  1. Love those schmaltzy organ tones! Question: Why the names of the notes above the keys? Seems folks who play those things would pretty much have that figured out.
  2. Seems like a good time to trot out this gem, from a Cragslist ad a while back. Warning: NSFW I'll Play For Free (But Someone Will Pay) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Date: 2012-07-27, 12:39PM MDT Reply to: rgnfg-3166841261@comm.craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'll gladly do this show with a couple of buddies. Here's how it's going to go: We're going to bring a deluxe reverb with two pedals, a Yamaha bass amp and a tiny drum set, one microphone and one powered behringer speaker - it all fits in a minivan and it will sound fine for a bunch of tossers on a backyard porch. We're pros. We know 200 plus songs between us. We'll make it sound good enough. But, here's the dig - we're all decent looking skinny guys in our thirties and... we are gigging musicians. We are going to suck up your booze so fast you'll think you were struck by alcoholic locusts. And then, we're going to outwardly and openly hit on every single upright piece of puzzy that dares enter the property. If they dance, they're getting a guitar between the thighs, at least. We're going to comment on their breasts, their butts, their dance moves, their honky tonk badonkadonk, etc., We'll try to coax them in to a back bathroom for a little oratory or in to the bedroom for a little stinky. If their fat boyfriends or husbands object, oh well. It's ladies choice - and it's doubtful we'll ever see these people again. Besides, we have to get something for our time - it's sex, drugs and rock and roll after all. One of us will find some over-served, already committed soccer mom who wants to relive her glory days in the back of our minivan... it happens at every show. Or, you could just pay us a couple hundred bucks, get a professional sound system, a professional attitude and leave the police and attorneys out of it. What time should we show up?
  3. Same, although I rotate among Stella, Grolsch, Pilsner Urquell, and Peroni. What’s the best kind of beer? An open one.
  4. I intentionally play out only 2-4 times per month, among three different bands; my long-time (going on 43 years) classic rock/80’s/dance band, a “quasi-prog” diva project, and another classic rock/80s/alternative/party band. The leaders of each band generally book the gigs, my job is largely just to show up and play. I turn down all offers involving extensive travel, low pay, and less desirable/PITA venues. While I don’t play out all that often, it’s self-regulated, so I’m good with that. With a demanding day job, I’m otherwise content to stay home and sit on the couch.
  5. +1 Busch’s/Purgatory Creek’s Mark I is phenomenal.
  6. I’m sure this has been brought up in other threads, but I wish Moog had come out with a more affordable poly, along the lines of the OB-6 and P-6. Maybe the new owners will recognize this gap in their product line.
  7. I also played that Seven at Gearfest a few years ago. I used to gig a Rhodes Mark I many years ago, and have played most of the contenders (e.g., Nord, Yamaha, Korg, Roland). I found the Seven to be the closest to playing a real Rhodes, both in terms of sound and action. It was a rather uncanny experience.
  8. Just did the donation thing via PayPal, it all went smoothly. Thanks for setting up the "one-time" option, dB. I look at it as playing a gig for this place. I don't do any social media, except here, for all of the reasons everyone has mentioned, but mostly for the wonderful friendships I have made over the years.
  9. With my “B-Rig” it’s all about simplicity. No small mixer to hook up (among other things). When my Barbetta started to become noisy, I got the KDX15. Much heavier, but I can still get everything into my Honda Accord.
  10. I have kept mine, as well. It was the gold standard of Leslie sims for many years.
  11. I have a Behringer KXD15 I use with my “B-rig” for rehearsals, pick-up gigs, backyard parties, etc. The sound quality is not nearly as good as my EV powered speaker, and probably weighs just as much, if not heavier. But for the stated purpose, it works nicely. Lots of bang for your buck.
  12. Tim Capello I always enjoyed watching this madman perform with Tina. Excellent sax player.
  13. I’ve always been partial to female lead singers, having been in a band with one for over 40 years. Tina was always my favorite, and my wife got me (us) a pair of tickets to see her live about 20 years ago for a birthday present. Man, did she ever bring it. RIP Tina.
  14. I use one of these for pick-up gigs. Still rather heavy (49.4 lbs.) but according to my math 14.5 lbs. lighter than a KC-600 yet 12.9 lbs. heavier than the Fender Rumble. Not sure if it sounds better/worse than the other two, never tried either of them. https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0AZY
  15. Got that one beat, from many years ago. Lady drives up to the toll booth to pay a $0.45 cent toll. Puts the car in park. Takes out her purse. Opens the purse, from which she reprieves a smaller coin purse. Opens the coin purse, counts out the toll (takes forever). Rolls down the window, and hands it to the attendant. Rolls up the window. Puts coin purse back into larger purse. Closes larger purse. Puts car in drive, and goes on her oblivious, merry way. I'm solidly a Type-A personality. Thought my head was going to
  16. For corporate gigs, we wear black dress pants, black dress shirt, and black tie. Our female singer brings the pizzazz/sexy. For weddings, historically we wore black tuxedos, but now it’s same as the corporate threads.
