But we are a jamband, because of the wide variety of styles we play(those are only 5 of our songs, keep in mind). Jambands are bands that play a wide variety of styles within songs and around each song. And then, those songs are used to extend through improv. That is a direct definition of jamband. We play a variety of styles of songs, and our songs also have a wide variety of styles within them, which makes labeling hard. And our songs are brought into improv playing on the instruments when actually playing them live. That fits the description of jambands. I'm 100% positive on this. Having jazz influence in some songs does not make us a fusion band. Pat Methany Group, that's fusion. We play many styles, some with strong jazz influence, some without. And we take our songs and extend them much longer than the studio by playing through improv. I know jambands. We are a jamband. tachonene Posted September 18, 2001 Share Posted September 18, 2001 i listen to pat metheny since i was 3 years old, pat metheny is strange, i wouldnt consider part of his work as fusion. and there are thing i wouldnt consider even jazz!!!!ANYWAYS ...i was listening to jazz is dead....you consider that for example as a jamband? another thing , i dont know much about the whole jamband thing, but what i know is that the songs you have last 4, 5 minutes so when you put your cd out, what the hell cares about the lenght???!!!!and about the mixes thats exactly what fusion is about, forget that of fusion being only jazz and rock!!!look chick corea he mixes a lot of things and he still considered fusion!!!!( actally he is THE fusion hahaha). i repeat i understand that you like jambands and when you play live you may sound as a jamband but for what i heard i would label you as fusion music. and yes im kinda crazy http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gif ps: what pat stuff you have? DerekDrums Posted September 18, 2001 Author Share Posted September 18, 2001 Pat Metheny is a fusion group, I mostly listen to what my brother has, not sure what any of the CDs are called or the songs that are on them, but we play a few of them. Jazz Is Dead is also a jamband. They are actually a cover band of a jamband (Grateful Dead) but they are definitely a jamband. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the length, you don't really do jams on CDs. You can call us fusion, but we are a jamband. It's not just that we like jambands, or that we sound like one live, it's that we are a jamband. Listen to some live Phish, and then listen to a song like CUIDADO: Piso Mojado. We are a jamband, not just because of the length of songs live, but because we have so many mixed styles within songs. Fusion is mainly jazz mixed with things. We do alot of other things like reggae, and things that aren't jazz oriented. We just don't have that stuff up on the site. You're trying to judge us on what you haven't heard, we are not fusion. We are jamband. That's like saying Phish isn't a jamband, because their songs aren't very long on CD anymore, except for the songs with a lot of parts. They never jam on CD. But are they fusion?
