REMEMBER YOU MUST COUNT THE AMEGA 8 2 FILTERS

THE 303 AND ARP2600

...and Andromeda also has 2 filters: 2-pole Oberheim SEM-style multimode, and 4-pole modular-Moog 900 series style lowpass.

Which is better depends much more on which your ear likes better, and which one fits your style and your music better, yes?

  • 2 weeks later...

Steadyb and Bryce have both played Andromeda at minimum :-)

The Omega 8... I've heard it's "Moog" filter, and it's a very large-sounding instrument. It does have a particular "sound" to it, as any good instrument does. Andromeda indeed has two filters per voice, as well as a ring modulator per voice, parallel and serial filter modes, suboscillators per oscillator, modulatable FM routings, modulatable level control of each tone source and filter output, etc. It has a large range of tonal possibilities.

To be fair, I'll alert you to the fact that I helped conceive and to an extent realize Andromeda. To be unbiased, I encourage you if you have a chance to hear them both, and to spend time with each. I'm sure you wouldn't be posting this question if it were an easy thing for you to do, however...

Give me the ANALOG and no one gets HURT

I've heard both. They're both really cool and interesting and different than most other stuff that's out there now (or indeed, most stuff that's ever been out there).

Why the unhappy vibe? Are you angry that you have to choose one or the other? This I understand, if it's the case. Good luck.

Four filters? Simultaneous filters per voice? I don't know of anything short of a modular that has that kind of architecture. Are you sure it's not just four filter TYPES (of which you can have one or two simultaneously)? Are some or all of these filters global, i.e. they affect all voices at once? If this is the case, keyboard tracking is not going to be very useful.
