  1. I wish the video thumbnail showed us the new board, lol. Anyone have pics?
  2. Btw, if you hadn't heard, LSU's Flau'jae Johnson is also a rapper. She's legit on the court and on the mic. "Are you gonna rap or be an athlete? If I'm still doing both why you asking me?" She was on America's Got Talent as a fourteen year-old. Her father was a rapper as well, under the name Camoflauge, but was tragically shot to death before her birth.
  3. Unfortunate ref show, yes, but some stellar shooting from LSU. Iowa could never truly get back in the game. Congrats to the Tigers.
  4. Congrats Gov! Boy, am I hyped for this Iowa-LSU final. Should be a great game.
  5. That's two different things, though. A recording studio where people are tracking a bunch is going to go through headphones by the dozen and will likely have mid- to lower-range cans available for common use. A dedicated mastering studio will rarely have guests and gear is usually pricey and babied to the nth degree.
  6. Well yes, throwing from your buttocks is never going to be an applicable in-game skill. That's just for fun, like doing backflips at the end of a good throwing session. Having fun isn't a bad thing. He hasn't shown consistency, no, but he certainly has shown flashes and has very limited experience. You might not think he's worth a top-five or even first-round pick, and that's fine. It's up to the actual people paid to make these decisions, and even they still make mistakes.
  7. My ears were burning 😇 He's been aceing the draft process, that's for sure. Record-setting combine, apparently interviewing extremely well, and now an effortless pro day show. Did you see the clip of him throwing a ball 25-30 yards while sitting on the ground? I kind of doubt he'll displace Stroud and Young (or Young and Stroud), but I'd say he's as close to a top-five lock as you can get. Just hopes whoever drafts him can give him some time to develop before they throw him to the wolves. Guy needs reps and good coaching to continue to progress.
  8. The backup/duplicate rig is a good idea, but is certainly cost-prohibitive, especially for younger musicians. And even moreso if we're also following the "buy once, buy right" adage. It's still a good idea. But I'm also thirty and have spent nearly half my life gigging semi- to fully-professionally and am now only starting to get doubles of things like sustain pedals. I sure as hell ain't getting duplicates of my boards. Otherwise, I'll say again that I've learned as much about the music business from the generous wealth of knowledge here than I did from my expensive music degree. Thank you all once again for enriching my life and significantly contributing to my career. I owe you all a great deal. So yes, my tip to young musicians would be to hang out here and pay particular attention to posts by sirs Tim, Geoff, Josh, Jerry, Al, Dave, and anyone else who may resonate with you. But also, make sure you actually play more than you hang out here. The internet will suck you in!
  9. I love the human side of sports. I love it.
  10. Haven't been able to watch as much this year, but Caitlin Clark is already legendary. One of the best shooters we've ever seen on either side of the tournament. Angel Reese from LSU has also had some pretty crazy stat lines including 25 points/24 rebounds/6 blocks against Michigan. My Gators of course weren't up to par this year, but the women are still competing for the NIT. The men accepted a bid but lost out early. I'll have a hard time picking a team between SDSU and FAU, although I'll likely lean towards FAU, since Dusty May used to be an assistant in Gainesville. Will be amazing to see either of those teams compete for a national title. UConn all the way in the other game, of course, lol.
  11. Just found an isolated piano track of the original. Mm mm good.
  12. Side note: most young bands today do learn covers, but it's moreso a couple songs to fill out a set of originals. Not many young bands play three set bar gigs. More likely to book a three band bill at a venue (could be a bar, but also a café, indie music venue, skatepark, hell, even a Denny's). And yes, much more likely to record a DIY EP, make merch, videos, etc.
  13. 70s Zildjian A ride on a nice deal. Made in Canada, so essentially a Sabian before they became Sabian.
  14. There will always be bands. There's just more ways to get into and experience music nowadays, which is a positive. I would absolutely still join a band if I were a teenager. Nothing like making some noise with your friends.
