KC Comps - Volume 7/8

Dave Bryce

Recommended Posts

I agree with RobT as well; trying to mix a couple of tunes gives me a headache at times, let alone a large number...

Dave, you are Mr. Grace, indeed! :D

I am sending mine out today. Thank you for the hard work you do on these projects, amidst all the other stuff on your plate...

Being new to this, how do we buy these? And when?

Oh yeah, and Dave, I agree, you're a Prince Among Men. :thu:

Daf

I played in an 8 piece horn band. We would often get bored. So...three words:

"Tower of Polka." - Calumet

I dunno yet - as mentioned previously, I'm looking to change how we've done it in the past. My current favorite option is detailed in the first post in this thread.

BTW - thanks for all the kudos, guys. It's greatly appreciated.

Dave,

I finally have time to work on a track and I'm hoping to have it wrapped up by the end of tomorrow - if there's still room by then, I'd love to be on this.

And please allow me to take some of the sequencing/mastering off your hands. I'd still be happy to take care of one or both CD's. :thu:

Bleen and Steve -

There's definitely room for both of you guys to submit tunes. Send 'em on over.

Bleen, I will definitely be calling on you to sequence and master one of the two discs. I'll send the stuff on up after I get all of the tunes in and split them into two volumes. Thanks! :thu:

well I tried but couldn't get my midi config to work well enough...latency problems and more...I'm close to giving up on trying to record with my laptop. I keep buying things that I think will work but none of them do.

damn frustrating this computer recording...damn

if I have time later today, I'll try and spell out the problems I was having...maybe some of you can help me get it working

I'm kind of surprised. I thought a computer guy like you would cruise through it. Are you on a PC or Mac?

I'm using a Dell PC laptop

I know what the problem is...I'm trying to use the soundcard that came built-in with my PC...I figured it would be fine for just midi stuff and it does work ok playing the soft-synths live...I just can't get it to record in CubaseSX properly.

I guess I've just got to buy a decent firewire or USB soundcard...I was trying to avoid that because I'm just doing really simple stuff but it's not working.

btw, yeah I'm pretty good with 'puters but haven't really set-up my own audio based system before, worked on lots of other people's stuff but the new toys are a bit different from what I expected...so I've been kind of a dummy and bought the wrong stuff.

I'm gonna get the right stuff...just gotta use my head.

Stephen, give the ASIO4ALL driver a try. Makes any internal sound card work flawlessly with Cubase SX :thu:
Thanks Roland, I'll definitly give that a try...I ended up doing my midi recording in Cakewalk 9 and then importing the midi into CubaseSX to finish...worked out but was kinda a drag to do.

BTW - it is March 15th...if you haven't mailed your submission in, today's the deadline to do so...

I hear ya Steve, I've resigned to using my laptop (Presario) for when I'm on the road only. Tried to sync it numerous times to my music setup running Acid or Absynth, and all it did was lock up all the time.

What we record in life, echoes in eternity.

Unless you can allow brutha bleen to add his track to the files you send up here to master, I'll gracefully bow out of this round - I'm not done enough with this tune today to add it to the list, but I'm more than happy to be part of the post process. :thu:

You ain't getting off the hook that easily, son. ;)

You can certainly add your tune to the volume you master. I'll keep that in mind time-wise when I finish divvying up the tracks. I'm already mostly done with that - I should be able to send you your half as soon as the stray tracks get here, hopefully by the end of the week.

Thanks, db! My piece will probably be fairly short - under 4:00, I think. :thu:

Okay -

The last two tunes are in (Steve L and Bunny).

I have divided the tunes up. I did it by basically starting at the first one on my hard drive, and alternating between volumes as I went down the list (one for vol. 7, one for vol. 8, one for vol. 7, etc.). Then, I had to move one or two tunes to make the times and track counts come out about even.

Here is the way things fell:

Volume 7:

No Walls in the Wind dB

Change your Mind Phil OKeefe

Centinela Gustrax

Porcupine Feet ksoper

Overheard at the Bog DanS

Arc of Perception mpeasley

Untitled - SteadyB

How was I to know b_3guy

You Cant Do That Guitplayer

Stop The Noizz Music*al

Theme and Variations Lincoln Ross

Toccata PatAzz

Shegar Ken/Eleven Shadows

On the Tonto Rim Roger Hooper

Kach Soundscape Studios

Viral Wave - Bunny K.

Total time: 1:04:51

Volume 8:

Wonderful High FrankieP

Just Hanging Jazzman

Monologue Jerry A

The Circus Markyboard

Take the Lead JeffIrok

Chasing Kai RobT

The Journey Llarion

Removable Chassis - Astor

Maui Vice mojazz

Lift Dafduc

Wednesday Marino

Almost What? Roland Genske

Cirrus Jardini (DTR)

Selena Walks DJDM

Tell Me A Story JimmieWannaB

Have A Laugh - Steve LeBlanc

? - Bleen

Total time (without Bleen's tune): 1:00:08. Bleen said his would be about 4:00, so the total should end up ~1:04:08

Bleen - I'll mail you up a master disc of Volume 8 tomorrow. All sequencing and mastering are your domain, my brother. Have fun!

Janet has started a painting for the cover. I haven't contacted anybody at Disc Masters. Seems like they're short runs don't have a liner. Thoughts. . .

I'm having trouble locating the short runs page now - the link in my oroginal post appears to not work any more.

Hmmm...

Bunny, thanks for the Americ Disc link - I'll have a look. The DiscMakers thing was ideal, though, because I didn't have to collect cash or do a pre-ordered run.

Man, I hope that's not discontinued...
