Ok...I'll play, too....

I have simplified things of late:

Rick Turner Renaissance RB4 fretted 4 string

Rick Turner Renaissance RB5 fretless 5 string

Low End True Voice Tube Preamp

Custom Red Iron Amps all-tube buffer preamp

Barge Concepts VFB2 Bypass Loop

Custom Modified Lexicon JamMan (or Gibson Echoplex EDP) for loops

Demeter RV1 Analog Spring Reverb

Demeter VTDB2 Tube Direct

Acoustic Image SA or Contra combo w/ Contra Ex extnsion cab

Bag End 2x10 or 1x12

For regular, "steady" gig as house bassist at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace I only bring the Turner basses and use their amp setup which is one of those big 1000w Carvin amps with a 4x10 + 1x15....perhaps not the worst amp in the world, but certainly in contention.

Recording setups vary with the Turner basses, Godin A5-SA fretless, Zon Sonus5, Modulus VJ or 65 Fender P Bass.

preamps and such include:

Demeter 201s; Kern Ip77; Maley VoxBox; UA LA610; Chandler Ltd. Germanium, Chandler Ltd. TGmkII(EMI); Demeter VTDB2; ADL1000;

JoeMeek SC2...but the "weapons of choice" are the Germanium and/or Demeter VTDB2.

I was not even going to bother to post after seeing some of the previous rigs, but I've decided just to do it out of the spirit of sharing. Due to my monetary status (in college) my pseudo-rig fits into the "best for the budget" motif. Here goes nothing:

-Piece of Wood-

Fender Jazz V Standard (MIM) w/ noiseless pups

-Strings-

Rotosound RS 665LDN .045-.125

-Where the sound comes from-

Line 6 LowDown 150 combo (150 watts, 5 amp models, 3-built in effects plus a compressor...awesome package)

-Thing to change the sound-

Zoom 607 Bass Multi-effects pedal

-Sound Box-

I've also got a very cumbersome Gemini PA speaker (1x15 and 3 horns). It currently does not work very well, I will look into replacing/fixing as soon as I can.

New editions will come...hopefully....

  • 2 years later...

Finally I got myself together to take some pictures of what seems to be my final rig - only thing I need now is a back-up bass. I got an old passive bass that needs some new soapbars and electronics ( too cheap for my taste - but the neck and body are awesome :D ) so I might make that active too like my läkland

well here's my gear

Läkland skyline 55-01

Markbass Little Mark II

Boss GT-10B

Barefaced Bass Big one

still haven't tamed the gt-10b as I only had it for a week. hoping to do some more knob tweaking next week - but I'm impressed so far

Well... For the past 7 years or so I've been playing my '76 Ric 4001 using a SWR2004 through a 2x15 dual showman cabinet.

Last night I traded my acoustic guitar for an Ampeg SVPPro, Carvin F600, two Bag End 15 cabs... this is a RIG!

Here is my gear:

Basses: a Yamaha BB614 and a Liucas handmade bass (liucas.com). It's all mahogany and the guy that builds this makes everything, including winding pickups and machining the bridge and I like this holistic approach. The neck is thin solid mahogany and V-shaped.

The Liucas is finished with alcohol and resin like a vintage piece of furniture, not painted. It's smooth and a pleasure to touch.

Amp, a Yamaha BBT-500H. BassPlayer seemed to like this except for its power. It is versatile, but a bit complex. I deal with complexity as a job, but like my music simple. Lots of distorted sounds they never let me dial in.

it remained in production for a few months and disappeared after I bought it.

To sound at its loudest it wants two 4 ohm cabinets.

It is not heavy but I wish I had money for a Mark Bass Mini that day. Being Italian I regret it twice.

Effects, very few and never used on stage. Sometimes I like what the compressor makes to my overall presence and sometimes I don't. The Aphex speciality is adding an extra pluck to my attack, the built in compressor of the Yamaha is quite different and pumps lows much more. Generally I use a piece of wire anyway, a Fender vintage voltage because I like the fabric and the colour: a milk and coffee that goes really well with mahogany.

Recording I found very interesting to have an badly overdriven channel to mix in lightly, as a colour.
