  1. Both my guitars have issues right now but I have a musician friend around the block who'll let me borrow one of his guitars to finish the album...mostly leads! Bill
  2. Hey Craig, it's about 200-300 a year....strictly streaming income...maybe if I took the time to self promote I can get that number up...after I'm retired I will Gonna get into video as well, I have some basic 2d and 3d skills... Bill
  3. I get quarterly payments from CDBaby...not enough to buy a Latin America country but more than enough to starve on First release was 6 years ago and the second was 3 years ago....working on finishing the third release and looking to retire at the end of the year so gonna try moving from a release every 3 years to every year....and maybe some promotion too! Bill
  4. Yikes! I won't touch anything under 320bit but I don't use streaming services Bill
  5. I haven't seen a 128bit Mp3 in years...it's usually at 320bit or 320bit VBR. Don't forget Sony Betamax was smaller than VHS and stereo early on but people still preferred VHS. Bill
  6. I use this for file transfers from PC to Android and vice versa from my phone...I've never used a cable - CX File Explorer Bill
  7. Rick Wakeman...one of the two reasons why as a keyboard player I play guitar Bill
  8. I'm a one man do everything setup so my parts are performances and my performances are parts I get what Craig is saying and I agree...just not as cut and dried as I'd like my process to be! Bill
  9. I have my plugins and instruments sorted by company in Nuendo...next stop is sorting into categories in each folder I've been working like this for a few years now so the next sort might be a while away Bill
  10. No comps here, if it's no good it gets tossed and I try again Bill
  11. Believe it or not, not every PC comes from Walmart at 300.00 I spent quite a bit on a build last year and it is fairly powerful....i91200k running at 5.2ghz, 128gb of RAM, dual Lan, TB4, USB 3.2 and 2, room for 4 ssd and 8hdd...yadda yadda. Do the work and you can have a killer machine! So far I have tried running 4-6 instances of Diva in "God Mode" and it doesn't break a sweat Bill
  12. Mono 6 string guitar played three times with three different pickup settings panned L, R, and C. Center channel is more for a simplified version of the rhythm at a lower volume. All three tracks are sent to a stereo Guitar Buss for compression, delay, verb, etc. 12 string guitar I record stereo each pickup setup at L67, R67, C. 12 string tracks go to a 12 String Stereo Buss for the same reasons as the 6 string. Bass Guitar is mono and centered. Drums...bass, snare, toms, and hihat are mono..crash cymbals, room and OH mics are stereo. Kick centered, Snare slightly right, etc. to place the dums in a listener position. Drums go to a stereo Drum Buss that has 2 FX Sends to seperate Compression(crushed!) and Reverb Busses. Bill
  13. No I have 2 separate SSDs, a 1TB for Windows, Programs, plugins. etc. and a second 2TB drive for my projects. I also use 4 hdds for sample libraries and an external for backup until I burn to bluray. All told I'm sitting on 18TB of room I can add 2 more SSD's to the motherboard or 1 SSD and 4 more hdds...not worried about space here Bill
  14. Here's a quick...and I do mean quick read- https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/usa/en/blog/what-is-high-resolution-audio The picture is explanation enough Bill
  15. I've never lost data but I don't use Pro Tools so I don't know if you can configure it the way I work. I use Nuendo and on an SSD I have a folder called Nuendo Projects. Every Nuendo project I create has it's own folder in the Nuendo Projects folder. Inside every one of those individual project folders contains the project, an audio folder, a mixdown folder, etc. I can move that folder anywhere I want and if I open the project file in that folder everything is always there. I backup to bluray so at any time in the future I can move that folder back to the PC and the project will open up no problem. One thing I do that helps future proof is at the end I render all Midi tracks to audio so there is only audio...though now I'm starting to copy the Midi files to plain Midi tracks so I can always use them again with the latest and greatest midi instruments at that time I don't lose files or have latency issues but I built a system strictly for audio work....hopefully you can sort out your issues because a good running DAW is a gift from the heavens! Bill
  16. I took it that the original poster was foregoing computer recording altogether and doing it all analog I know you can record any source to tape but if you use a computer as a sound source why wouldn't you record on it? I'd love to find out what the problems are and maybe we can figure them out for him Bill
  17. I'm with bill5 on this one! Last time I worked with other people was in an original prog band...I wound up paying for the rehearsal space, wrote all the material...even started piano lessons because we had a hard time finding a keyboardist and I had some basic skills and knowledge(I was playing just guitar at first)...now years later those piano lessons led to drum lessons and now I do everything myself in a home studio Bill
  18. Songwriting is easy....now song finishing is another story! Bill
  19. I started out on a Tascam PortaOne...4 tracks by using both sides of the casettetape Right now I use Nuendo, Wavelab, etc. I have no troubles in the digital world but I build my own machines, set all my project files to save to a seperate location for each project(all the files for Project X are in the Project X folder ), stay on top of software updates, etc. Right now I'm running an i91200k on an ASUS ProArt mb with 128GB of RAM, 18TB of storage(I'll wind up doubling it ), Thunderbolt 4(though I'm using a TB3 interface- Presonus Quantum 2626, Win11 Pro, yadda yadda! Also got a Motu Midi Express XT for midi connections. With that said all my audio runs through my old Mackie 1604VLZ...a little bit of analog noise on the way in ! Doing the music I do analog tape is not an option....classical, new age, hard rock, new age, celtic...mixed up of course! I can't picture the cost to house and feed a symphony orchestra to have on call any time I want to work Bill
  20. I've been 96khz 24bit for years! I'd rather dither down than add a bunch of zeros going up I see 192khz in my future! Bill
  21. Started a new piece last week and worked some more on it today...far from finished, needs guitar solos..french horns and tuba...etc. So anyways I wanted a copy for my phone and tablet so I threw some plugs on the master buss- Pulsar Audio 8200, Plugin Alliance Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor(Red), and then Oxford Limiter. Next export to .wav and I opened it in Sound Forge where I furthered my experiment...this time iZotope Vintage Tape and iZotope Vintage Limiter. The end result is here- https://www.reverbnation.com/daylight/song/34190708-going-homewip-no-gtr-solo Apologies for if you sit through this but I had fun! Bill
