ABGBrian
Hey easy on SPK guys. I hate spilling autobiographical beans on the forum but I am a Vegan raw-foodist and have been since I was about Karl's age. It was a lot harder to be vegetarian in high school in those days... I've been playing bass just about as long as I've been not eatin g meat. If you're thinking the bass player has to be the BEEF of the song then you're right. But just look at all the famous musicians/bassists who are vegetarians. McCartney, Geezer Butler, Prince, Sting, Chris Squire, Bootsy Collins... Kale Juice anyone??? Davo-London
Actually the best thing you can do for the environment is to give up meat ... Less cows = less methane Methane does far more damage than CO2. So don't bash the Veggies, they're the future. Phil W
David, have you been to Rodizio Rico in London. There's one in Upper Street. Some of the meat was very good but overall it was fairly mixed. All the meat you could eat though, sorry guys (I'm an ex-veggie). http://philwbass.com
DavidMPires
Phil I went to islington for that, meat was alright but too dear. I rather the Gaucho next to Regent Street cheaper and the meat is much better. rizzo9247
Snapple's new line of tea's: http://today.reuters.com/news/articleinvesting.aspx?view=PR&symbol=CSG&storyID=170717+25-Jun-2007+PRN&type=qcna Pictures: http://prn.newscom.com/cgi-bin/members/thumb/wmark?doc=PRN/prnphotos/docs/063/142&size=512&logo=logo I had Snapple's 'English Breakfast' black tea this morning and thorougly enjoyed it, although served cold. I always thought that this tea craze across the pond was a little farfetched, but I have to tell you, I am now a big fan of Earl Grey, served hot of course, with just a smidge of sugar. Paul K
OK, so the Shur-Save food market had whole beef tenderloins for $6.99 a pound. Really! Buy one or buy two? Only bought one 'cause the freezer was already full. Cut it up into four roasts, froze three, cut the fourth into steaks with a nice coffee/pepper/thyme/salt dry rub...... But here's the kicker: Wife and I made nacho's with the leftovers the next day. Beef tenderloin in nacho form. Yum. One must have balance in life. Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse.
Paul K
And yet more balance. Didn't play golf yesterday, made gumbo instead. I caught Alton Brown's gumbo "Good Eats" show, and followed his advice by baking the roux in the oven instead of on the stove. Worked like a charm; highly recommended. But if you use whole wheat flower, use a little more flower than you usually do. For some reason, file powder is not available in Ithaca (not even Wegman's!) so the frozen okra had to do. Mighty rad, none-the-less. Spell check doesn't like "roux". Is it me, or is it spell check? Peace Paul K Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse. Phil W
All of a sudden (well, apparently they've been around for a little while but I never found them); London has three notable Mexican restaurants! I'm still in shock. The Tacqueria in Westbourne Grove is authentic Mexican tacos/street food with a good Mexican chef who I got to meet recently. http://www.coolchiletaqueria.co.uk/ (Notting Hill/Queensway) I've not yet been to Mestizo but I've been tipped off that it's where the Mexicans go. It comes very highly recommended: http://www.mestizomx.com/main.html (Warren Street/Euston) There's now a bearable Burrito place 15 minutes walk from by house (which is strange) - Mucho Mas It's very Californian in style - the food reminds me of the Chipotle chain in California so not too authentic but 1000 times better than what passed for Mexican food in London before. The main problem to me seems that they don't keep the ingredients hot enough or warm the tortillas enough (they are not fresh unlike the other two restaurants) so the food is too cool. Still, it's on my doorstep. http://www.mucho-mas.co.uk/ Angel, Islington http://philwbass.com
Rocky McDougall
Phil, About 5 years ago my favorite mexican restruant had a kitchen fire and burned up their pots and pans. They rebuilt the kitchen and bought all new pots and pans. The food was not good for about six months. After the new pots were "broken in" the flavor came back. Never go to a Mexican restruant with a clean kitchen. Rocky "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb, voting on what to eat for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb, contesting the vote." Phil W
Good point! It's similar with Chinese food. My Chinese relatives in LA are very mistrustful of Chinese restaurants with A ratings for hygiene. Luckily the two former Mexican restaurants I listed in London have been in business for a few years before I found them. http://philwbass.com
