  1. Yes, this album was recorded in 1958 with a single-speed Leslie (fast/stop) ... two-speed Leslies (fast/slow) were introduced in 1963. These can be stopped by unplugging the slow motors (which gives fast/stop) or by installing a brake kit (which gives fast/slow/stop). In this performance from 1964, he uses a two-speed Leslie on slow and switches to fast for the final chord ... [video:youtube] ... and in this one from 1969, he does the same, but with no chorus vibrato. [video:youtube] Thanks for posting these.
  2. I was pretty much screwed by them before they went out of business with hardware issues and them not wanting to help because I bought it used and "who knows what the prior owner did do it". Best of luck. Mine is a paperweight. I should try rebuilding it as a windows box or something!
  3. These are stock harmonica sounds in the FA series: 247 Harmonica Harmonica 248 Harmo Blues Harmonica 249 BluesHarp Harmonica 250 Hillbillys Harmonica I've never used any of them so I can't attest to their quality. My S70XS had one that bent up with velocity.
  4. It depends on the update. Firmware fixes, updated extra voices, etc.
  5. I had one for a while, it is a nice board. One of the best feeling weighted actions out there.
  6. I had a non musician friend who turned me onto all kinds of great stuff. We'd go to his house after school around 9th grade or so and he'd have Gentle Giant, Genesis, Yes, Floyd. He turned me onto Herbie Hancock, Chick/RTF, McCoy Tyner. The guy had not a single musical ability but had all these fantastic albums. They had the obligatory piano in the living room that no one played but me. I cut my teeth on that thing. I even paid to have it tuned.
  7. And it's something that is completely adjustable with ease. I'm not sure why you are posting this in a Mojo thread to begin with.
  8. "the interface was daunting". I agree, pressing and holding a percussion button on the front panel, using the parameter knob to adjust the percussion level, then hitting the up arrow to get to the decay parameters can be daunting. A Motif is so much easier.
  9. last Monday. Got a deal too good to pass up so I jumped on it.
  10. Make sure you get that sample for the beginning of Sledgehammer!
  11. This. http://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/default/files/files/products/nord-electro-5/images/Models-Electro-5D-73.jpg
  12. BG, it's this attachment here: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/2ndTier It attaches into the back of the 2nd tier. It's pretty stable but the weld holding one of the side knobs broke in the 1st week I had it. It's not really needed with the light keyboard, but does give a little side to side stability. I need to get a friend to weld it back for me.
  13. Here's my latest live setup for my Floyd band. Hammond SK1 on the bottom, FA08 in the middle, Nord Lead A1 up top. In the rack is a Behringer line mixer, stereo EQ, and a Ventilator mounted on the bottom. Speakers are JBL Eon 610's. The small mixer on top of the rack is used to control the level for sound effects going to the house, as I have to fade some of them in and out. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/dan88z/EchoesRig_zps0phyl1rb.jpg
  14. Picked up a Lester K Leslie sim to try out with my SK1 for gigs where I don't use my rack (where my Vent is mounted). I used it at a gig last week and was sort of meh, it thins out a lot in the top end, but I'll give it some time and see how it works in some of my more normal rooms vs the reception hall place we were playing. The one downside is the connectors are all on the sides so without angled cables it has a big footprint under my rig, I had to set it outside my stand to get enough room for it.
  15. Actually, fat organ sounds can be easily had with the SK. For Jim's sound, I had to boost up the level of the patch itself. His EQ setting is flat with a big dip in the mids (if I recall correctly). Go to the EQ menu, the 1st parameter is the drawbar level. Bump that up. Mine is around +7. I left the bass and treble flat and the mid is set at -4. Jims sound is pretty clean, more of a jazz sound. It's not my go to rock tone, I have a couple other programs for that that are hotter level wise and with added overdrive. (I like the EP amp for over drive, it's a little smoother than the other types.) What you do with the Leslie parameters can also help get that big fat sound.
  16. actually you can assign anything to the knobs, there is one setting in that matrix that is user parameters. You have to go into the studio set setup and assign them there. Page 39 and 99 of the manual.
  17. My thought was banging knobs with your knees or something. Doing a 3 tier with space for my rack would be killer for my Floyd band, have it all in 1 place and easy to move on and off stage with some wheels.
  18. I like that setup! Do you bang your legs against the rack at all? Is there any height adjustment on the stand or is it in a fixed position?
  19. I bought one of the Roland JP08's from the KC garage sale. Fun little piece of gear. When I get time I'm going to pair it up with my Novation controller.
  20. I used to load mine alone- even up steps. Put handles on the sides, then pick it up and rest the top against your torso and lever it up into the vehicle. If you are going to gig with it, you can't worry about the finish-it's going to get screwed up.
  21. I sold my K10 to a local guy, so I turned over the funds and finally invested in some hard cases for my Nord and Hammond. The PF band is going to be doing more travelling and there will be times when my gear goes in a trailer with the rest of the band's gear, so I wanted to make sure these were better protected than the soft bags I currently have. I found a place on ebay that had "scratch and dents", picked up the Nord case for $119. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/a/(KGrHqJ,!n4E9c-jnUi4BP(16IrJjQ~~/s-l500.jpg Spent a little more on the Hammond case, it's not a 2nd and is a little different style. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/L6gAAOSw7I5TwXFK/s-l1600.jpg the Nord case should be here today. The Hammond case is made to order so it'll take a few extra days.
  22. The tweeter is very subtle. Take a string sound or other sound with a lot of highs in it and play with the tweeter volume, you'll hear it.
  23. Sounds like a nice rig Tony. It should last you a couple months before you change it all out again! My latest purchases- Nord Lead A1 back in January, and 2 JBL Eon 610 speakers last week.
  24. Mine works fine for me as an everything solution to my one-man rig -- CP4, SR-18 drum machine, and TC Helicon for vocals. I do need to use a small sub, though, because the SSv3 doesn't have quite enough bottom (for me, anyway) with the drums, even in fairly quiet settings. I could see it working in a 1 man band setting, but not as a vocal monitor with the amp behind you in a louder band setting.
