  1. My local instrument store with unfortunate acronym (Proffesional Music Technology) in the UK said they were expecting the shipment of the RD88 to be delayed by a number of weeks due to loads of goods sitting in containers in Chinese ports.Coronorvirus uncertainty - so who knows when. After ditching the FP90 I said I wouldnt be getting another board with the Roland piano sound any time soon but the rest of the RD88 package ticks a few boxes for me. Also Jon Cleary is a great advert for the brand - says a lot for the action as much as the piano sound. Others have commented that the Rd88s piano in the vids comes across a bit harsh or metalic sounding - and I tend to agree. But I just realised that the default piano (Concert Grand 001) is the BRITE grand version. Cant think why the did that but it aint typical. Thommen's website has hi-res photos - you can read the patch name if you zoom in on the screen.
  2. Yeah I missed out the flat. Ive been playing that tune on nylon acoustic guitar and D maj is a nice key for that. Em7b5 /Bb is not gittar friendly - nice on the Steinway though :-)
  3. Can't be Night and Day cause first chord is Bmaj7/6 in key of D Bmaj7/ Em7 A7/ Dmaj7 The difference is Night...
  4. I think its called the fallboard. You should find a piano restoration business in your area - take some samples along and see if they can match it. The guys in my area are very helpfull - with materials and also advice. Red is usual for the fallboard but green or blue can look smart. The A90 is great as long as you don't need to schlep it.
  5. Elmer, I am afraid that you maybe turning in to a gear-slut! Just think of the Planet man! That and enriching Supra-national corporations. Don't worship at the shine of Yamwaha!
  6. Must be all those baby boomers over on the BBC but his passing has been noted on all the radio news broadcasts today. Even had Jules Holland playing an ad-hock piano piece live over the airwaves on his smartphone. The piece was Desire (??? - whatever was the name of the Doc's mother) Sounded quite authentic too.
  7. On a cursory listen to those two albums some dumb-ass might say "OK he's playing lots'a blues scales..." but you wouldn't want to change one note of any lick because just like Monk every note is beautifully chosen. Especially on the slower balad numbers - I love how you think the song has finished then he throws you with another flourish or desending chord patern. My favourite album is City Lights from 1978, its a real autobiographic maserpiece.Just realised why the arangements are so good - he gave the job to Claus Olgerman! Even got Richard Tee as second keys. Hope someone digs the vaults for some more solo stuff.
  8. So the Doctor died on D-day. Should be a state funeral. He sure did Make a better World to Live in. We love you mac.
  9. Confused? / Back on topic; He probably bought a wight S-1000 cause he lives on the Isle of White.
  10. My mistake. I meant Sark - getting my Lewis Carroll and Mervyn Peake mixed up!
  11. Hi Aidan, Not being snarky but maybe he lives on Snark? Anyway soon us Brits will all be living on a small island of the coast of Eu-rup.
  12. More live goodies from the vault. Leon with The New Grass Revival from 1980 (Sam Bush on mandolin y'all!) The solo rendition of A Song for You at 50.52 secs had me in tears;
  13. Info about the rockumentary "A Poem is a Naked Person": https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/7bdkxa/les-blanks-leon-russell-masterpiece-finally-makes-its-way-into-the-world-40-years-later-555 "Russell wasn't just a talented musician; he embodied the open-mindedness, eclecticism, and steadfast conviction that so many artists strive to capture." A good read. Now Im gonna hunt down Leon's 1972 album "Leon Russel Live"
  14. Thanks for that blast from the past. Righteous stuff! I saw a movie documentary a while back about Leon.It had been lost and in the can for forty years or so but the intensity of the music in this vid was something else.
  15. So you are saying... you realy dig the key DIP on the Cp73
  16. That is wild! and Well found.
  17. If this lot went on tour together it would be an expensive project!
  18. Thanks for the prompt. Just checked their scedule. Apart from a break in August looks like they play every night until December - sure don't need any practice time. I get to see them at Love Supreme Festival in July (Brighton UK) wish they had Lalla Hathaway in the band. I can dream... Do they always have a vocalist or are they sometimes just instrumental.?
  19. I missed that.I also missed it the first time around. I also thought you were a younger bloke than me - maybe time you updated your photo Aidan.
  20. Was looking on line for some Dan material and came across this great UK site with free download PDFs. http://www.grantobrien.co.uk/samples/piano-based-transcriptions Seems that the Hal Leonard books are not great on accuracy but these charts are top pro-job. Also some Jaco/Weather Report tunes not in the fake books and five or so piano transcriptions from Donald Fagan's Nightfly including fullscore of Between the Raindrops inc. seperate parts for synth/lead guitar/drums and conga! Hope this 'aint "old news"
  21. Good to know its worth the asking price. If I get a MODX I'm gonna fist rely on Bad Mister's wisdom to hip me to its architecture. That wizard been working for Yamaha since the original Motif came out. ...then I'll end up shelling out for the Melas tools.
  22. "I read about how you have to adjust 6 parameters per Element if you want to change the filter sound for the Element - sounds painful." Especially as each sound can have 8 elements! The John Melas program packs cost 65, 85 or 125 euros for all programs. So if Kurzweil can give away a computer editor for free I would have thought Yamaha could afford to do the same - No?
  23. Why, Thank you Dave! Aidan- well hes not wrong about having to tell the drummer twice. (To change the tempo!)
  24. Best demo Ive seen so far from a performers perspective. Maybe someone can embed it as Im clueless. The guy states that the flash ram is 768 megs (as oposed to 1 gig)- Busch take note!
