  1. I was lucky enough to see him when he was breaking this album. I lived on Long Island at the time and he played a club on the North shore called My Father's Place in Roslyn. Got to see him twice that week. They also did some stuff from the Thrust album, namely Actual Proof. Like Eric, I really like that period, including Fat Albert Rotunda, which was before his Mwandishi phase. Love the Rhodes sound he was getting at that time!
  2. I was able to get them all. but for the ones who didn't, don't feel bad - it was a bit flawed in that either he played along with the track or did it on his own, which made it it sound a little different from the original, Dancing In the Moonlight being a prime example. Also, sometimes he didn't play the tracks long enough for them to reveal some of the Rhodes-iness or Wurli-ness of the instrument that were on the recordings.
  3. No, there's no web site, but an actual physical address. It's called The Street of Dreams (cue Frank S. and Count B.)
  4. The keyboard player was Phillipe Saisse who, unfortunately, was consigned to the "the keyboard player should just play some stuff in the background" role for pretty much all of the show. He is a really fine player with multiple albums out although it doesn't seem like he's been that busy lately.
  5. This brought to mind an episode of the late lamented Night Music series from about 30 to 35 years ago (dang - I can't believe it's been that long). It would have been great to have them go to their regular instruments and continue the song though. Sorry, I can't figure out how to just insert the video on its own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDbvphjAszw
  6. Ah Pete Barbutti - one of the most naturally funny people alive!!
  7. From the initial look and quick glance at the owner's manual it appears that you can only get one organ registration, i.e., not set up separate lower and upper manual sounds to play, using another keyboard to play the lower manual sound. Is this correct?
  8. Gotta say, the sounds, especially the Rhodes the duo started out with, does not make me want to rush out and buy this.
  9. Two of the best bands you never heard that are long past gone: The Fabulous Rhinestones Bangor Flying Circus One still existent band that isn't totally unknown but a lot more people need to hear them: Santa Fe & the Fat City Horns
  10. I had heard it as what do a moose and the Buddy Rich Orchestra have in common?
  11. Q: What's the definition of relative minor? A: The guitar player's girlfriend.
  12. Q: How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? A: Five - one to change the bulb and the other four to talk about how Dave Weckl would have done it.
  13. Q: How many bass players does it take to change a light bulb? A: None - the keyboard player can do it with his left hand.
  14. Thanks again. The 408 I have does have the 2 rear ports. There was a pretty comprehensive review of the new line by Mitch Towne a while ago that I was looking for but, owing to my negligible skills at using the search engine on this forum, have been unable to find. It seems like it was at least a year ago though so it may be the S line as opposed to the SX one.
  15. Thanks for the replies! That does put things in a better perspective I was thinking they may have put a different brand of the 3.5" horns but could be totally mistaken on that. Thanks again.
  16. This question would go out to anyone who already has the Motion Sound KP-408SX or has knowledge of it. I had ordered one when they were on backorder a few months ago. Musician's Friend sent one out to me a few weeks ago. However, when I look on the back it says KP-408S. I had tried both email addresses on the Motion Sound web site but got no reponse. I'm getting ready to ship it back to MF but wanted to make sure the S's say S on the back and the SX's say SX. Since there's around a $200 price difference, I wanted to make sure I was getting what I'd paid for. Thanks in advance.
  17. The only problem there is that you'll probably have to rely on bluetooth to transmit the data to your iPad. I was doing that for awhile and would get latency and glitches. Once I changed to a direct connection all those problems went away. I'm like a lot of previous responders here - mainly hardware but use the iPad for other sounds (and MIDI files on Cubasis in my situation). When I was using the XKPro I ran it through a dongle and used the pad for E.Pianos & clav. Presently I'm using a Korg Nautilus 73 & using the pad for B3X. The advantage of the Nautilus is that you just need a USB-B to USB-C cable and it not only transmits data to the iPad but also transmits sound from the pad back into the Nautilus.
  18. I thought I had put a reply to this but don’t see it now (on vacation with terrible WiFi) but I recently got the case from Sweetwater supposedly for the XKPro but it seemed way too big for it. It was. I was getting it for a Korg Nautilus and it fit perfectly. I’m thinking it was actually for the SKXPro so you could check out the dimensions on their website and see if it would fit.
  19. I was recently looking for a case for a Nautilus 73. Tried a Gator case but it was too big and loose. Came across a case on Sweetwater that was supposedly for the XKPro but the dimensions looked way too big. However it fit the Nautilus like the proverbial glove so I’m wondering if it’s actually for the SK-2 or SKXPro. You might want to check that out although I see this thread is pretty old so it may be too much after the fact. And I did put the SKPro in it and it was way too big and loose.
  20. It puts me in mind of a CD released by Hank Jones and Charlie Haden called Come Sunday. Duo only, playing some hymns from Charlie's Kentucky upbringing. The roundness of the bass tone reminds me of that recording as well. Great playing by Larry and David.
  21. I don't know (much repeated rant here): The Hammond SK1 had a great clav sound. On the SK-PRO they gave you all 4 pickup variations and not one of them sounded nearly as good as the SK1. Similarly, I've been using a Nautilus 73 lately and end up using the GM clav because it sounds better than all the different pickup and settings varieties, so more isn't always better. From what I'm gathering here though, it doesn't sound like any of the Yamaha offerings were that good from the get-go.
