  1. Using this as a chord identification ear training exercise with a student:
  2. I've had a few thoughts as this thread has gone on and haven't quite gotten around to articulating them all. On the whole, however, I'm so very glad to finally see the Patreon get some real traction and have other methods of contributing for those who, for whatever reason, would rather have another avenue. dB, as you're well aware, it's basically impossible to achieve true consensus here, or anywhere on the internet. I think the offerings we've settled on for now offer sufficient opportunities for folks to get involved in the manner they see fit. Could there still be tweaks? Possibly, but maybe once we go a year or so with the current model, we can re-assess once the next fundraising thread comes along. So yes, let's please have an annual/biannual/biennual thread to remind folks to give and bring newbies/returning members up to speed on the new configuration and the importance of giving. I think the overall message of the thread is that most members value the community first and, when encouraged to do so, will gladly contribute to keep it around. Mike, if you add one donation to your cart, and then view your cart, you can adjust the quantity of donations there (at least on my browser). Fairly common in online commerce, although I agree it would ease any confusion to be able to specify quantity on the product page as well. Anyway, thanks again dB for all you do. Shoutout to Jim Quinn, Craig, and any and all other moderators/admins/volunteers who've helped keep the lights on over the years. We're all indebted to you and I'm glad we're able to have conversations like this to keep the greatest little corner of the internet alive and well.
  3. I've been a happy MPN Patron since the launch of the Patreon. I would not have signed up for this forum if there was any cost barrier. There can't be an entry fee or we'll lose almost all new member sign ups.
  4. He and Mike Campbell were also featured on several tracks of the last Chris Stapleton record. Great stuff.
  5. Not a regular gig, but he was in the house band for Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration last month, MD'ed by Don Was.
  6. I'd just be worried about playing a fake brass sound with a real horn player if it's not a tight, rehearsed thing. As said, so much of the sound of TOP is the tightness and punchiness of the brass. Playing a different sound, like B3, can help smooth over the rough edges.
  7. Yeah, just go with the Stomp. It's pretty ludicrous bang for the buck. Considering your usual position of using your hardware only for live playing (although it's certainly a studio-quality pedal), I don't see how spending the extra money to get two or three Strymons is worth it when the Line 6 will do all that and more in a smaller footprint. But YMMV, workstations vs dedicated units, etc. Also, Ed, that's why they put the H90 out recently (two H9s in one box).
  8. I suppose I deserved that Game 3 performance, eh? My dad would've called me "baveux" for that! But allow me to share a poem I wrote the other day... A Leafs hater I was born A Leafs hater I was bred A Leafs hater I will be Long after I'm dead All fun and games, of course Another slate of big games tonight, eh? Some people are saying that the pressure has shifted onto the Panthers, but I don't buy it. Disappointed Pietrangelo only got one game, of course. Ridiculous play. Nurse deserves his game, even if the NHL had rescinded the suspension in both cases when it occurred during this regular season. Oh, and bye bye Devils. Very promising future, they'll be great for years to come. (Thanks in large part to their VP of analytics, Oilers fan Tyler Dellow. If only we had hired him...)
  9. Yes, effort and work ethic will not be an issue for him. If you know anything about him personally, it's not a surprise he aced the interviews at the combine as well as the athletics. You can pretty much guarantee he'll work as hard as anyone in the draft at his craft. He didn't grow up with the same resources as a lot of 1st rounders nowadays do. He went to his neighbourhood high school and grinded his way to a scholarship at his hometown university, all while helping his mother raise his younger brother. Now, simply by signing his rookie contract, he's already set his family up for life, but he's certainly not about to stop there. Dang it, I thought I was done pounding the table but here I am continuing!
