FCC Commissioner Jonathon Adelstein would agree with you, Craig:

"We are also seeing reports of a rising tide of product placement, and I'm concerned that there seems to be a lack of awareness of the need for disclosure under our rules in this area as well. This practice is likely to increase, given that embedding products within programming is partly a response to the fact that technology increasingly allows consumers to view television content how and when they choose."

This comment was made in a Senate Commerce Committee hearing regarding "video news releases" which have come under fire lately. (VNR = video clips that are indistinguishable from traditional news clips and are sometimes screened unedited by television stations without the identification of the original producers or sponsors, who are commonly corporations, government agencies, or non governmental organizations).

Funny you should mention that...

Number 1 of the top 2, idiotic product placement vehicles...

  1. Trump berates both teams the week after the pizza sales task for not doing adequate research on what type of pizza to offer, as Domino's data indicated cheeseburger pizza (not meatball as both teams came up with) is what America wants. In the same show they air Trump's commercial for Domino's new, cheeseburger pizza.

So why did Trump waste time going backward the next week?

Papa John's bought a 30 second commercial during the previous week's pizza task episode that exclaimed, "Why eat a pizza made by apprentices when you can call the pros at Papa John's?" Papa John's current specialty pizza? You guessed it! Meatball pizza. ;):freak::rolleyes:

BTW - #2 on Neil's ridiculous product placement list is Ford Trucks on Alias. Characters Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn chase bad guys to a multi-level parking lot. As the bad guys speed off in a sports car, Sydney examines the lot of cars available and yells, "Take the F-150!", sounding less like someone clarifying which vehicle to take and more like a model in a Ford commercial, emphasizing "F-150" because it's the product they're selling.

(Not to mention a large pickup truck is about the worst vehicle they could possibly have grabbed in the low ceiling, narrow passage way, constant turn-around environment of a parking garage.

My wife works for Ford Credit. She was thoroughly embarrassed for her company.

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman
