  1. I have two S90ES's so yes one of those. One needs some work- was on the road for 10 years. The other was the spare and has had work done and is in better condition. I bought the spare after the 2011 plane crash at the Reno Air Races- it was a present for surviving that. - The airplane went right over us and easily could have taken out me and my friends.
  2. Surprised this hasn't come up on here before- I think it has. This was announced about two years ago so it's been heavily reported. Until this, he's never stopped touring- or doing shows since the 1980s. Surprised to hear not a cool guy always seemed like he would be.
  3. https://m.facebook.com/LyleMays/photos/a.67520478696/10157028846863697/?type=3&source=48 For those not on FB: 'It is with deep sadness that I share that my uncle, Lyle Mays, passed away this morning in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with a recurring illness. Lyle was a brilliant musician and person, and a genius in every sense of the word. He was my dear uncle, mentor, and friend and words cannot express the depth of my grief. From his family, thank you for loving him and his music.'
  4. The Rack has the XS sound set, so it's missing the extra 128 voices the XF has plus it won't have the extra WAV ROM the XF sound set had. But it will get you close to an XF sound.
  5. Yamaha didn't buy Korg , there would have been a pretty big press release if that happened.
  6. I see what you mean but that's impossible for news like this to just be buried and not announced. Only Neil's family and Rush suppressed it for three days, not the news media or other events pushing it aside.
  7. This is the great doc I referred to and is avail on Amazon. Still pops up on AXSTV. http://www.axs.tv/axstvconcerts/docs-that-rock-the-doobie-brothers-let-the-music-play-premieres-october-17th/ https://www.amazon.com/Let-Music-Play-Doobie-Brothers/dp/B009410JOI
  8. Just that he was done with Tom Johnston style of music- I gather he's just not into rock like China Grove. The other things I've read was that he didn't want to be on the road as much as the band is year after year, which is why he left the second time. Yes I've seen he gigs in Nor Cal. I'm a massive fan of his bass playing, just stellar! It's always a bummer when someone doesn't seem too proud or into the body of work they have done. There's an interview where Dio just slams the Rainbow Rising album, their finest effort, just amazing he would say it's nothing.
  9. Tiran on the AXSTV doc was a real downer about the Doobies' music. Didn't seem interested in it at all. He's such a key part of those early songs like Long Train Running. Just brilliant. It's sad to see he has such a bad attitude about it.
  10. I remember that 30 plus year old keyboard article on David Paich and Steve Porcaro and thinking they were just total geniuses knowing how to run all that gear. But they explained it as " but we read all the manuals". There it is!
  11. The biggest joke of all is when they inducted Deep Purple and left out the original bass player, when the rule is the originals always get in. Nick Simper is on the first three albums. By this logic his band mate Rod Evans shouldn't have been in. They make no sense. And a hall without Paul Rodgers (who isn't in for Free or Bad Co)...is truly a hall of shame. But they are now nominating Whitney and Biggie before Paul. Really????
  12. Man fooled me... she's back ! 18 years ago.
  13. I am single and not tied down, so I get to go out a lot, most nights when I'm not working on a Friday or Saturday. I have a few bands I like to see from friends on Facebook. If I don't know the band I try to check them out before hand to see if it's worth it. If it's the same old Play That Funky Music Get Down Tonight Brown Eyed Girl band I am not going.
  14. I'm a huge Don Airey fan so I'd have a hard time passing up that show! Just saw Don and DP last night in Riverside, really he is the star of the show at this point. He seems to get better and better every year. His latest album One of A Kind is a terrific album- a lot like DP and Rainbow- terrific melodic hard rock with stellar vocals and guitar work, great songs with Don's awesome keyboard playing. And I'm a huge Steve Morse fan, and the rest are still killing it. Ian Paice is a wonder and Ian Gillan still sings well. I missed the close up cameras they had in 2017, showing things like Don's hands on the keyboards on big screens behind the stage- that was awesome. Blackmore is my favorite musician too- but he quit the band. There's no way he would be doing the amount of dates DP does even at the reduced level they tour. He semi retired. So the right decision in getting Steve was done. He is terrific. And sadly Blackmore can barely play anymore anyway due to age.
  15. Without restarting the whole mono stereo house debate.. For that piano to sound good, you need to monitor this in stereo for your monitors . So get another DXR and place one on the left and one on the right.
  16. I agree for most things. Some things a bass guitar just nails better. I saw a funk band recently where the guy on bass was just using a Moog. It was amazing.
  17. I knew him and worked with him and am very sad to hear this. I know he had been ill and I had seen the updates on Facebook. I always held up hope for the best. He was a super nice guy. Very glad he found good work in DC after his music technology career.
  18. The quote from Roy I saw was that the BTR sessions just went on for 16 hours a day with endless retakes and that Danny wasn't an endless retakes 16 hour a guy type of player and didn't have the attention span for it. Danny was still in the band.
  19. Aw that's what they did... pretty cool! One interesting thing I learned recently being in a Bruce tribute (I'm a fan also) and looking stuff up is that Roy did all of the keyboards on the Born To Run album- except for the Born To Run song- which does have Danny. So those Danny like organ bits on Backstreets that I always thought were Danny- or the organs on Jungleland- all Roy! And on the song BTR is Boom Boom Carter on drums, which I always assumed was Max- who is on the rest of the album.
  20. Thanks!!! I knew I should have searched for a video.. google is our friend lol.
  21. I play this in a band. The high end organ sound on this doesn't sound like a B3 on this song and it's driving me crazy trying to figure it out if it is or is it a Combo organ like a Farfisa. I know there's a lot of B3 experts on here- what is this? [video:youtube]
  22. We are playing at our hottest venue this weekend in Palm Springs, it's outside but later in eve. Going to try get in the gym more this week as it helps alot. A friend posted a weather screenshot from there sat so it's going to be scorching.
  23. [q But I'm amazed that places like Sweetwater and Amazon are selling the Motif Rack XS as a new unit, when the Yamaha site says it is discontinued, and the unit was originally released over a decade ago. I guess rackmount sound modules just aren't a thing anymore, huh? For me, it makes perfect sense, because I run my wireless mic (Countryman/Sennheiser) and guitar rig (Fractal Audio) directly into my rack. All I do is pop open the rack, plug in, and I'm good to go. So that is my hope with whatever unit I purchase. Plug the keyboard into the module in the rack, and be off and running. If I can find something used that has the sounds I want at a good price point, that will make my day. What do you recommend, with these sounds, in the $500 price range you mentioned above? They are selling it because it's still a current product to be sold as new. According to Yamaha the website is in error and the rack is in stock and is NOT discontinued. So buying the XS Rack new with a full one year warranty is an option for someone if needed.
  24. This is a good website for tips on how to get through all the prompts. https://gethuman.com/
  25. No overdubs... I didn't know what I was talking about. There's tons of videos showing it and they help alot.
