Notation software thread, 2019 edition

How good are these programs at converting printed music/PDFs to MIDI? Is there one that is better than the rest at this job? -
Is the Lachy Doley online course worth $500?
keyman27 replied to kwyn's topic in The Keyboard Corner
A lot of times when I'm playing organ or piano in a rock/blues setting, and I take a solo (or listening back to a recording of it), I realize I have nothing to say. It's all sound and fury, signifying nothing. I feel dissatisfied. The clips I've listened to of Lachy Doley make me feel the same way. -
Heads-up: SpaceStation keyboard amp is apparently back
keyman27 replied to garnermike's topic in The Keyboard Corner
My Spacestation fell out of favor with me due to the low note rattle. I thought maybe the speaker was blown, or bad gain structure with my little keyboard mixer. I finally took off the back, reached in, and sure enough the driver was loose. I gave it at least two 1/4 turns to tighten it up. -

Have you tried plugging an instrument cable into the sub out jack? Just to block the air. My luck with the SSv3 has been hit or miss. Sometimes it sounds superb. Other times, I hear distortion or some other undesirable sound. It seems to change with the setting. -
You could always lay out for that part. I don't hear any keys in there. Then when you come back in, it will give the song a little lift.

Vibrandoneon - a beautiful, wood, pro melodica...
keyman27 replied to WWW's topic in The Keyboard Corner
The vintage Hohner Piano 26 is my favorite. That was a great melodica shootout though. -
I got a Mojo61. Took one home from GearFest (thanks dB!). I've only used it once in a live setting, and it was a lot of fun. I've been doing all gigs with just my NS2 73 for about 5 years now. I want to use both boards on some gigs -- how are people doing this? I hate the standard 2-tier configuration, or at least I haven't found a good stand for that purpose. I wonder if it makes sense to put the NS2 on top of the Mojo... sort of like a Nord sitting on top of a real console organ. I'd have to make some kind of brace to hold up the Nord. Thoughts on any of this?

Donny Hathaway (Wurlie) Appreciation Thread

Years ago I heard Kanker do that tune and nail it! I love Donny Hathaway on Wurli. -
It's a Zarenbourg!

Not sure if this question fits here or in the dual manual Mojo thread but here it is. The newer dual manual Mojos and all of the Mojo61s have an action (or key response/ trigger point) that is different from the older Mojos. Is that correct? And if so, how does one determine if a particular dual manual Mojo has the newer action? I'm wondering about this because I get the feeling that the Hammond sim / Leslie sim is getting so good (for all clones out there) that it's the finger-to-sound connection that can really make the difference. So that sways me toward a Mojo. My next thought is which one, dual or single. With the new update for the dual, and if I can get a used one that has the newer action, I'm tempted to go for that one.

Does anyone have tips/tricks for getting an A100 w/ROK up a set of cellar steps? It was hell getting the organ down there... knocked off the half-moon of course. I was thinking of getting a big thick plywood board, and sort of raising the floor as the organ goes up each step? Or get a long thick strap or rope, and tie it to the A100 and run it up around a big tree trunk, and use that for some extra pulling?

What's the speaker stand of choice for putting the SSv3 on its side (main speaker facing up, side facing down)? -
Acousticsamples B-0 Organ for UVI Workstation
keyman27 replied to davinwv's topic in The Keyboard Corner
aL, You choose 'UVI Workstation' for the input on an instrument track. Just like you would choose any virtual instrument. Once UVIWorkstation is there, you click right in the middle of the label to open up the UVI interface. Then you can load up the B-5. It works for me using MS3 on my Macbook Air from 2013 (just barely - CPU is maxed but no clicks/pops). -

I want to feed my Spacestation with aux outs from my XR18 digital mixer. My mixer outs are XLR, and the Spacestation is 1/4". What's the easiest & best solution? Would it be a cable like this one? (Note that the 1/4 is 'stereo' or balanced -- does that make a difference?) monoprice xlr to 1/4 -
Your NS2 was stolen? That really sucks. Does your custom patch still live on, in your Nord Sound Manager app?

The multitracks/'stems' are a real revelation and a lot of fun. It's interesting how non-precise the synth bass part is. There is a killer triplets lick buried in one of the clav parts in the 2nd half of the song. It's great to hear the isolated vocals.

Yes, you can get your wah-wah on with the SK1's expression pedal. It has a great sound, very reminiscent of the wah clav on Pink Floyd's 'Money'. It's a more trebley kind of wah.

My Nord Stage 2 Compact has an arpeggiator. (How do I make that 'poking with a stick' smilie?) But I very rarely use it. I played around with the VR-09 at the music store and I really like it. I don't really have a reason to own it because it's redundant with the NS2. But in terms of cool new gear lust, the VR-09 hits the sweet spot of low price and great features.

I haven't tried this yet, but it seems like good news. They have addressed a lot of little gripes: Updated Areas: - A new parameter, Velocity Offset has been added to the [CONTROL] menu press [uP] 6 times. - Blinking cursor changes to static cursor by pressing [ENTER]. - The [AMOUNT] knob is assigned to RATE when the LFO source is chosen on the Ring Modulator. - Improved polyphonic response. - CC#81 Receiving (Lower) Drawbar Registration Is Fixed. - The processing for voice library, load and delete are improved. - The selection of Voice Groups by the [VALUE] knob is now limited to each category. - The sharp keys velocity has been slightly lowered. - The Extra Voice Version is now available in the display. - On the Factory Preset Patches, Vibrato & Chorus for Pedal has been turned off. - All custom ToneWheel models now speak at the same volume level. - In the "A.Piano" Voices, "3rd Harmonic GP" and "St. GP OldTime Pcd". have been added. - In the "E.Piano" Voices, "EPiano Wur Mellow". has been added. - In the "Keyboard" Voices, "Doob Real Love". has been added. - In the "Wind" Voices, "Big Band Gliss Up Pcd", "Two Trumpets", "Unison Brass", "Syn Brs Afri" and "Syn Brs Rosa". have been added. - In the "Other" Voices , "Noise Zap" and "Jet". have been added. - In the Library. "Tr.Organ VxJ", and "VxJS(with sustain effect)". have been added - Incoming MIDI pitch bend (2 semitones) and modulation control controls has are enabled when the MIDI IN mode is set at "EXVOICE". -

Thanks JMcS! I'll try this update later today. Can anyone confirm this behavior on their Sk: When I hold down a few notes and then press the octave buttons, the notes retrigger. Does this happen on your Sk? Is this normal behavior for keyboards? Is it a cool thing, or a bug? It happens on organ and on the extra voices. -

The suggested retail price was $136 at the Hammond US site you linked. But where can you buy them? The only place I've found is here for $149. -

There is also a fake spring reverb crash, like if you bumped your Fender Twin. I used this to mess with the guitar player the other night. It was pretty funny. -

Not really a trick, but the USB file player is really nice. I use it like a one-shot sampler for a few songs that need a recorded intro to start them off or finish them off. I used to do this via my iPhone. That worked but was clunky, and required another instrument cable and channel on the board. Now I don't have to leave my keyboard, and I have a volume knob to grab.
