  1. I bought a non-music item from a retailer across the country. Got an alert 10 days ago that it had shipped via FedEx. Initially, the indication was that it would be delivered Friday. It wasn't delivered and now the tracking info just says "no delivery date" and "pending." No idea what conclusions to draw from this.
  2. Is there any chance this thing actually works? One of the rare times I've seen a posting for an item that isn't 1000 miles away from me.
  3. I too will occasionally browse my local CL. My dream is that I will find the equivalent of the little old lady selling a car that she only drove to town once a month but for whatever reason has decided it's time to let it go. I think CL is a valuable resource. Certainly, most items/deals are not worthwhile and/or sketchy, but there are also plenty of legit sellers out there. I just haven't yet found a local little old lady who needs to get rid of a B3 or vintage Leslie. But I'll keep looking, Incidentally, I've spent less time looking at Reverb. But seems like there is less inventory there, at least for the east coast.
  4. I use Google drive a lot actually, and am afraid to take a look and figure out the changes. I assume they are annoying, unnecessary and will make everything worse.
  5. I hadn't considered the Motion Sound Pro, but guess I have to now. Just when I thought I had narrowed down my options .....
  6. Years ago, when I was researching the SS, I came across some advice Aspen posted somewhere, perhaps on his website (or perhaps even here). My takeaway was that it was simpler, if not better, to put SS after the subwoofer. Since then, I never tried it the other way, but perhaps I should. Anyway, this was the Q and A I copied: "I just picked up a Behringer B1200D-Pro subwoofer for use with the Spacestation v3. I"m guessing the best setup with the subwoofer is to run into the sub and out from the sub to the Spacestation. Would you foresee any issues with using a balanced XLR to 1/4' cable for the sub outs to Spacestation inputs? ⢠Yes, it would be the obvious path to run KB-B1200-SS3, and make use of the hi pass filter...and there should be no problem for the 1/4-XLR cables...short ones like 3' are perfect and the TRS works as well as a TS on the 1/4" side. However, in my studio and on a few gigs I have used the B1200 run out of the SS3 sub output with just one cable â KB -> (mixer-optional)>SS3 -> B1200. For extremely loud gigs, the opposite way may prove the better way but for medium SPL gigs I do not think the SS3 suffers from getting a full range signal. Also I think too much sub can be a bad thing⦠so be careful to keep it (the hi pass filter) under 125Hz tops, even better may be 80-100Hz and also not too much level (just enough to feel it). When I run the sub after the SS3 it"s easy to plug and unplug the sub and judge the difference. Basically, it"s just the under 100Hz LF that needs support. But if you have a bass player in the band you may find yourself leaving the sub home for those smaller gigs. Although, I prefer bringing the sub and just keeping it 'low', it just sounds better to me. This also allows me to elevate the SS3 which can be a good thing, but be careful not to listen to it 'on axis' or you will probably be mixing the Width too high⦠listen to it off axis is possible. Some users are even putting it on an amp stand sideways so the side speaker bounces off the floor. This gives some nice bloom in close quarters."
  7. Yeah, I've gone back and forth about the 2101. It is under consideration.
  8. Guess you're right, Lou, I just don't know if the difference would be noticeable to my ears. I'm assuming that the Studio 12, with a "dry" bass through the Behringer, would be superior (i.e, more authentic sounding and closer to a 147/122) to my Space Station/Behringer set-up now. Just an assumption, obviously.
  9. Rereading past threads and reviews elsewhere regarding the Leslie Studio 12, seems like many like the sound but some question whether there is sufficient bass if one is playing LH bass in a jazz organ context. My current chain is Mojo - small Yamaha mixer - Space Station - Behringer subwoofer B1200-D. Apparently, the Studio 12 does NOT have a subwoofer out option. But is there any reason I couldn't do the following? Mojo - mixer- Behringer subwoofer - Studio 12. Seems like this would be viable option, but perhaps I'm overlooking something. I've never heard the Studio 12 first-hand, fwiw.
  10. I have one of the Rock n Roll carts, but love the way this model folds up so nicely. Think I might get the larger version.
  11. I am considering, again, purchasing a set of MIDI bass-pedals for my Mojo. Just looking for some recommendations. And I guess I'm asking two question: First, considering that I am inexperienced at using pedals -- having always relied on playing bass lines entirely with left hand - what would be an appropriate number of notes/scales to start with? Crumar sells a 13-note set. Other manufacturers sell 17 notes, 20, 25. My inclination is to purchase the smallest set, both because of the price and because I don't know how I'll enjoy using pedals. But I don't want to buy a 13-note set just to find out in a year that a larger set would be preferred. Second, aside from size, any views about best particular models and manufacturers?
  12. I did get clarification from Crumar as to my model - consistent with what Moe said. And now I'm waiting for my foot switch to arrive. But I will see if I can figure out how to order a replacement internal switch too. Thanks
  13. Do you mean you swapped the half-moon for a new one, or switched something inside?
  14. Just using this thread to comment about my general experience listening to Oscar. I first started listening to Oscar when I was a young teenager. It so happened that coincided with the general period when he was recording on Pablo, often with other "all-stars" in big stages, as opposed to small clubs. As a kid, I was amazed at his proficiency. But I think those settings may have brought out the worst of him, as if he was playing to the crowd (if you get my meaning). I soon bored of those albums and got deep into Bill Evans, Herbie, Wynton, Sonny Clark, etc. For many years after, I never returned to Oscar Peterson. But eventually, I discovered his more classic trio albums, from the 1950s and early 1960s. These albums were a revelation to me. I realized that Oscar was very tasteful and could play very pretty too. He's still not my favorite, but I appreciate him a lot more now than when I was only familiar with his later output from the 1970s and 1980s.