  15. I don't understand why they say there's no money in it whatsoever. I understand not being able to support yourself off it or rely on it for income in any way, but being so set on no money involved is simply bizarre. If you're not playing gigs yet, surely there's a plan to get out there at some point? If they've done semi-legit stuff in the past like big support slots etc, that only makes it weirder. There's got to be, at a minimum, a way for you to cover the hard costs of each individual gig, even if you never pay off the capital gear costs. Like everyone here, I've done gigs and jams and what not for little to no money, but never without some other value added. Usually, any gig worth its while will at least find a way to cover your costs. Again, just puzzled at the whole thought process behind the "there's no money in this band and that's just how it's gonna be" mindset.
  16. Couple other things that I heard in therapy that helped me: -You can't simply find balance, you have to create it. It takes work. -Change doesn't happen until you change something.
  17. Haha yep, they referred me to the mover, who somehow had a very similar writing style. I did use my email, which may not have been a good idea, but oh well. The mover asked for my address for delivery and I asked for their address to come try it out before I agreed to anything. We rinsed and repeated a couple times til I stopped answering. Maybe one day someone will gift me a free grand piano!
  18. Our situations are obviously not identical, but I've been through a lot of the same feelings over the last few years. Like David, I think my impending 30th birthday and everything that goes along with it (including friends and peers doing their own thing) played into it. Couple quick thoughts: -Boundaries really are everything. Taking one thing off your plate, or being clear with your bandmates about what you can and can't do can make all the difference. -FOMO is awful, try your best to shut it down. Gigs, like everything in life, come in cycles (including the energy to deal with the industry!). As a nice person who can both play and show up on time, there'll always be somebody ready to hire you to play. We're on the younger side of members here, imagine what some of our, ahem, more experienced members have been through. How many times have all of us felt like we found "the project"? Imagine how many times you'll have been excited or burnt out on a project by the time you're 70 or 80. Try to take it all in stride and enjoy the good moments and later, memories, with each band. -Find beauty in the mundane. Slow down. Be patient with yourself and with your life. -Therapy and such, though I think you're already into that. P.S. Thanks for sharing, Sam.
  19. What do you think, am I gonna come out of this with a free Petrof grand? Looks scammy as hell, of course. I would naturally expect to pay moving expenses (probably where the scam would happen) and would probably have to store it with someone for a couple years until my roommate moves out and I move things around in my house. But! What if this is actually real and I get it??? Kijiji ad for free Petrof grand
  20. “The blockbuster deal sends from Denver to Seattle two first-round picks, No. 9 overall this year and a 2023 first-rounder; two second-round picks, No. 40 overall pick this year and a 2023 second-rounder, this year's fifth-round pick, tight end Noah Fant, quarterback Drew Lock and defensive end Shelby Harris.” The return for Russell Wilson, almost exactly a year ago, who then signed a big money deal shortly thereafter… every situation is different, but I wouldn’t bet against someone spending two firsts. Sidenote, gonna annoy Bill and Gov with this one again after talking their ears off in the CFB thread, but how about my guy Anthony Richardson at the combine? Record-setting performance on the field and, from all accounts, knocked the interview portion out of the park as well. I mean, the dude has comparable results to people like Derrick Henry and Khalil Mack while making 70-yard bombs look effortless. Needs more reps and accuracy training, but anyone believe the #1 hype? I seriously doubt he gets out of the top ten, at the very least.
  21. Ok, stop the presses. You can play Pong on this synth?? And it'll trigger changes in the sound while you do it??? Kidding aside, this is definitely on my radar. Not top of the list by any means, but maybe by sometime next year I'll be ready to make a semi-impulsive purchase. Seems like it packs quite a lot of power into a slight form factor. I'm actually happy that the 101 and 106 models aren't full re-creations, but rather oscillator models running through the SH-4d architecture. I've already got a 106 and there are plenty of 101 clones and VSTs around if I really want the exact sound. Sequencer seems pretty powerful as well. But seriously, it really does look like a fun instrument to explore, what with the drawing model and the bouncing/orbiting/pong stuff. Hope they sell lots and we get an expanded keyboard edition, or perhaps as mentioned, a rackable Jupiter. Oh, and for the record, Carl Craig is 53.
