  1. My 5D came with 3 discs of sample library, 1 is grand pianos (incl. Silver Grand), 2 is uprights, harpsichords, elec pianos, clavinet, synth pianos, 3 is Mellotron, Chamberlin, Fairlight, and chinese orchestra (!). Discs are dated Feb. 2016. I'm going to be playing in the mud for quite some time.
  2. My Nord Electro 5D arrived yesterday. Man, I love the sounds in this thing. But there's a long learning curve. It's a computer with a keyboard attached. There goes my weekend... Oh, and thanks to Dave Weiser for a good deal. I found him here on KC. You can find him at weiserdav@gmail.com
  3. Had one in the 70's. Lost it in the divorce. Still miss it. Not her.
  4. Today I finally pulled the trigger on Nord Electro 5D 61.
  5. Marriages are like pancakes. You throw the first one away. But seriously folks, getting divorced was the hardest and most painful thing I've ever been through because there were 2 young kids involved. I got severely depressed and went crazy for a while. But I got through it and my life since has been wonderful. I met the right woman, we lived together for many years and we married a year ago on Halloween (for financial reasons mostly we're old now). I ended up with very good relationships with my kids as they got older. I never badmouthed their mother to them, but I sure did away from them. I now have 6 grandkids and a good relationship with all of them. When I was dating my ex-wife I was a young rock 'n' roller playing in a successful band. She kept all my gigs on her calendar which she called her "shit list." That should have been a clue right there, but I was young and dumb. My lady now completely supports my music - I'm playing in several bands and sometimes rehearsals are every night of the week and sometimes weekend afternoons. She may raise an eyebrow when I'm gone several nights in a row but she never even suggests that I not do as much music as I'm doing. That's the lady for me. Another thought: my parents stayed together for the sake of "the family." They probably shouldn't have, but it was an earlier time.
  6. This. Everyone's going to have headphones on anyway. Aren't they? If not ... recording trainwreck.
  7. paying off remodel, 4 new tires, new crown at the dentist, property tax, quarterly tax payment ... maybe SS by Xmas. Waiting for the checks to come in ...
  8. I'd be interested in answers to this question. Also, if you use a sub, are you playing LH bass? Are you using a sub when there's a bass player? Are you using a sub in larger group (5, 6, or more players)? In small clubs or large venues?
  9. http://www.alesis.com/multimix6fx does not have 3 band eq You're right, I'm wrong. I was looking at the wrong one. But Musicians Friend says this model is not available. And some of the reviews say it craps out, don't buy it. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/alesis-multimix-6fx-mixer
  10. That's a tall or ... er ... small order. Good luck with that.
  11. Maybe a better one Mackie ProFX4v2 4-Channel Professional FX Mixer http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VUU702A?psc=1
  12. Yamaha MG82CX 8 Input Stereo Mixer with Digital Effects http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z7567A/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 only drawback: small size is accomplished with wall wart
  13. I live right on the ocean in a town just south of San Francisco. The city engineer once called it the most corrosive environment on earth. Everything metal rusts - stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, everything. It's not just the salt in the air, it's also the crud in the air that glues the salt to your precious instruments. I keep my gear in closets. I can't leave my saxes set up out in the open like other players. It's only a matter of time that the corrosion builds up on them anyway and I have to have my tech remove as much as he can. The only gear I leave set up in my house is the cheap Casio WK-6600 keyboard for working out tunes.
  14. Sax is an alto, not tenor. No big deal, important only to us sax players.
  15. Yeah, I was stunned at the price of the QuikLok stand now. I bought mine 5 years ago. I think they were $19 each, which is why I got them. The Gator stand looks like a much better deal at current asking prices.
  16. The Standback does not lift the amp/speaker up off the floor. Maybe that's what you want - the side speaker firing direct at the close floor. I'd be interested to know what people think about this. Do you want it very close to the floor or other reflective surface, or do you want the floor to be a foot or more away? Do you think it would work well on this QuikLok speaker stand? http://www.amazon.com/QuikLok-BS-313-Speaker-Stand-Black/dp/B003R7KU3K I use a pair of these stands to get my QSC's up off the floor and tilted back. I got mine a few years ago for about 1/3 the price they're asking now on Amazon.
  17. I use 2 of these to put my QSC's on. I guess I'm already set. All I need now is the SS.
  18. yes, that's why I want to put sax thru mixer - add a touch of 'verb. I don't like to put sax or keys thru PA for small venues. Just vocals in PA. But I want to simplify rig to horn + Nord + mixer + SS3. Sounds like a plan.
  19. Do other people run thru a mixer to SS3? I double on sax & keyboard. I like to run both thru Mackie mixer and out to QSC powered speakers. I want to get SS3. Will it work to run sax and keys into mixer and out to SS3? What will happen to volume, tone, etc.? This is my 1st post in this forum. I just found it when searching for info on SS3.
