I won't bore you with the unnecessary details, but we have a new server host and a new owner. MusicPlayer Network is no longer affiliated with the various defunct magazines that made up its roster.
There was some real debate as to whether this group was going to be migrated (by debate, I mean they asked me if they should migrate it, and I had to think about it). I've never been one to believe that a forum can grow in any way except for organically. But ever since that one glitch a couple years ago, we have been limping along. I will admit to long pockets of not actually being in the Lowdown except to make sure there's no spam, porn, or Wishbasses (I'm kidding). I'm happy, more than happy, to commit to being your active, engaged admin, but we all have to start participating a bit more. But I will lead by example, and you guys can choose to do what you like. I'm not saying that disbanding the Lowdown is good or bad, nor is sustaining it inherently a good thing if it just clutters up the forum list as a dead fish.
So I will post more interesting stuff about bass, and I invite you to do or not do what you feel is appropriate. I just don't want anyone to be surprised no matter what happens.
Maybe some folks on here who may be in touch with members who migrated over to some of the other bass forums during the glitch could invite them back? The recent changes have insured that the platform isn't going anywhere.

Acoustic/Electric stringed instruments ranging from 4 to 230 strings, hammered, picked, fingered, slapped, and plucked. Analog and Digital Electronic instruments, reeds, and throat/mouth.
Zeronyne, thanks for your efforts. I always said we are one server upgrade away from being gone but I guess we scraped by another one for now. This is the closest thing to social media I participate in so I'd probably drop off the radar once it's gone.
I really have to figure out a place to post some gear pics so I can share. I've gotten a bunch of cool, though not very expensive, gear over the past four years that I haven't shared.
I should really be practicing. I don't know for what, but I should.
If you think my playing is bad, you should hear me sing!

As some of you may have guessed from the unusual amount of global posts with my name on them, I‘m one of the people who helped arrange for the forums to separate from the magazines.
The bottom line is that we wanted these communities to not only be able to continue to survive, but to hopefully evolve and grow into a useful and fun resource by musicians, for musicians...kind of “the inmates running the asylum” sort of thing.
We’ve been lucky enough to have some of the original MPN moderators and forums return, and have already had a few new friends join the community. It should be fun to see where things go over the next few months.
Thanks for the support of those who started this place and have kept it alive over the years!
I come here every now and again. I miss the "good old days" as I cut my teeth here. Got lots of good advice, took a lot of ribbing over my decisions, and it has been a great place. I moderate on "another" forum where I aols went after "the glitch" here. I'll try to come around, but it's hard to get back what once was.
Guess I've been out of the loop. Didn't know about the changes. I check in sporadically and not as much as I did. Hoping this NEW forum thrives and survives.
This was my first group, invited by Bob G after some very interesting discussions re: upright bass. It's true - you never forget your -first-. I continue to check in here every morning to see what's what and who's who and I'll try to contribute more when time permits. Thanks to Dave and 09 for keeping the joint jumping, and to those stalwarts who keep renaming their bands.
Sweet Willie? Tom C? So many I'm not seeing here...
I am, every now and then.
But musically, I am not too active. And on a personal level, my significant other and I decided after a 20-year run, that the time has come to go solo. Interesting times ahead...
Hey, y'all, good to see this forum back up and running. I stopped playing for a while but have started practicing again. I will check in more often now!

So, I thought I would check it out after a VERY long time. So long that the email address was with an ISP that went bankrupt 15 years ago. And my saved password was older than that. That I remembered the password and ID is a certifiable miracle.
Wow. What IS that smell? My first visit to the forum in ... oh ... I have no idea. Years. Some familiar names. Got into a discussion about Pastorius with someone running a CL ad for a bassist and got me to thinking the discussion on this forum about the iconic jazz bassists. Guess I need to lock down an avatar again.
