What should I look for when choosing a mixing console?

Recommended Posts

I'm running a mackie 32 x 8 w/ I like the 56 x 8 channels and the parametric eq but i want something with a better feel it feels kind of cheap in the touch and the sound is thin I'd like to add automation ( i know mackie makes an automated patch bay ) but I'd like to move on past mackie and go to the next level don't get me wrong mackie is the best i found for the money and i still have plans to use it in my live sound. it would be nice to have 80 channels and 10 in a sub bus I'd like 12 aux sends so i can split off and use 4 for a head phone mix. I NEED A PHASE SWITCH!!! would it be worth while to custom make each channel? oh yeah VU meters are a must!!! I could also use a built in patchbay/ side cart that makes my perfect board!!! budget isn't so much an issue just make sure it's findable, I'd like to stay under $500k thanks Mark~

where I'm at now I'm short on space but i have good gera most of it is pro but i have some room to exspand as the need arrises .. anyway I have a low rate of $325 a day plus tape to use the studio and record on 2" 24 analog, My problem is the town just keeps wanting more gear and expects me to lower my rate , ( what the f@*K? ) I hate my taowm and I'm close to closing my doors to local acts spending the $$$ to upgrade to one of the biggest studios in the northwest and just do pro recordings. what do you think? I live in a backward town where everyone feels opressed to be here how can get them to except the studio and use it? I've set it up so for the next 4 years all earnings go back into gear and up keep. so when i expand threw my neighboring business i can keep the rates low and only focus on rent and up keep ( and occational gear ) any ideas would be great!!! thanks Mark