  10. Well, it sure looks like AR will be starting for the Colts, maybe even Week 1. They released Nick Foles after the first practice. Gardner Minshew could still work the first few weeks. Now, as we've discussed, for his own personal development, he probably would have benefited from an extra year in college, or at least a first year in the NFL sitting and learning behind a vet. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen. However, allow me to continue to pound the table for my guy, lmao. (And he did make the right decision for himself, look up his contract.) I really enjoy the NFL Live crew. I find them to be one of the best panels around. Some good discussion here, including reinforcing the fact the Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard are good people to have around. They will likely build around his strengths to start and help him grow from there. Dan Orlovsky isn't in that video, but he's often on the panel and has great input on him as well. Check out his Twitter, he has some good video breakdown of why Anthony could be successful with Steichen calling the offence. I'm not familiar with the person doing this breakdown, but Ringer is a legitimate source and there is some good info and video here. Ok, table pounding ceased. Unless anyone brings up Dan Mullen playing Emory Jones over Anthony based solely on seniority...
  11. Paging Leafs Nation... please report to the thread so we can all laugh. Couple of wild ones in the other two games. How do you score three shorties and still lose by four goals? Carolina apparently knows. Game 3 for the Oil back home tonight. Quick start needed and can't rest on our Game 2 performance, but we're in a good spot and the team seems to be locked and loaded, playing connected both from a possession/passing/support perspective and a physical perspective. 5 wins down, still need another 11. Oh, and the Bedard lottery is tonight. It feels so good not to care. Hope he goes to Montréal.
  12. Gotta imagine some teams (whether GB is one of them or not) are already angling for the opportunity to draft Caleb Williams next year.
  13. I love Rob Friedman’s content. It really has really helped me appreciate the ability of Major League pitchers. On a personal note, I attended the Dodgers-Phillies game last night. Wasn’t particularly close, with the Dodger bats teeing off on the Phils’ pitching and the defence holding up any potential rallies. But boy oh boy, what a ballpark. What a setting. I sat at the very top row of the top deck behind home plate, which, while being an economical choice, actually gave me a great view of both the game and the park. It was a great game atmosphere as well, despite it being a chilly Monday evening in early May. I can’t imagine what the vibes must be like in September or October. A great experience, and I got a Dustin May bobblehead and a nacho helmet to remember it by!
  14. Well, I went to night 2. I initially thought you could only buy tickets for both nights, but I guess that was only if you were buying through the Hollywood Bowl website. I also initially winced at the price, but as I said in my previous post, I was swayed by the band and guest list… and boy am I happy I went for it. Here’s a review of the show from Billboard. My personal highlights included hearing Willie sing Stardust with Booker T on B3 and Benmont on piano, Lukas Nelson singing Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground solo, Jayme Johnson, Warren Haynes, and Booker doing Georgia, Norah Jones and Allison Russell doing Seven Spanish Angels, Norah and Kris Kristofferson doing Help Me Make It Through The Night, and many more. Plenty of funny and touching stories about Willie as well, of course. And my first time at the Bowl, an incredible venue. A fantastic evening, despite a lady in the row behind me vomiting for most of the second half of the show! 😄
  15. LFG ROUND 2 HERE WE COME
  16. Shoot, sorry fellas, didn’t end up renting a car and have tix on the 3rd and 4th… hope to get back down to SD soon enough.
  17. Please, step into my office. May I interest you in a wall to run through? Game 6 tonight behind enemy lines. I am attending and am ready to explode. I’ll return for further, more reasoned discussion later, but for now, I’m gonna watch the video again and start yelling.
  18. Dang it Mike, I was trying to ignore this show and save some money but now seeing who’s in the house band…
  19. That’s my guy! Hey Bill 😉 A little disappointed O’Cyrus Torrence didn’t hear his name called tonight, but he’ll be an early 2nd rounder and should have a long career. Oh, and no FSU or Miami players drafted, plus AR went before anyone from Georgia. 😏
  20. For those of you who know the Baked Potato: Is a patio seat ok, or should I spring for indoor seating if I want to actually hear the band and enjoy the performance? Hoping to see Scott Kinsey Also have a ticket for Game 6 between the Kings and Oilers and am looking at Alfa Mist at the Fonda Theater (and maybe Dawes at the Ace Hotel). Willy Nelson is holding a 90th birthday bash at the Hollywood Bowl, but it's two-day tickets only and pretty pricey. Probably make it to a Dodgers game on Monday or Tuesday as well. Hoping to swing by Ken Rich's shop if he'll take visits as well. Thanks everyone, looking like it'll be a fun time!
