Gonna get me some Grundy -- some live Grundy

_Sweet Willie_

Recommended Posts

Can it be?!? Yet again?!? Do they ever stop?!?

Assuming that the Mrs. Grundy website does not lie -- or at least not about this, I can go see and hear (and maybe even touch?!?! ) Mrs. Grundy at the C-Note in NYC this Friday night!

Looks like I'll need to round up my posse and head on into the city for the live music stylings of BenLoy & Co. (I can do that now, ya' know. It's only a river away.)

Yeah, baby, it's time to spread the luv!:thu:

Hey Ben, can you confirm my prescient sentiment that this just could be the greatest Grundy gig ever?

Peace.

It'll only be the greatest if you make it there, Willie.

I'll be 20 minutes north in Yonkers at band practice. Our usual quick-hit style rehearsal from 7-12.

Wraub,

-No matter what you wear, you'll always be beautiful.

-Lately Matt has been giving out demos at shows...so I'm pretty sure he will be, but I haven't heard anything yet.

-Cover should be about $5 I'm guessing...though I'll confirm that fer ya when I know.

Bump: You make it here I can hook you up w/ a bed. No joke -- a real bed and not a sleeping bag on the floor. However, you can't be allergic to dogs. I have dogs. They're groovy. You also have to be willing to sleep in Jersey. I've learned in my short time here that such an arrangement is a real barrier for some people, even if I live spitting distance from Newark Airport. Lastly, you can't consume so many adult beverages that you are forced to un-consume them -- my wife would not approve of un-consumed beverages on the floor of her new house... ;) (I know, so many rulez -- where's the fun? :P )

Ben: Cover? Do let us know when you know more. I may actually have some of my posse in attendance -- a party might break out. :D

wraub and IICBII: Could it be the makings of a l'il LDL fiesta?!?!

Peace.

--Dr. Feelgood... errrrrr, SW

PS: You play a cover of "Dr. Feelgood" and I'll give each member of the band $1 -- no lie. The luv must be spread...

But then you can make some of your money back if you play "Dr. Feelgood"... ;)

I can handle $7, as long as you can guarantee to bring the rock. :thu:

I will be also be bringing at least deux amis, and maybe one or two more. Why? Cause I'm superbad.

Peace.

Dr. Sweet Willie sez:

You play a cover of "Dr. Feelgood" and I'll give each member of the band $1 -- no lie. The luv must be spread...

--------------

I agree. This may be the best reason to attend, not that the rock juggernaut that is Grundy isn't enough unbridled intensity already.

BenLoy sez:

Wraub,

- No matter what you wear, you'll always be beautiful.

Additionally, Ben sez:

The cover is $7, my friends.

I'll buy you a beer if you show...so really that's like only $1.

----------------

You see, folks, there's the luv of which the good Dr. speaks! Thanks, Ben!

Again, with the Doctor:

I am planning on doing my part. :thu:

I'm going to try to arrive right around 9:30 if not a little before that. This will be the best Mrs. Grundy show ever -- bar none -- fo' real, yo! :D

wraub: Lookin' forward to seeing you there. Glad that you're gonna up the ante so the Grundians can each earn $2 now if they pull out some Crue. :thu:

If Grundy brings the rock, we can bring the funkelry. ;)

Will your beloved spouse be there? Mine can't make it. :(

Ben: Geddy jazz or jilted StingRay? Inquiring minds want to know (but are nonetheless still willing to be surprised).

Peace.

Looks like it'll be a sausage fest...my girlfriend can't make it either (she's practicing for an audition for the role of "Mercedes" in Carmen and rehearsing for her aria in Mozart's Requiem on Sunday! I feel lame).

Willie, to answer your question:

The jilted Stingray will remain jilted tonight...alas. The Geddy Lee jazz shall rule tonight's festivities...slung low I might add. Don't tell the fusion police. :D

Hope to see you guys there! :thu:

Gig report:

Mrs. Grundy is a most excellent band to see and hear live. I had a great time last night seeing them do their thing and they delivered the rock (although they did not rip into "Dr. Feelgood" -- I'm sure they would've if they had been able to play a longer set. ;) ).

The "stage" (I use the term loosely) is pretty tight, so their were no pyrotechnics or instrumental gymnastics (i.e., there wasn't enough headroom for Loy to hoist his bass up and play it behind his head). Nonetheless, the fellahs were energetic and delivered, and I liked the C-Note pretty well -- the staff there was very nice, even if the space was a little tight.

wraub was there and took some great photos that will provide evidence that indeed these guys are rock stars. The lead vocalist, IMO, sounded great -- something that doesn't always happen live. "Inhale" is a great tune, and he does a great job with it. Also of note, I enjoyed the drummer's playing. I think he's relatively new to the band (is this true, Ben?). Ben, of course, delivered the goods. Crit? I wish that Matt's solos were slightly louder.

A great time, and Ben did indeed purchase a chilled, bottled adult beverage for my consumption (and one for one of my friends!). A gentleman and a bassist! :thu:

Anyway, it was great to chill w/ wraub and Ben, as well as a couple of my old NYC buddies that came along. It was great to see Grundy do their thing. IICBII, did you make it?

Peace.

Unfortunately, I did not make it. This whole weekend we had an open-house at work( I sell harleys so at least it was fun)

I do plan on getting out and seeing some of you guys soon. I need to do some recon and find out where I stand in here as far as talent!

Haha JK

For all the advice and consolement I get from this place, the least I could do is make an occasional gig and show some support.

Next time,

Rick

PS and BTW - after work on Friday I was also at a wedding- in the Hamptons. It was a long, boring drive to and from the damn place. But at least the food was good. No live band though :(

Just a DJ :freak:

I really wanted to make this show too...but I couldn't escape the wedding black-hole.

Maury, Cliff, et al: I will not only verify the good Doctor's claim that Grundy brought the rock, but I will also verify the claims of photographic proof of same. To wit-

The band sounded great, Will and friends were groovy, and Ben did purchase adult beverages for us.

Truly, a class act.

There was no Crue and it still rocked.

(Ben, I'll PM you with that address.)

Thanks for the fun...

Peace,

wraub

p.s. My apologies for the quality of the pics...

I'm a lot more like I am now than I was when I got here.
