Drewbie
I just got a Tama Rockstar Custom Fusion Kit and I was needing some suggestions on whether 1 or 2-ply heads is better on the Mahogany Basswood shells.
Jode
You could split the difference and get a thin 2-ply head, like a Remo Emperor or Attack Thin Skin 2. Siberian
It really depends on what type of sound and how much durability you are goin for. Personally, I prefer a two ply head for two reasons... I like the slightly muted and warmer tone they provide, and I am a relatively hard hitter, so thinner one-ply heads and I don't get along real well. Check out drumweb.com and read Prof Sound's drum tuning bible. Lots of good info in there about head choices and how they effect the sound of your drums.
