Just looking at that and some of the other pedals in this thread, it seems we’re THIS close to being able to recreate all of the psychedelic sounds of 1960-1990, only using guitarists!

People forget that the Grateful Dead were very forward-looking, in terms of tech. Yeah, I know, bunch of old hippies . . .

Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia were among the first players to take up the E-Bow, they were both early adapters of MIDI/Synth Guitar, In-ear monitor systems, and of course, there was the notorious "Wall Of Sound", a great concept, not so practical for a band that made most of its money touring. Bobby was also one of the first American artists to perform with a high-quality Japanese Guitar (the Ibanez Artist) at a time when American Guitar companies were pushing back hard against Japanese competition.

As someone who's been gigging as a solo singer/songwriter for well over a decade, I'm pretty f-n intrigued by this:

That's prrretty snazzy, Hugo! Nice. That could be a lot of fun and very useful. The gentleman suggests making a virtual 'band' at home, but I imagine this to be very useful for gigs, solo or with small groups.

This is essentially one part of the Super Wizard, the Pitch Shifting part. I'd just missed one of these at my FLUMS, and when I saw another on the GC Used listings, I had to order it. Should be here any day now, so I'll have a full report, but for now . . .

Just picked up a Danelectro Big Spender rotary speaker emulator. So far, it seems pretty realistic sounding..

You're gonna have a LOT of fun with that! I love LOVE love Leslie/rotary sounds, especially when ramping up and down in speed. And that Big Spender sounds great! I really like how it has a lot of pitch-bend warble when going high-speed. It sounds more Fender/Leslie Vibratone/single-speaker than Leslie 147/etc. top-and-bottom dual-driver, and that can be a GOOD thing; more SRV than Clapton.

To be honest, I must have glossed over some of the features in the Super Wizard, because this is essentially the same effect, without the added Delay.

Given my perverse nature, I'd been looking at Pitch-Altering boxes like the Rainbow Machine, and the Arpanoid, rather than a straight-up Pitch Shifter or Harmonizer. (The Rainbow Machine is surprisingly popular for such an oddball effect; I see them on a lot of pedalboards.) The Wizard appealed, in part, because I can't really emulate it with any of my other Pitch-Shift effects, not even my Studio 5000 (the last iteration of the DHP-66). It can easily get as weird as the Rainbow Machine, but it can also be subtle, which I appreciate.

Once the Wizard arrives, I'll be nearly done with the 21st Century 'board. Waiting for the Earthquaker Data Corruptor (next month?), and the Malekko Sneak Attack (maybe early Summer), and I'm done.

If you haven’t tried a Rainbow Machine, do. The Arpanoid is like a kooky, quirky uncle, but the RM is the cousin who needs to be committed.

The Rubberneck has my attention, as I'd been looking for a true Analog Delay. Previous contender was the JHS Panther Cub V2.

Nice pedal, compact footprint, but nothing in it as crazy as the Rubberneck feature. Not sure how often I'd use that particular feature, but . . .

I've been checking out the stuff from Dwarfcraft, and this thing is just . . . yeah, it's like that. If you want to de-construct your Guitar signal, or pretty much anything else you run through it, the Grazer will more than do the job. I'm torn between this and the Earthquaker Data Corrupter?

Can't bring myself to watch 2 hours of that, but one thing I notice right away: it looks an awful lot like recent Line 6 products.

One real problem with this unit is the price: at $1000, it's more than twice the price of any of its predecessors. I think a lot of players who would be looking at this are going to think hard about what kind of effects rig they could put together for that same $1000?

In fairness, I'd like to sit down with one to compare sounds, and programming ease. In that Line 6 thread, it seemed like it was very hard to navigate the menus. which was already a complaint with the previous GT processors. If this thing is even more difficult to program than say, the GT-10, it'll die a quick and costly death on the market.

If I were committed to the Line 6 Helix processor line, this would look like an imitation, not an innovation: to be perfectly honest, it already does, or I wouldn't have brought up the similarity.

Boss/Roland have brought out some expensive "white elephant" products before, this may turn out to be another. Sorry to see this, as I was a huge fan of Boss/Roland products for decades. Yes, past tense. While I still use and rely on the Boss/Roland gear I already have, some of which has been around a long time, I have not bought a new piece of Boss/Roland gear in several years, possibly more? The last 'new' Boss product that interested me was the Waza Craft RI of the VB-2 Vibrato: again, not exactly an innovation.

I knew Jamie a bit when he was the guitarist in Party of Helicopters and the drummer in New Terror Class and I'd promote shows for his bands when he'd pass through town... nice and very cool and talented guy. Glad he has found great success with Earthquaker Devices!

A few weeks ago a buddy asked me to be on standby to fill in with his wedding/private party band because their guitarist was having some health complications, sent a songlist that I brushed up on...

three weeks ago he finally told me he needed me for that Saturday for a party... he sent the details that afternoon, and when I said something about having a sore throat said "oh, no... I need you to sing..." Okay, herbal remedies and load up the iPad with lyrics on short notice. Then he asks about my keyboard playing... my reply: "I wouldn't hire me to play anything on the fly." Okay, well guitar. I show up... and the other guitarist is set up... I'm confused... I find out that I'm subbing for my buddy, the keyboardist who plays guitar on some of the set. "I don't have a keyboard with me..." "He said you'd pull it off, anyway, with guitar." Luckily I still had my Organizer + Dano Leslie pedal on my board, along with a DOD Ring Modulator that I know how to get synthy sounds out of... left over from an original band gig, plus a few tricks I know with the Deluxe Memory Boy... I became a organist on guitar for most of the gig and even got a little Bernie Worrel-ish on some of the funky dance numbers. It was fun... I went home and instantly ordered a couple of the Electro Harmonix 9 series pedals... the Key9 (electric piano) and Synth9 pedals... and will probably give in and get the Mel9 Mellotron pedal soon. They didn't arrive in time for the gig a week later with the same band: a Cinco De Mayo thing that was looser and more rock-oriented, but I had a few guys come up and ask if I was midi-ing things with my guitar ("how are you playing organ solos on your Strat?") or where the keyboard was hidden...

Anyway, to the EHX pedals... fantastic. Triggered all of the electric piano radio songs of my childhood... my wife has asked me to stop playing Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are"... I've had people tell me these pedals "are worthless" but I knew to ignore their verdict, because while they're good rock or blues players, they probably plug into them and bang away on open chords or otherwise play like a guitarist (as do most of the amateur demo vids on youtube) and if you have to think like the instrument setting you're using. Playing the parts of my musical hero Donald Fagen on the "Suitcase" setting on the Key9 (Fender Rhodes plus Phase) makes my heart sing... dialing in the Wurlitzer sounds and running through Supertramp or Monkees songs is a blast. And even plugging my synth into them and running the clean piano sound through them gives great results... as a frustrated keyboardist wannabe (my mother is a pianist and piano teacher... I begged as a child for piano lessons, but my dad wouldn't allow it, forcing me to be a horn player... something that still angers me because if I had followed his wishes and gone to college to major in music I would have had to learn piano, anyway... I think it was some weird thing fighting my mother's influence in his mind...) this not only makes me happy to be able to create those songs and playing styles on guitar, it also, of course, starts clarifying things technique-wise on the keys... if only I had the time to practice my left hand key skills these days... I haven't had tons of time to play with the Synth9 yet, but it instantly gives you the classic synth models as presets... and then I bought an Arturia MicroBrute synth a while ago just because You can plug a guitar into it and use the filters as an effects system.

Anyway, EHX Key9 and Synth9 pedals = GREAT and FUN!!! Excuse if they've been covered already in this massive thread.
