You put that into a clonewheel, and produce it with no MIDI in, and the customers are going to start screaming regardless of how good it sounds. Having the MIDI in is a compromise that the manufacturers will probably keep in order to sell more units. They could conceivably set up a system where he tone is controlled through the MIDI in, and through the 9 contact keybed as well, but that would probably jack the price way up. I can't afford an XK-3 as it is, let alone if the price goes even higher. And for the price, the new B3 is just not that much better to justify the expense, weight, and stage footprint.
