  1. Random trip down Bonnie Raitt rabbit hole. Great Live jam from 1972 radio station gig. Of course her famous “I can’t make you love me” songwriters song. It’s amazing how far BR’s singing pocket is behind the beat. Tough to do that and have it sound perfect.
  2. Winston-Salem, NC area. (Originally Philadelphia)
  3. I’ll say upfront that Sylva album has favored status for me. The things I like about “The Curtain” specifically and chronologically are: In general I find it to be one of Snarky Puppy’s more melodic instrumental tunes. The flugel horn solo in the beginning is sweet and tasteful Rhythmic and melodic themes carry through the piece Michael League’s bass under the flugel horn is very expressive. His bass solo is unique and has a cool sound. There is an evolution of mood over the piece that, to me, is purposeful and effective The Moog parts blend well and Cory’s solo is actually quite good for a mouse noodler. Rare actually for mice on synth parts. I particularly like how he peaks as the band reenters. (Try generating your own Moog solo for that spot). The piano solo gets me in the feels every time- one of those just right kind of solos. Nice how the bass guitar slides in and then the Moog parts weaving in the background. Eventually the Moogs help bring the solo to an end. The long pause after the piano solo is like catching your breath. The orchestral ending, again, to me, is just right and I’m left taking some time after the song to think and breathe. So, I get it. Don’t expect everyone else to react the same way. I think it would be a really hard tune to solo on, blending in to the whole while shining some yourself.
  4. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hang in there through this tough time.
  5. I’m really enjoying this album. Must have been a stunning show live.
  6. Bluetooth mouse, trackpad, or keyboard?
  7. Really like James Francies’ tasteful playing here.
  8. Just to add to the Colossus demo question, here is the company’s website with demos. Not the same as playing it yourself but better than nothing: https://crudebyte.com/mobile/colossus-piano/
  9. I find the Colossus most appealing for solo piano, whether Jazz or Classical. I’ve only downloaded the largest piano, so I can’t contribute to the discussion about the other models available for download. I’ve not found a demo mode for other models. I would choose Ravenscroft for jack of all (most) trades piano on the iPad.
  10. Here are two more recent covers illustrating the common approach: David Gilmour 2016 and Sons of Apollo. As I’ve played in the past, note the light strumming guitar WAY back in the mix with the symphonic string lines and brass tones comprising the main mid range mix. Both Gilmour and Sons of Apollo could be guitar heavy throughout but come to the same musical conclusion. It ruins the magnitude of the guitar solo parts if the lighter sections aren’t,,, light. Another key to fullness for this tune is bass tone and lock of the bass drum and bass. Guitar that is up in the mix throughout also turns this tune into a plodding monotone vibe IMO.
  11. I’m short on advice, but I hope you find yourself in a group with positive energy that nourishes your musical soul.
  12. Yeah those lyrics… Hammond part like that has to be just right, and it is.
  13. Nice. It looks like Andrew Aarons has PhD focusing on the mechanical aspects of keyboard instruments. He lends a unique perspective on piano performance firmly grounded in the mechanics of the instrument. Wish he had more content, but enjoyed what he has contributed.
  14. Sonic EXtensions for Omnisphere: Sonic EXtensions
  15. Recently bought this one from Caddy Buddy: Caddy buddy iPad holder What I like about it: no fuss popping the iPad Pro with case on and off. Sturdy. Comes with a variety of mounting hardware. Right now I"m using it screwed on the top of a mic stand but it could mount to boom arm end or side. I"ve only been using it for about a month so no long term follow-up
  16. She lived a full life but it is never easy. I"m so sorry for your loss. My Mom also supported my music career and bought my C7 by taking out a loan in the 80"s, walking with a fist of hard earned money to the local bank every month until paid off. It"s been a while since she passed but I still get choked up at random moments, particularly around the piano. My thoughts are with you.
