microkorgxc
So, my friend (who is a dj) asked me if I would want to start a "group" with him. I gladly accepted, and we are planning to do the band showcase at my school next year, which is where everyone plays, and winner wins some money, and usually some publicity. But the main problem is, we don't know where to start, a dj and a keyboardist trying to make music, would anyone have any ideas at all? please let me know
Bridog6996
That sounds like a project with very cool possibilities. I couldn't really tell you where to start. The versatility of keyboards and the sheer resources available to a turntablist could bring you in any direction you want to go. My approach would probably be to sit down and try jamming with him and see what develops organically. If that doesn't seem to be working, then you can try taking a more focused approach. A friend of a friend who is a DJ has a similar "group." He plays with a sax player under the name Two Turntables and a Saxophone. Check out their myspace page . You might get some ideas. midinut
I might suggest you read, listen, google and study artist such as Moby, BT, Black Eyed Peas, etc. and see what they are doing incorporating keys and turntables. Or ... be different and do something completely different than they are doing. Be unique. It does open up some interesting possibilities though! Good luck! captainmri
Try doing some covers of any genre arranged for synth and dj. It might give you an idea how well you work together. chip
