I know a few of you already mentioned this flick, but you MUST buy/rent/stream...
The Adventures of Buckeroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension

Maybe some people are happy being critical and see themselves as providing a service.
'Yeah, this new board seems cool, but let me tell you what sucks.....'
You can"t tell a person"s state-of-mind behind their posts.
So, the original question is two-part:
1- Are keyboard players unhappy? No, I don"t think so. Maybe gigging musicians in general are unhappy right now.
2 - Are keyboard players people? Yes.

Can"t help but wonder if he"s in God"s recording studio or inside Satan"s bagpipes.

I once worked with a second keys player. He was a 'utility' player - voice, keys, sax, & percussion. I really looked forward to it in the beginning, but it soon showed to be a horrible situation. He turned out to be multi-untalented. Not in the self effacing joke way of Timwat, but truly multi-untalented.

I really enjoyed Mr. Fonfara"s playing. Apricot Brandy was a big song in my youth. The Rhinoceros album pictured above has a great version of I Don"t Want To Discuss It, thanks to his playing. I also have an album 2B3 with him on it.
RIP

When I used to audition for bands, many moons ago, I would get their song lists to peruse. Sometimes I would see songs like ' Use Me', 'Superstition', ' Dixie Chicken' (or some other Little Feat). I would think - cool, keyboard parts!
90 percent of the time the guitarist(s) glommed onto the keyboard parts and, after playing them for years, wouldn"t let them go - even if they were wrongly played.
Got to the point that those songs would show up and it became a red flag - don"t bother auditioning!
Like cphollis" poor answer - they never played with a keyboard player before and want to give it a try.

Best wishes to all for a fantastic 2021 !!
Here"s hoping it"s a significant upgrade from 2020 - not hard to do.

I have a T6. Hard to beat for the bucks. Matches up nicely with my B3X. You can reverse the faders so you can pull down a fader to increase a drawbar setting. Without getting into their 'Nektarine' software, you can use transport controls, volume/mute/solo/pan for 8 tracks at a time (individual track control, but 8 tracks at a time in your mixer). Also, you can select tracks from the board - go beyond track 8 and you jump to tracks 9 - 16 in the mixer. Pretty much standard stuff, but works well out of the box.
This will do nothing to improve your piano chops - light touch and 61 keys. Very easy to activate the aftertouch - I end up turning it off most of the time, so I don"t record a ton of unwanted data. USB and DIN MIDI !!
The Nektarine software is fairly deep - I haven"t been able to get my pea brain to fully engage with it. But you should able to program your controls to match up with instrument, insert, and smart control parameters.
9 programmable presets, but you can"t name them.
Oh - the pads are pretty much useless (for me) - really gotta whack them to get close to 127 velocity. You can set them to a set velocity, but then they double trigger or trigger a neighbor too easily.

Thank you. Very cool putting these out there fo free!

Love the hip changes in this tune, especially the bridge. Live versions help unmask the great songwriting from some of the dated synth tones in the original studio recording:
Looks like he's actually playing a digital piano "masked" in a wooden grand piano case. Anyone know what digital keyboard he's playing? Yamaha? Internal sounds? Or using it as a controller?
Freeze at 4:58 - a Yammi, prolly internal sound ?

Definitely an event where, if you were alive and an adult, you remember where you were when you heard.

Me too.

For me, things have been noticeably better for at least a week now.

EVERYBODY WORE MASKS, GOT VACCINATED AND STAYED HOME FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS WE'D BE DONE WITH IT.
I'm not proud of this, but a part of me that's not as small as I would like sometimes thinks that we let the non-believers congregate and spread the damn thing amongst themselves while the rest of us stay home and etc. for a couple of weeks. We'd drop the population of the idiots and after they're either all dead or have their antibodies, the rest of us could come out and play.
I agree, even if I"m not proud of it either.

(Great piece of television!!)
I know I"m kinda late, but I hope y"all HAD a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Hope you were able to be with your families, or at least Zoom with them.
Family is what really matters - or so I"ve been told.
-
I"ve used all the ways that you listed - a lot times more than 1 on one song. All depends on the song, how much the style is in my 'wheelhouse ', how complex or technically challenging the keys are, etc.
I"ve also been able download a (good) MIDI file, put it my DAW and see what"s going on. This was great for getting horn section parts in quite few songs I"ve covered in the past (Chicago, EWF, etc). I find it hard to figure out some of those inner voices in horn parts.
So, all of the above + SMFs.

Thanks, db!
