I have been quite happy with Yamaha HS8"s with the HS8S sub for my living room setup. It is loud and full enough sound to match volume with my grand piano. The array of Kronos sounds are well served by the setup. Of course monitor stands would be necessary.

Thanks Biggles. I noticed that the Flowkey app assesses what notes the student is playing. I assume that requires an electronic keyboard connected to the device via Bluetooth, usb, etc. rather than audio. Is that correct?

Looking for recommendation for online piano lessons for a beginner adult. I have a friend, ~45 yo, in another state that wants to learn to play piano. He has a very unpredictable and lengthy work schedule that makes scheduled lessons difficult. He wants to try an internet based asynchronous program. He has the ability to read music, but I don"t know the baseline past there. I believe he has a maintained piano. Recognizing that in-person lessons or synchronous online lessons are most certainly more effective, can anyone recommend an online program? For example, has anyone tried a program they liked? I have Svengled, with results such as :Musicradar best online piano lessons I am looking for first hand experience or first hand evaluation. Thanks

I remember how much influence NP had on me and my musician friends growing up. He was so amazing that he could energize a young musician to achieve. So many perfect drum licks- see YYZ and more. One of the challenges for a musician is to generate a sphere of influence through music. For me, NP consistently reached out through music to rock, amaze, and inspire. There are others, but the list is short. I remember attending Rush concerts waiting for the solo, and then it came and was everything I could have wanted. I am very thankful that NP brought his talents to the world and I got a chance to experience it. RIP.

Pan-above. I was introduced to Vulfpeck casually after hearing them on the Sirius-XM Jam-on channel. Radio stuff struck me as pretty good so I added them to my Spotify artists. Bottom line, I was a casual listener. This concert, though, is complete bonkers. Thanks to James for highlighting. I listened to the concert straight-through which is not an easy feat for a 1.5 hr YouTube live video. It boggles my mind when a band can reach past all of the barriers (asynchronous, setting, sound, video, display device, etc.) and connect with a YouTube audience. So many cool moments that I am keen to highlight, but it turns out it would be way too many comments. What crowd sings a 'G" tone on cue? Maybe that"s a usual audience game for their followers. Don"t want to name it my favorite full concert live video but it now makes the list. Interestingly, the YouTube commentariat actually had a lot of positive and spot on things to say. That almostnever happens.

Blown away. Tiny desk concerts are a gift as it stands. This was a great venue for him. I"ve been following him for years and enjoy him more as time passes. This performance had so much complexity for a largely acoustic soft set. Amazing components of Rhythm, vocals (range, control, blending), volume control, floating lyrics on a changing landscape of voicing, and more. Thanks for the heads up.

Interestingly, the author delves into nearly every point of contention on this thread, albeit in a less charged way. Give it a read! The book does require some patience (me- thats crap; ok let me keep reading) Pause, think , reflect: its that kind of book.

Appears to be an interesting read. I read the first bits so far and will complete out of interest. I already disagree with a number of assertions in the book, but that's cool! It gets me thinking about my views and why I hold those views. After a certain age, I have been fascinated with the big questions about music. One of the aspects of this forum that I like is that we are all passionate about music (I think). Some of my favorite discussions in life have involved arguing the relative merits of an artist or music. I love that the validity of music is impossible to define yet worthy of countless passionate opinions.

Now that you say it... same here. Our dogs all reliably gather around the piano. They dont always convene around me otherwise. The electronic stuff is not an attractant. I have wondered if they can connect musically, like the sounds, or just feed on the vibe.

Re:needing unbalanced sub input: I'd pick the sub or bass amp based on sound and portability. I bought trs-xlr and xlr-trs cables for my setup (Zxa1 sub). The cables weren't very pricey and work even though ss uses ts.

The roli rise 49 might be my 2016 namm GAS item. I think it could be used in a number of live settings (admittedly, the Grammy's haven't been calling lately). I downloaded the iPad app "Noise". Obviously, the app has different tactile prompts and size, but I think one challenge with all of the sliding and moving is that the muscle groups are different than a standard keyboard. Fingering also changes. I can feel the effects of the lateral forces in my fingers. Have you noticed this in use of the Roli John?

IMO, the canvas cover would serve as scratch protection but not knob/grill ding protection. I don't know what you do for moving processes or frequency, so speaking to adequacy is difficult. I wouldn't be comfortable with just the canvas but I can see how it could work just fine with care. I went with the skb case which fits like a glove and has reinforced sides. For me others will be helping to carry and/or loading so the case is an extra layer of protection.
