spigotsaol.com
You're gonna have a hard time finding a decent moderator. He'll always be late. He won't be able to hear himself in the monitors. He'll skip rehearsal without notice. He'll complain about getting to the gig (even though the only piece of gear he'll have to schlep is his make up bag). And he'll make sure to catch a cold or have a huge fight with his significant other the day of the biggest gig of your life. Trust me. I've been there. More than twice. dansouth
I don't know... Singers aren't the most technical people. The mouse may be a big hurdle for some of them. My offer to help with the songwriting forum is still open (I have not heard any new news from Robert for a while - last I heard via email you were all still working on it and I was being considered to help) and I might be able to talk my wife into helping out with the singer's forum. Qualifications? Former RCA artist, killer voice, moderate amount of classical voice instruction, has taught a bit privately, computer literate... Philip OKeefe
Antares Autotune: Great singers don't really need it. Singers who only think they're great need it but would be offended if you told them. Novices who know they have intonation problems are only too happy for any help they can get. Somehow that makes them wiser than the people in the second group... chessparov
Any news on a singer's forum? The responses to my thread "improving as a singer" have been most helpful. Not to sound silly... what do you guys think about using Autotune as a training device? For example, if a song has a high note a half step beyond the present ability of a singer, that singer could practice to their "autotuned" voice as that would approximate their individual tone and give them an auditory guide to follow. Bonafide
Autotune: Is not as easy as some think. Personally I find the concept brilliant and I can sing. ANYTHING overused is a bummer, but auto tune cannot make you sound good if you are a crappy singer, You have to have relative pitch and intonation. I hear people just 'RAILING' it over and over and I sincerely see your point. If you are a good singer or even a great singer, auto tune works best. If it is used on 1 or 2 passages in the studio or to help a session get through a tough lull, that is highly acceptable. We use flange, chorus, echo, reverb, doubling, cut and paste in the same fashion. We 'fly in' choruses and we quantize drum machines. There is absolutley no difference. It has gotten out of control no doubt, but it is what it is, an Effect. Antares is a DSP, just like anything. Overused ANY effect loses its effect. Chessparov, stay away from autotune while you prctice singing, it will give you a false sense of accomplishment. Cheers.

strat0124
Man, those singer stereotypes are everywhere....we all have our "singer" stories. But it's great when you hook up with somebody that's a team player, and if they are a musician as well...BONUS! Imagine the topics in a singer's forum though: Gargling before performances? Harmonize or not to Harmonize? Choosing the right microphone? I'm being silly of course.....seriously, it's a good idea. I sing as well, specialize in singing harmony....my fave. chessparov
And let's remember to add "dealing with groupies" to possible thread topics in a singer's forum! It was a bit amusing when I was taking lessons from a (great)voice teacher who taught both "pop" and "opera". Most of the "pop" students thought the classical/opera students were snobby about their ability, and the "opera" camp, though a little more open-minded, tended to isolate themselves with classical music. If there ever is a singer's forum, the best type of moderator would be someone reasonably familiar with both pop and classical music/technique IMHO. Emile
Anyhow, I sure could use a few pointers as far as singing goes. And if I learn as much as I do here and in other forums about music recording and producing then I say it's definitely worth it. Emile
