  1. The used VR-09 I just bought is version 1.0. should I install 1.1 before installing 1.2 or just go straight to 1.2?
  2. Agreed! I play that often in my Petty Tribute. Tonight though listening to Mountain's Yasgurs Farm, theme From Imaginary Western, and Nantucket Sleighride. They don't make bands with tone like that anymore! I just love the overdriven organ and guitar combinations.
  3. Add momentary Rotary assignment to the list as well!
  4. Thanks Craig, I do have an IPad and will definitely look into your suggestions! Bob
  5. My VR-09 arrived late this afternoon. I had to get a practice session in tonight to be ready for band practice tomorrow so I did not have a lot of time to dive in or tweak anything. I used it as my top "organ" keyboard. First impressions after brief use: Nice looking, solidly built keyboard. VERY easy to figure out how to use even without the owners manual. I just used the Rock Organ tonight but adjusted drawbars. It sounded pretty decent to me. I liked the Twin Rotary effect the best so far. The OD was OK at lower levels not great over 1/4 up but in Stones and Petty tribute bands I don't need a lot of Major OD. IIRC my old VK-7 had a better OD than that. Also Disappointed I could not find a sitar patch which I need at times for both bands. My PX-5S has one but this could negate using the VR-09 alone for any "lack of space" gigs. On first impression, I think I like the EP's and AP's better on the Casio but I may be more used to them. I also use the damper/sustain pedal as the Leslie fast slow pedal which was easy to assign but is there any way to set it as a "momentary" pedal (on fast while pressed, on slow when released)?
  6. I'm joining your club! Just scored a VR-09 for under 700$ " used in very good condition " from 123 Music through Amazon. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions about it starting next week! Selling the MM6.
  7. I played in a bar with the big tube TV right above me..kept hitting my head on it! Thank goodness they have a flat screen now!
  8. I have a blue bike. Me too and I watch TV while riding it!
  9. For practicing organ bass lines a Casio CTK model with drawbar organs might work well for you.
  10. Michelle, I'm going through an "overuse" diagnosis as well as in forearm tendonitis and tennis elbow. PT told me laptop use has contributed to this as I have a habit that I am trying to break of using one on my lap on the sofa for long periods. PT told me to sit closer to my music keyboards when playing, and beforehand to warm up with stretching and heat and ice after practice and gigs. Getting back to the OP, since he asked about the best keyboard for his lap use I would agree that an entry level 61 key light weight battery operated Casio or Yamaha with speakers would be fine. I would not bother with an IPad or iPhone hookup for this purpose. Why have another thing to hook up? The more crap you have to connect, the least likely you will use it. It's also something, since you are not gigging with it, IMO, that you need not spend a lot for. You would probably find 10 boards like I recommended looking at craigslist tonight.
  11. Not sure if I'm comparing apples to oranges, but Korg must have done this pretty cheaply considering the low price they sell the Nanokontroler for.

Not sure why mine are so small. Probably cuz I imported them from Facebook to Photobucket. too late and tired to figure it out! I wish we could do direct uploads here. EDIT: Yeah I saved them in smaller sizes to post on Facebook. In order to get bigger ones posted here I'd have upload them from my 'puter to Photobucket resized and then post here which I don't really have time for. Anyhoo, the prints of these from when I exhibited them are from 12" to 36" wide.
  13. Yeah , I have a Vent too. But I have been happy doing VB3 without it as it is one less thing to hook up and deal with.
  14. Thanks Craig, Seems like GC has them in stock now. I may just head down there and do that.
  15. I am happy with the sound of VB3's internal Leslie sim used with an Axiom controller and footpedal in a Classic Rock Band context. Would I be just as happy with the Roland VR-09's Leslie sim? Or happier?
  16. I still do ....and still do. I'd never play it alone but it sounds real decent through an Art Tube preamp and Vent. I'd guess you could skip the preamp and the VR'-09 would sound great through a Vent.
  17. Wow, this is awesome! What keyboards did you use?
  18. That sounds pretty cool Steve. I just started fooling around with my 7500's sequencer. I have not produced anything worthwhile yet but it's a lot of fun to use!
  19. My Tom Petty Cover group. This was our first gig since some personnel changes were made a couple of months ago. I'm on a Yammy S08 Synth and Roland VK7/art Tube/Vent. http://www.petty-larceny-band.com/media.html
  20. Gear below is posted in chronological order that I first posted on the Organforum, which is the first kb forum I ever belonged to. I also belong to The Yahoo Hammond, Clonewheel and nearly dead Organ-ized Forum. I also belong to 2 Casio forums. I'm 59 now I really did not start playing professionally until I was about 49. I took piano lessons as a kid but just noodled around on my old spinet for years. When my kids took piano lessons at a local music store, and could not make them due to Field Hockey, Lacrosse, etc., I sat in for them rather than waste the money. That led to a few months of lessons for me and I finally actually was able to play somewhat decent and met several other interesting musicians there. One guitarist had the same interest in Springsteen as me so we started to jam together. Several other instrumentalists joined us and we started a Bruce cover Band called Boss. Thus, my Bossbandbob handle. We never could get a sax player to stick with us, added a real good female singer who we also wanted to feature so we evolved into a regular everyday Classic Rock cover band that played area clubs and lasted 9 years. After that ended I tried to startup another Springsteen Tribute but could never get the right players together. Then played in another couple of cover bands until joining the best band I've been with so far (in many ways), Petty Larceny. A TP tribute where I'm totally enjoying pretending to be Benmont! His stuff seems to really fit my playing style. I also finally realized about 4 years ago that to get the organ tones (THAT sound) I needed for Classic Rock that I had to own a real Hammond and Leslie. So I have developed a combination of HAS and GAS which is tough to feed on a private school teacher's salary while putting 2 girls through college. I teach art and photography. I'm still trying to master the Hammond, esp. the drawbars which I guess will be a lifelong process! http://www.petty-larceny-band.com/ Yamaha S08 Yamaha DGX-500 1959 Hammond M3 1961 Hammond A101 VB3 1975 Leslie 130 upgraded with V21 top rotor, tube amp, wood lower rotor 1972 Leslie 825 upgraded with top rotor, etc. 1953 Hammond M2 currently in about 50 pieces (trying to soup up and chop) Neo Ventilator Casio WK-7500 Yamaha P50m Module Roland VK-7 and a Yammy powered mixer and PA,and an assortment of amps and pedals
