Bill Heins
Even though I prefer Premiata Forneria Marconi I still have a special place in my heart for Banco! It sounds like these songs have been remastered...just hearing little extras and the mixes are very clear! Have you any inside info on any Italian upcoming prog groups to look out for? Bill Heins
Picked up Nudo as well...just some incredible material! Darkon the Incandescent http://www.billheins.com/ Hail Vibrania!
marino
La Storia is great, but a bit disjointed, since it contains material from different eras... Nudo is much better, Roma/Tokyo blows my mind every time! I still listen periodically to the third album, Io Sono Nato Libero, to me one of the best prog albums of all time. Their lyrics are exceptional too... heads and shoulder over typical bombastic/abstract prog lyrics. There are good young prog groups in Italy, like DFA or Capolinea, but in my view, nobody approach the freshness, talent and virtuosity of Premiata and Banco. Maybe one just tends to love the music of his own adolescence...
Bill Heins
Thanks for the headsup on DFA and Capolinea, I'll have to check them out! We may not get to re-live our youth but we can certainly continue to listen to the music that shaped who we have become Darkon the Incandescent http://www.billheins.com/ Hail Vibrania! Odyssian
I saw DFA at Nearfest, back in....2000(?). They were absolutely fantastic. I'm not very familiar with Banco. I've heard a song or two on the net radio station/s that I listen to. I liked what I heard very much. Regarding net radio - Radio Mirage plays some GREAT stuff, but the sound quality isn't that great. One of the bands that I've recently heard on a net station is a band called Wobbler. These guys have quickly earned a spot on my all time favorites list. That hasn't happened in a loooooong time. Check 'em out if you're a fan of Gentle Giant, ELP, and other prog bands from that era. Nobody today....but I don't know how many have heard the "Area" when the incredible singer Demetrio Stratos was alive....for me they have been the best italian group of all times, for creativity, sounds, virtuosity, energy and originality. I desperately tried to find anything video of them, I only found some performance-lessons-theater on voice by Demetrio Stratos really worth watching: a song also made with Area but here alone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d234nBoaD0 a lesson on modelling ethnic flute sounds with voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYpqxWQPtZM a theatrical "reading " of Artaud: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP0_MqFfYNE Guess the Amp .... now it's finished... Here it is!
