Docbop
12 Tone makes some really interesting Youtubes on music. His videos are not only information but visually too. A lot of 80's fans here so this should be of interest to many of you. [video:youtube]
Reezekeys
My hand cramped up watching that, but in general I click with every single point made. Well done. I also just got hip to curiosity stream and was thinking of checking it out so I'm real glad you posted this â I'll probably take advantage of that discount signup offer! And BTW I still use the DX e-piano sound. At lower velocities it sounds warm and vibes-like, and real nice with certain chord voicings. Once you dig in, then yea â you definitely risk evoking that somewhat corny 80s power-ballad keyboard sound.
Husker
I know it isn't a popular opinion around here, but I love those cheesy 80's FM tines / E Piano sounds....
Tom Williams
I loved his illustration of the Jupiter 8 at about 3:08. However, I disagree with his assessment of the DX-7 being disconnected from the player due to the digital interface -- its intuitive expressiveness -- velocity control over both volume and timbre -- were primary factors in its popularity with players. Josh Paxton
However, I disagree with his assessment of the DX-7 being disconnected from the player due to the digital interface -- its intuitive expressiveness -- velocity control over both volume and timbre -- were primary factors in its popularity with players. I only skimmed the video so I missed that part, but is it possible he was talking about the interface making people feel disconnected in terms of programming rather than playing? I could see a much stronger case for that.
