From ESPN:

"The Los Angeles Lakers will celebrate their second consecutive NBA championship with a ring and banner ceremony Oct. 30, when they open the season against Portland.

NBA commissioner David Stern has said he plans to attend Michael Jordan's first regular-season game in three years rather than the Lakers' ceremony."

Obviously, Stern feels confident he'll be able to go the Lakers THIRD consecutive ring ceremony and the start of next season, but this is his only chance to see Carrot Top's main competition play his last opening day.

Good luck MJ - "Break a leg"(or more likely, a hip)

Wow, that was almost too easy. We may win 75 games this year. Go Lakers. Co-MVP's Kobe & Shaq had 29 pts each.

Jordan had a chance to tie it with a three in his game tonight, but no dice. ESPN certainly provided a lot of coverage tonight for a guy who shot 33%. Who knows, they gave the MVP to Iverson last year, maybe ESPN can get them to give it to "Jorday" this year.

Calm down Steadyb, we know we know. . . But it was just one game, and as I said earlier Jordan will look great some nights and so-so other nights.....btw he missed a hell of a lot of buzzer beaters when he won those rings too.

The Lakers will win the next 2 years, then Philly will wise up and get a European 3 point specialist like Sacramento seems to have oodles of and so long LA!!

One game...against the lame Knicks...the Wiz should have won. If Jordan wants to help teach some talented young players and make the playoffs he should have joined the Clippers. Now that would have been interesting.

There must be many areas of your life where that kind of blind optimism is very useful to you...don't ever lose it.

But Philly has about as much chance of winning a title as Dr. J coming back and winning the MVP...in 2 years...in 3 years...in 4 years...ever.

Mecca, don't be a Laker hater, come on over to our side...and celebrate championship after championship after championship after championship...etc.

this is what you guys talk about here in the keyboard forum???

fuckin' coool!!!! :D

...curious as to what the MJ fans will say when he bows out early due to a sufficient ratio of ego boo vs. pain and humiliation...

...now if you'll excuse me, it's time to go to DF's tech forum and insult those who say they're watching bball again only because MJ came back...

If Jordan bows out early...same outcome...

If Jordan plays every game and averages 30 points a game for the season.....same outcome.

Nothing changes these simple facts-

If the Wizards only win 25 games this year then Jordan has improved the Wizards record and there year!

Barring injuries, The Lakers will 3 peat...

The Wizards will probably not make it to the playoffs...this year.

It was a great year because we got to see the greatest player in HISTORY just one more time.

No matter the outcome - The legacy of Michael Jordan will not be tarnished a bit...same as Magic.

You done went and made fun of the Jazz. The problem with the Stockton/Malone Jazz teams has always been there lack of support from the bench (any basketball fan knows that).

... and lost to the "Greatest Player of All Time".

So, you saw Kobe play tonight eh???

No question, they were a great team that ran into an unstoppable object.

Yep, that Shaq is something else. :P

Go Lakers.

OK Dan, time to come clean...you've got to admit that this failed comeback attempt by Jorday has become pathetic. Never mind that they won't make the playoffs, (I don't think you ever really believed that, did you???) they may not win 20 games. And why must TNT show all these Wizard games??? With all the TV coverage there's no denying that MJ and the Wizards suck. It's like witnessing a terrible car crash,...you just want to look away.

It's so bad that they have Jordan guarding the worst and/or slowest guys on the other teams because that's all he can almost keep up with. Kobe, Iverson, Air Canada, McGrady...please, it can only get very ugly. MJ was great at one time, during a mediocre era, against marginal teams (see Phoenix, Utah, Seattle etc.) but he would have been an excellent role player or 6th man on either the Lakers, Celtics, or Pistons back in the day.

Michael, it's time to pack up your Haynes and Nikes, pour yourself a tall glass of Gatorade, and go home.

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis? It's only been a couple of weeks. Give the man a chance. Jordan is taking a tip from the Lakers playbook: coast all year and then turn it up when it's necessary.

Jordan signed up for two seasons for a reason. The first year is (a) practice for him, and (b) an opportunity to gain some revenue so that the Wizards can buy a little talent next year. The team as a whole really DOES suck. I'd say with about a tenth of the money that LA spends on players, the Wizards could be really good. That's not counting LA's "ref fund", which ensured that they won last year's finals.

Besides, I already told you that NJ is going to take it all this year. LA isn't even going to make the finals. San Antonio is going to dig LA an early grave.

Where???...on your PlayStation???

Enjoy the Nets in Nov/Dec and then watch as they struggle to get the #8 seed in the east.

San Antoinio won't get past Dallas on Minnesota, and we already saw last year (during that humiliating 4 game sweep) that Shaq kicks the hell out of Duncan and Robinson at the same time. Let the Spurs enjoy their *championship* from the strike shortened season 3 years ago, 'cause they're not getting there ever again.

By the way Dan, can we look forward to your monthly predictions on who'll win it all (depending on who's currently in 2nd)???

November - New Jersey

December - Philly

January - Orlando

February - San Antonio

March - Sacramento

April - Milwaukee

May - Dallas

...but, as we all know, what really matters is who's in first at the end of June, which once again will be THE LAKERS!!!

You must mean the L.A Clippers, who the Nets barely hung on to beat tonight.

They may not make the finals, but they are getting better every year, and will hopefully make the playoffs this year.

The Nets (if they even make the playoffs at all) won't get out of the first round, especially if they meet the Bucks, Sixers, Magic, Raptors, or Pacers.

14-1 ...and counting.(including a crushing of Seattle tonight without Shaq, who was ejected in the 1st quarter)

Be afraid Dan, be very afraid.

Good thing New Jersey is in the Atlantic Division, it makes them seem like they're doing well.

Put 'em in the West and they're barely a 6th place team.

Hey Net's...see you in the Finals...hope you have good seats.

I recall it was Dave Bryce who once said...

"Do I need to start posting that the Lakers suck whenever they lose? Oh - let me guess...they're gonna go undefeated this season..."

so far you missed your one chance to do so this season.

Would that it weren't so, but the Lakers are so far above everyone else this year that it would take a catastrophic injury to make this season even interesting. I guess it's all about watching good young players and teams develop while the Lakers waltz home. Kobe is in full bloom, Shaq is Shaq, and did I see correctly? Is that Mitch Richmond? That's nice. Give the man a ring for all his hard and unappreciated work over the years. Maybe they can pick up Barkley, Ewing and George Gervin too...or how about Ernie Banks? That would be a sweet sentimental choice. Ted Williams too, and Dan Marino. Let's make some room on the bench for these legends.

And I think steadyb is also correct that all the good teams are in the West, maybe the 5 or 6 best in the league, which is scary 'cause none of them can even give the Lakers a fright.

That said, take it from someone who knows, Lakers fans. Somewhere down the road lurks your personal Arizona Diamondbacks. Not this year, maybe not next, but it will happen, and it'll feel like sh*t no matter how many champsionships you have.

My prediction...Clippers end up with a better record than the Nets and claim the 6th seed in the west.

Lakers lose 6-8 games total in the regular season and go on to win another Championship...the finals will be Lakers/Celtics.

Call me crazy...let's just see what happens :)
