Whyhateus Posted May 22, 2001 Share Posted May 22, 2001 What is wrong with some people,look i was trained as a classical guitarist but i'm a black american who enjoys music.What i'm trying to say is that i'm not cash money records and i don't like bently's i rather take that money and put some disadvantage kid threw college i don't have gold teeth.Valkyriesound i use a female engeenier who loves what we do i don't call women B'S or H'S i write songs for r&b singers that are signed to our indie lable.Susan got married about two months ago and i wrote a song for her wedding called "Starting Something New".When we recording it she sat in the booth with a big smile on her face saying that was grammy material but she never caught on that the song was for her I used a korg triton pro-x fully expaned for the strings a yamaha ex 5 for the keyboards and a mpc2000xl studio-plus for the drums we used a live bass player and i played guitar, she went into tears as the vocalist started singing and gave me a hug afterwards and I wrote a rap for my girl as a proposal(she accepted) called "Today and Forever More (This is how I feel)" I had it played on her favorite the radio station during her lunch break and on the way home(Five o clock traffic jam) she heard it at work and called me on my moble phone and said yes I'll marry you the girls in her office said she went crazy and started crying Ilike rap because that how I express myself I like writting songs but I can't sing but I can rap, oh before I forget Rev E so let me get this straight Mcee's have a lack of words tell that to MOS DEF, KRS ONE and host of others that will set the record. I mean, we all get the picture that you think that most people hate rap/hip-hop/r&b/etc...... but the simple fact is, many people actually like it! Also, remember..... many people hate other kinds of music too, besides rap...... for example, I HATE ALL pop........ boy-bands, girl-bands, Britney clones (or the original, for that matter), etc, etc. I also can't stand really heavy metal with people screaming and cursing all the time. That all falls under my category of "music I just can't stand". However, some rap/hip-hop/etc does not, as long as the lyrics are not obscene (you do have to admit that a lot of rappers do put obscene lyrics in their music..... not saying that other genres of music do not have them as well) Almost all rap I've heard on non-Christian radio stations have lyrics that I just don't want to listen too... so I prefer to listen to Christian music.... but I still can't stand most Christian pop music, I would much prefer to listen to some rap or rock. That said, I don't recall anyone saying anything bad about you.... I don't know, maybe they did. But don't you think that you could lay off of the "Everybody-hates-what-I-play-and-I-don't-like-it" attitude???? I mean, it seems to me that part of the whole "rap attitude" is thinking that people hate you. Rappers are talking all the time about "haters".... is that just some wierd thing y'all have to do??? People have to hate your music for you to enjoy it or something???? Hope I haven't offended you.... but I had to throw my $.02 in. P.S. I refuse to make any comments in that regard... Any issue such as that (which has MANY facets) I only discuss with people I feel are mature enough to handle it... you're not one of those people. If it's in reference to your other thread, it should be there. But I have to point out a few more things about your "argument" that confuse the hell out of me. The fact that you are charitable, don't have gold teeth, and don't like Bentleys doesn't mean anything about your music. The fact that you have a female engineer doesn't necessarily mean that your music reflects a respect for women. A badly written, run-on sentence post like the one starting this thread will hurt your cause more than it will help. You'll get farther ahead if you lose the chip off your shoulder. Hip Hop/Rap is the fastest growing genre of music out there - there's no need to try to convert the rest of the world. Some people just don't like it. There's a terrific Irish "rap" called Lisdoonvarna, a celebration of a cultural event. check that out for an interesting contrast. and don't give me that cultural bias crap. black america is not well represented by rap. if it were, its future would be stark indeed. but i know, this is not a troll thread. so excuse the ascerbic bite to my comments. Hate is not a strong enough word for how I feel!! With that said I don't hate rap as a whole. I went to a black club in the village for a open mike. One guy got up and gave one of the most intelligent raps that i've ever heard. It was the complete opposite of the mindless ranting that I hear every day on the radio. The problem is that most people associate rap with what is played on the radio and 99% of that is crap. Most of the top 40 Rap is gangster rap which focuses on the "gold teeth" and "Bentleys" that Whyhateus talked about. You rarely hear the other forms of Rap that are out there. Despite that, there are still a lot of great artists who keep it real and put out great tracks. Guru, Roots, SpearHead, J5 to name a few.
