zeronyne
Please forgive the novice question. Excellent Bootsy line via Deelite from "Groove is in the Heart": http://rhee.net/LDLD/groove.gif Please forgive the poor tabbing (is that redundant?) and exclusion of time references... In the circled areas, would one barre across the fret, or would it be standard to use the ring finger on the A string and the pinkie on the D? "For instance" is not proof. Mr. Phil
i would barre http://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/blue.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/black.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/fuscia.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/grey.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/orange.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/purple.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/red.JPGhttp://www.briantimpe.com/images/LDL/dots/yellow.JPG
wraub
I always played it 4 finger, no barre. Peace, wraub I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
jeremy c
I'd use my third and fourth fingers. You're playing root fifth seventh and octave. I would nearly always play the roots and sevenths with my first finger, the fifth with my third finger and the octave with my fourth finger. Free download of my cd!. Dan South
No barre for me. It makes my knuckles hurt. The Black Knight always triumphs!
Tenstrum
What ever is the most comfortable and the easiest way for you. I'd probably bar it. Tenstrum "Paranoid? Probably. ...
I play this tune in my cover band. I play the circled areas with my ring finger and pinky. I use my index, ring, and pinky finger to play the entire line, with the exception of the hammer-on tag, where I use my middle finger for the first hammer-on. Ideally, you're just going to want to play it in whatever fashion is comfortable for you. Also, that's in the wrong key if you're wanting to play along to the recording... as recoreded by Deee-Lite, this song is in Ab.
ATM
I was thinking how I would play this on an upright. Use middle finger, lift, use middle finger. Just a thought. I'm just using it as a Friedland Metronome Exercise, but there's always room for authenticity. Now I'm glad I didn't use the open A to start it off... "For instance" is not proof. moot
Use middle finger, lift, use middle finger. - ATM of MN You forgot "First, face guitarist". I knew there was a good reason to start playing upright. "He is to music what Stevie Wonder is to photography." getz76 I have nothing nice to say so . . . Fred TBP
Work that pinkie! (it's such a lazy digit.) You'll never know when you'll need it.
Cthulhu Fhtagn
Ok, we all know I am not the final authority on finger position (had to have Jeremy tell me how to SAY the phrase correctly). Recently started learing "Sweet Emotions" by Aerosmith. (You can see the first page of this on www.SheetMusicDirect.com, I own the Bass Tab White Pages). The intro requires the 12th fret on the A,D and G in short order. I barre this because I can get away with it. But is it "technically" correct? Am I being lazy? Should I drop my string height? Grow a sixth digit? Why can't I channel Jaco? Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn
