Moeller Check- post FAST HANDS

Fast right hand jazz ride patterns (I was taught) could be played in the thumb up position. I don't care for this technique, being primarily a rock specialist, when I double or triple I pull up with the fingers after the initial down stroke of the wrist and I can do it at a pretty good clip. BUT-

Now as you all may or may not know (or care) I'm into playing fast these days. I am finding that my moeller technique might need some work at high speeds...I'm not even sure if it is the technique I want to be using since I am finding that if I isolate one hand...my best speeds are achieved with the thumb up position! My best speeds with two hands are achieved with a moeller technique utilizing 7's/pulling three notes per hand. I don't get it. My 8's are slower than my 5's and 7's utilizing the Moeller.

Tell me I need to work on my classic moeller drop with wrist hand/2nd note pull with finger. Or is this not the fastest technique to use.

Don't say I need to watch the weck video either dj!!!!!

I'm not DJ so I'll say "Watch the Weckl Video" http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm not very fast so I don't know the answer to your question but I find I get faster results on my ride with Thumb up.

Sorry, I'm just intruding on your thread with the hope that someone who knows better will chime in.

Well. Felix ... if I were to say watch the Weckl video, it would be to see the clip of Freddie Gruber explain what the Moeller technique is all about.

As I understand it., you need to find the right fulcrum to develop this speed on this particular cymbal. Moeller is all about letting the bounce and fulcrum ... as well as the natural motion of the body.

You must work to determine what this harmonious balance is with your quest for speed!

Hope this helps.

Well that's really not my question when I have had jazz greats like chuck flores and jim chapin personally show me how...I've had tuneups from other moeller "specialists" as well...I'm not convinced it's the fastest technique. I was making some headway last night with it at the faster speeds- I'd hate to buy a video and find out I know what I'm talking about. Stay tuned.

Hmmmm, THIS is probably gonna show that I just returned to drumming after a long hiatus (16+ years), LOL. But just in case Weckl has more than one video available, which Weckl video?

And thank you in advance for not snickering loud enough for me to hear through the cable modem. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif
