  1. Please forgive my naïveté about synths but I've never been a big synth guy as far as playing them. Was the Oberheim really used on all those tunes demoed in this video?

Absolutely not. They"re trying to show how well it can cop some famous sounds.

Take 'On The Run' for example. The sound is close, but the arp is not. It"s actually a sequence with a couple little turns in it. Did the OB even exist when Pink Floyd recorded that?

  2. I"ve been on the fence about purchasing a Roli for a while. I was gonna start a thread looking for opinions/reviews since I know there"s a least a few players here that own one. Maybe you guys could answer some questions?

    Is the software/synth a usable/unique-sounding sound source?

Is the board a usable controller for other things? You ever use a standard keyboard sound with it? Ever map out another synth (Omnisphere?) to work with Roli"s MPE capabilities?

Are you glad you bought it?

Do you wish you got the 49-key instead?

    Thanks.

  3. Antoine is one talented MoFo. Really enjoyed that video - awe inspiring. Love his (and Trevor"s) guitar tone over Steve"s. All monster players, but Mr. Howe can crack your eyeballs sometimes. Treble galore.

'Talk' is almost the forgotten Yes album. I like it a lot. When I joined Spotify, they didn"t even it in the Yes catalog. A bazillion live albums, but no Talk.

  4. If you are using a PX5s to play the Electro"s pianos - excellent choice.

However, the PX has AP of its own that is kind of dated. And no usable organs (except Farfisa). Nice Rhodes and Wurlies. Alright Clavs. An unusual sounding synth. Not very good rompler stuff (guitars,strings,orch.instr.,etc)

I"m not really raggin on the PX5 - I used one for gigging from 2013 til late last year when I quit gigging. But the last couple years it was a controller for my Nord stage 90% of the time. Great piano-feeling board. 24 lbs! Still have it setup in my 'studio'.

I"d say it depends what sounds your looking to get out of your second board, and what sounds you"re looking to control out of your Electro (ifany).

Maybe a newer Casio? Can"t go wrong with a used Yamaha, depending on model/price/keybed. Ixnay on the omekray.

  5. Agree w/Samuel

I think any of the big names - Logic Cubase DP ProTools etc. - will take you very deep with excellent results.

I would recommend you watch some how-to videos just to see what GUI strikes your fancy. Visit some forums to see what people are bitching about - keeping in mind that bitching on forums probably represents a small fraction of users.

Are you on Catalina? Even Apple"s own Logic has problems with Catalina.

In the 90s I was using Vision software. Loved it. Gibson killed it. I went with Emagic/Logic cause I liked the way it looked! Never sorry.

  6. Giorgi Mikadze: Georgian Microjamz, newly out on RareNoise. Imagine Mahavishnu Orchestra jamming with the Bulgarian Women's Choir. The microtonal tunings seem really shocking on first listen, but by the end of the album seem almost normal. About half of my muso friends that I've played this for have absolutely hated it, so I'm not expecting a much better response here, but I'm loving this.

I"m not sure if my ears would ever get used to this.

Not gonna say I hated it, but maybe I should just leave it alone.

    Thanks for something different, tho.
