm going to have a hard time with that the next time she calls. And the article says "the Slave 2 Nothing Foundation, an organization set up by Snyder-Ellingson and her husband Sean Ellingson to combat human trafficking and addiction." How the feck does this org combat human trafficking? I won't even bother to look it up to find out what their programs are and how much of the donations go for "administration." The more I look at it, the more squirrelly it becomes. I don't think I want to support more grifters and exploiters.
  22. The last time I was in a battle of the bands, it was 60 years ago. There were a lot of local bands. My band came in 1st place - but tied with my younger brother's band. I don't remember what the prize was.
  23. I had a Wurly in the early 70's. Don't remember the model anymore. Loved that thing. Lost it in the divorce. I'm sure she never appreciated what she had. Probably ended up on the scrap heap. Such a shame. But I love the Wurly sound in my Nord 5D. Not perfect, but satisfying. I use it all the time instead of Rhodes sound. Have to load in the new Stockholm Rhodes sound though. Might finally be on a par with Wurly for vintage sound.
