I have always wanted a µWave I, this is almost (but not quite) up there with the Moog Reissue as far as a dream synth for me.

Manual supposedly mentions an expansion option to double the polyphony to 16. Might want to check yourself, because you know some like to prank.. Download manual here:

A decent re release of the MicroWave XT.

I actually like the sound of the filters, but from an innovation standpoint this is a way for people to see what they missed 25 years ago.

 

Let"s see, a new Waldorf or a Hydrasynth Deluxeâ¦..ASM hands down.

That's about $2,2000 USD, so after admiring the rightful Waldorf pedigree, it depends on how many wavetable synths you need. (I know, you need 5 of everything and 12 analogs in particular.)

 

In my use of them, I've found that the method defines the sound less than FM or pure analog. Its been about how readily you can manipulate them to taste, because they're rather pure at first. They're useful in part because the analog-style operations you can apply lead to unexpected worlds. I think the audio is of a slightly higher order than you hear from other makers, which feels a bit expected, but that helps make up for it looking like an old sci-fi prop. The displays are a compensating bright spot, being crisp and immediate.

 

I feel as if Pigments does all of the wavetable work I need, especially with version 3. There are bits of that sound realm that also pop up in corners of Alchemy and Chromaphone. If you're a Serum devotee, you've been there for a while already. That's where the software versions took off. So this is more like the old glory built to a 2021 spec.

I just saw the email announcement but hadn't had a chance yet to check whether it's a Virtual Instrument or a hardware synth. Glad it's the latter! I once owned a used Microwave XT (final edition with all firmware upgrades applied), and it was probably my favourite of the five Waldorf hardware synths that I owned at one time or another. Never warmed to the quirky interface though, which I also found rather glitchy. This sounds like it might have a more full sounding filter as well.

I was super excited when I saw this. Until I saw the price. I stupidly traded in my Microwave XT several years ago. It was in great condition and would now be worth a fortune (about the same as this new synth). And it had two more voices (although it didn't have the analogue filter)

I'm not as excited after listening to the second sounds demo -- thin sounding. The initial overview demo had me impressed by the new 24 dB filter. I do notice that it seems to include the PPG Wave 3.2 waves though, so that might be an incentive.

I'm definitely keeping it on the radar, on account of the PPG Wave 3.2 compatibility. I suspect the second set of demos focused a bit on the thinner Microwave XT sounds that I didn't as much care for the first time around (when I owned the hardware).

The M has been bumped up to 16 Voice. 
 

Current owners can crack their’s open and plop in an expansion.