  15. I'm thinking of just purchasing a rotary foot switch to replace the half-moon. Always been kind of curious whether I'd prefer controlling the Leslie that way anyway. But I realize I can't even be sure what model Mojo I have. It was purchased new in 2016. Is this now considered the "classic"? I need to figure this out because there are different switches available for different models. I have sent an email to Crumar, but mentioning it here in case anyone happens to know.
  16. This possibility excited me for a moment, but I made sure to reboot as directed and problem was still there. Maybe I'll try opening up the half-moon switch and see if anything looks loose.
  17. File this under the "gear confusing me" category. My Crumar Mojo is about 5 years old. Bought it new with half-moon switch. Always worked fine. This week, the Leslie effect was acting up. Sometimes only worked at slow speed. Sometimes not at all. I disconnected the half-moon, but problem didn't go away. I did not reboot the keyboard, though. Later, rebooted keyboard and everything worked. Until it didn't. I then made a "cleaner" attempt to see if disconnecting the half-moon matter. I unplugged it and was sure to reboot the organ. Presto, the Leslie was working. Then, I found a generic 1/4 inch cord, plugged the half-moon back, and it seemed to work fine. So, now I was assuming it was just the cord that went bad. Then, I go to Sam Ash to pick up a shorter cord, with the angled ends (like the cord that came with the half-moon switch originally). Took it home and was disappointed to find that the Leslie didn't work. Then, I plugged back the longer cord that was working earlier in the day. Oddly, this time that cord didn't work either. Finally, I unplugged the half-moon once more. And once again, the Leslie resumed working. So, I guess I should assume at this point that the half-moon switch needs replacing? Or maybe now I just break down and get myself some MIDI keyboard (with a leslie switch on it). Mostly, I'm just confused. Thanks for reading, Feel free to comment.
  18. Since I created a rehearsal room in my house, I've usually had my Yamaha CP4 set up (along with other keyboards). But over the past couple of years, I've never used the CP4 at home; it's become purely a gigging keyboard. So, I'm thinking of giving it a permanent space in my garage, thereby saving me some effort when it comes to move it to the car for gigs. I live in a safe suburb, and the garage door always remains closed. I'm really not concerned about the risk of theft. Only potential problem I foresee is the impact of temperature. In the dead of winter, the temp in the garage probably is in the 40s. Could exposing the CP4 -- albeit in a soft case - cause some kind of damage over the long-run?
  19. A few years ago, when I was shopping for a grand piano, I think I came across a similar sounding scam. I didn't even take a nibble, I'm proud to say, but I've definitely fallen prey in the past. It's almost a rite of passage nowadays.
  20. This whole process is incredibly, and predictably, random. Through an on-line health care portal we enrolled in through our family doctor, my wife and I received "invitations" to make an appointment for the vaccine about 2 weeks ago. I immediately followed the links and found a health care facility that was a 5 minute drive away. Got an appointment for a Moderna shot there the very next day. Maybe this particular facility just happened to start taking appointments then. No idea. Anyway, I had no side-effects, not even a sore shoulder. The shingles vaccine I received earlier in the year, on the other hand, made my arm sore and I felt feverish for a day.
  21. I'm not even sure that this method would be particularly inexpensive. But the science is interesting.
  22. Scales are great. And I say that as someone with very poor, inconsistent practice habits. I'll go weeks or months without practicing scales, but when I return to them, my playing always feels so much sharper. One aside: when practicing scales, I recommend playing as triplets. I find helps to force one to play more evenly (or at least makes flaws and inconsistencies more apparent),
  23. My closest friends in high school became professional musicians, primarily playing jazz. I considered myself basically on their level of competence at the time, but I didn't think I had the single-minded, obsessive interest in music which I assumed was necessary to make it a career. So I became a lawyer. This was not some kind of consolation. I genuinely thought I would have more success and be better-suited at law. In retrospect, I have no idea whether this reasoning was correct. For a while, I was able to keep playing music while juggling work. But I often found myself in somewhat of an awkward place, not really fitting in with the musicians available/willing to play with me. And I knew that my old friends would have progressed far beyond my abilities. Then I went into a kind of a musical hibernation. While my kids were small, I just couldn't find the time to do everything. Finally, once the kids reached high school and college, I decided to do whatever I could to find the best musicians I could play with. This was somewhat of a slow process. I began playing with anyone who needed a keyboardist of any style. But after a few years, I finally got into rotation of really fine jazz musicians. I didn't feel nearly as accomplished as them, but at least good enough so that they were willing to include me. I And now we get to the somewhat ironic point: many jazz musicians I now play with are at a similar place as I am, insofar as they turned to full-time day jobs to pay the rent, while playing jazz on the side. This includes some of my friends from high school. But my circle also includes many full-time pros, some of whom have had some fairly prominent gigs. We have frequent sessions and occasional gigs. I guess the lesson is that, people can start out at different points, and end up at roughly the same place. It's nice to speculate how far I would have gone musically had I really made it my primary focus, but I'm just happy I've landed at a place where music is fully in my life/
  24. Can you I'd even settle for identifying where the samples mentioned appear in the tune. For example, in what part of the tune should we be able to hear a sample from "Mannish boy?" My interest in this topic is as much as an exercise in ear-training as anything else. Maybe the samples are layered on top of each other to the point where it's really not that easy to single them out?
