Hey, what's gas prices where you are now????

Recommended Posts

The rumor has it around here they're raising gas to $5 a gallon tomorrow.... One of the networks reported the same thing. What happened to freezing gas prices? The price of a barrel of oil goes up $6 and TOMORROW a gallon of gas is $5? Don't we have a law about price gouging during a national crisis? There's going to be even more strangeness if people wake up tomorrow to find out gas has risen so much.... ------------------ New and Improved Music Soon: http://www.mp3.com/chipmcdonald

My sweetie called this morning and said it's nuts out there. In this neck of the woods (KY) it's $1.99 right now. I've heard in some neighboring communities it's pushing six bucks a gallon. This blatently taking advantage of a bad situation really pisses me off (the fed gov has stated that there are no shortages), but I'll bet UPS and Fed Ex are in panic mode.

I'm not advocating violence or anything, but if you're raising your prices 400% in this time of crisis, watch your back, watch you front, watch out. Some folks might get mighty pissed and decide to act out. Be smart.

I saw $1.98-2.28 this morning at Arco, always the cheapest place here in San Francisco. This seems to be where it has been for a few months. Other stations are usually 10 to 20 cents more. Those who are gouging in this situation should be brought up on criminal charges, after they have been lynched. -David R.

In the Cleveland area, apparently a number of stations raised their prices last night to the $4.00 area. The mayor of Cleveland issued cease and desist orders (under the authority of some law about price gouging), and told stations to roll their prices back to $2.00 or less (prices had been about 1.60). He said stations that have not agreed to his terms have been ordered to turn out their lights, and he has posted Police to block the entrances to the stations with orders to turn away customers. The news is saying that he is dealing with about 30 stations at them moment. Way to go!

I'll pay 2.00 a gallon, and no more. If they jack it up to five bucks...I'll put in 10 gallons and give the guy a twenty, and tell him if he doesn't want to get his ass punched out he won't call the cops. I may end up in jail, but, who's the crook? If I were a cop and some gas station called me about someone stealing gas when I was charging 5 bucks a gallon, I'd laugh at the asshole and tell him he had it coming.

Hey Guys, I am getting my Masters in Business and they teach us that it take 6 WEEKS for a change in oil prices or supply from OPEC to affect prices here. The reason is we keep crude oil on hand because it takes weeks to refine it to gasoline. THEREFORE if anyone is raising prices THIS early, they are breaking it off in you. No need to use a tragedy like this to line your own damn pockets. Kev

I bought gas for $1.89 at the Chevron on Ocean Ave. this morning. I'm sure by tomorrow, it'll be absolutely horrific, per usual.

Just saw $1.34 a gallon for regular unleaded. Same for about a week. I don't think that we are going to see much of this on fuel at least right away. I know from inside sources, that the authorities are looking for instances of price gouging.... Michael Oster F7 Sound and Vision http://www.f7sound.com

Santa Barbara, CA, $1.83 for 91-octane super. Unusual, because I got it at a Mobil which was across the street from a same-priced Arco. The Mobil is usually more expensive. No signs of price gouging here so far.

sacramento ca., $1.62 for regular. $4.00 a gallon is more rediculous (IMO) than paying $100 for an RCA cable. Tedster said: "I'll pay 2.00 a gallon, and no more. CNN finally did something great, they posted replies from the various oil companies to the question, "What are you doing about gas price gouging?" Two companies asked said they've issued "Cease and Desist" orders, one said "Use Restraint", and one, the only name I can remember, Conoco, said "No Comment". You can bet Conoco will no longer get a red cent of my business. Thank you, CNN!!! Prices here in Utah haven't changed at all, as of this afternoon, but then we have a surplus of gas with all the Mormon politicians

Some stations in my area are pushing $2.00 now, gas is usually about $1.30 here (it's always really cheap in this area - keeps the bomb plant workers happy, see...). There was a rumor that one local gas company was going up to $5 but changed their mind. I guess we'll see tomorrow. Seems like King George should be on tv saying something about freezing prices or stopping gouging... One thing - people are staying home, probably half the normal traffic on the streets (but people are driving 100% better!)... really bad business day at the music store, very slow. Anyone notice people have a strange look on their faces in general, it seems? Things are sort of more surreal than usual.... ------------------ New and Improved Music Soon: http://www.mp3.com/chipmcdonald

Finally went out for a bit last night. Our gas is still $1.49 so I went ahead and filled up. The "BP" attendent said it would be going up today but wouldn't let me in on how much. I'm probably with the same notion as most. If there is action in the Mid East it's understandable that prices might well go up until then it's just taking advantage of our fears and anxiety. Last winter we seen what probably averages out to at least a %75 increase in our heating bill, compared to the last winter and even more when compared to winters before that. I told the wife last night if events go as they appear they will and need to go... last years increases could appear as small rate hikes compared to what we may experience this winter. I have been preaching to friends and family about ripping out these furnaces and putting in the old coal ones that I grew up on as a kid. This country has tons of coal resources, here where I live we have tons of coal resources. Perhaps after this winter I will decide to practice what I preach. Submersible, I stand corrected. I was whizzing by on my bicycle (on Oak St.) looking at the station on Fell and read it wrong. This morning it was at 1.82 for regular, the standard San Francisco gouge pricing. -David R.
