Dave Bryce
So, I noticed that there was a bunch of football threads and I figured that eventually someone would complain that this is a keyboard forum, and that football might not be appropriate subject matter. Consequently, the description of the forum now reads: Synths, pianos, software, analog, digital, modeling, virtual instruments...this is the place on the web for discussions, debates, opinions and assistance...plus the occasional pro football thread. Dave Bryce
Originally posted by pim@dancewave.nl: Are we talking about football or about that game where the players are so disabled that they have to play the ball with their hands?. Pim, Pim, Pim... Let's face it, my brother...this game that you call football is basically just another variation on this one game that has a whole bunch of variations. Think about it... Hockey - hit a ball with a stick into a goal while others try to take it away from you or block you LaCrosse - same game played up higher with different sticks Ice Hockey - same game, played on ice with a puck Soccer - same game, inflated (funny-looking) ball, really big goal, no hands Basketball - same game, smaller court, really inflated ball, really small high goal, no goalie (penalty for goaltending). American football, OTOH, is far more cerebral. Yes, that's right - cerebral - as in a thinking man's game. It's ground acquisition at it's finest. It's war without the mess. It's chess with pads. It ROCKS! I say show me someone who doesn't like American footbal, and I'll show you someone who doesn't understand American football. Soccer? Yeah, sure. Run, kick, run, kick...ho hum... Is the name football more accurate for describing soccer than it is for our sport? Perhaps. Is soccer a "better" game? Puh-lease... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

Pim
My brothers and Valkie, I will stop teasing you. American Football is a great game. Many years ago it was a whole season on Dutch television. It was the year when the SF49'ers with Joe Dimaggio won the Cup. I really liked it. Unfortunately after one season, it was all over on our TV. I am a little jealous because you guys are talking about teams and names I have never heard from! It's like talking with a bunch of Irish musicians about hurling. Nice game too, but I do not know any names or teams. I, and all other non Americans are left out in this discussion http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif I want to support the team which plays the most artistic, I mean IQ over HP. Jose Cobelas
Originally posted by Roto: Soccer players would wear helmets and padding too if they had 300 pound linemen trying to tackle them That reminds me of a World Cup match between USA and, I think, Brazil, when an American forward got his skull fractured by a Brazilian elbow, and it wasn´t even called a foul. OTOH, a 300 pound lineman would die of a heart attack in a UEFA Champions League soccer game before having any chance of getting near the ball. Best, JoseC. meccajay
<> Very true! At least with Soccer I've watched a full match during world cup, but baseball is soooooooo weird because the defense has the ball and the offense doesn't!!
